- John Scalzi tried to tackle the Neil Gaiman controversy but ended up making some crazy self-promo which was super tacky. Science Fiction writers and fandom get big mad because of it. Get THE STARS ENTWINED sci-fi novel here: amzn.to/4dZqj2W

From my personal experience, Scalzi would post a joke on twitter bashing men. When I went on the forums of his website, posting the same joke, but reversing the genders of the target, all of a sudden he treated me as if I had created a hate crime. What would Scalzi do? Be a hypocrite who deleted my post and called me un-nice names. Eventually telling me to F-off after banning me from his website. That's what Scalzi would do. All for me pointing out his hypocrisy.
Saw Scalzi at a few conventions. While he comes off as a car salesman, but I realize all authors today have to push, push, their produce. He is polite to the fans. He played a DJ a few times, and he is good at it. My only contact with him was to advise him to stop writing and focusing on being a DJ. I am sinsere about this. Scalzi wants to be the center of attention and being a DJ fulfills this need better than being an author.
He's got a contract. He has to keep writing.
@@suburbanbanshee His contract with Tor books reminds me of those athletics at the end of their career sign a large ten year contract. Tor is paying Scalzi more than he is worth. He then delays the first book. Scarlzi and/or his agent outsmarted Tor books, and hopefully will destroy that company.

These people are so broken and their idols are so wicked.
Gaiman is playing this smart: deny nothing, admit to nothing, and eventually the storm will pass. Gaiman's reputation will be forever tarnished, but as long as his work continues minting money for tv studios and book publishers, he'll be fine. The only wild card is if a woman or women come forward with something that can be criminally charged.
(Waits for the inevitable comment tying this scandal to Trump somehow.)
that used to be the case, not so sure anymore... often these things can be a prelude to other changes.. especially considering his "cachet" as some underworld hero is now forever gone
I agree that saying nothing is the best action.
This is Trump´s fault.
Wouldn´t want to disappoint you;)
It feels like you brushed that last sentence under the carpet but... that's a real whammy. This isn't about waiting for a social media storm to blow over *IF* there's evidence of criminal conduct and charges are brought. Will this case be more like Warren Ellis or more like Harvey Weinstein?
@@Br1cht So says the present generation and all the generations to come. If you listen to carefully during Star Wars: A New Hope you can hear Darth Vader scream 'TRUMP!' when Luke blows up the Death Star.
Scalzi lost me as a fan with Kaizu Preservation Society. Enjoyed his writing up to that point. Then he had to give in to the pronoun BS. Made the book near impoosible to follow and didn't add a damn thing to the story. Haven't even looked at his stuff since which is sad. Was hoping he would be a modern day Heinlein for me.
The Gaiman stuff smells like false accusations. The ladies claimed someone happened, but they continued to pursue some sort of relationship and NOW make claims to the Media? Really? Where have we seen this pattern before?
"Hey hey hey, it's Fat Albert."
I hope it's fake. But he is on the "left".
@@npcperson2158so is every single member of my family on my dads side, should i resent them?
Good Lord - is Scalzi a cross-dressing pervaloon? Old Man's War wasn't bad and had an interesting premise. But he dropped the ball hard after that one.
Agreed. He did this to “make a point” or something stupid back in the day
@@JonDelArroz Pretty sure it was drink taken while Mary Three Names was visiting, but everybody has to pretend that it's Totally Activist Virtuous.
Scalzi’s “don’t idolize me” post is surprisingly long for someone who supposedly doesn’t want to be idolized. That post shouldn’t be longer than 1 paragraph.
Scalzi is a narcissist and had to explain that he can totally understand why people want to idolize him, but that they shouldn't. Although they inevitably will because he's so awesome. Awesome and humble. No one is more humble than he is.
He should definitely put some shoes on
God, Scalzi's books are better as toilet papers! Great work as always, Jon! Love from India ❤
May get an STD if you do that.
RE the thumbnail: Poor dog
The really dumb thing is that there are lots of ultra-manly Regency outfits FOR MEN, and Mary Three Names should have persuaded him to get his picture taken in something with a poet shirt, elaborately tied neckcloth, tailcoat, fitted pants, shiny riding boots, and a manly hat. (Which she might have been able to rent from a costume store, if she were not capable of putting it together herself.)
That golden retriever would have liked posing next to a guy dressed like that.
But that's a bit more of a sewing project than a large Regency dress that isn't... particularly... supery-duper, to the point that she could stick a male friend into it.
He has many thoughts. You know, because he's a smart boi.
That "idolise me" post was possibly the most tone-deaf piece I've ever read from someone in the public eye. I didn't see the "Kristy" post, but it does not surprise me he followed up with it. The person who nominated Scalzi as his new moral compass would have been well-advised to read the Bible instead.
That old book where 42 boys were mauled to death for calling "baldy" a prophet?
I dunno
They are accusers, not victims. Until there is a conviction in a court of law the correct word is accusers.
I thought art was about to be about self expression and creativity, not propaganda and lack of originality?
To be fair, the only one I look up to as a living fantasy/sci-fi idol is Brandon Sanderson by virtue of his writing speed.
We all know the score.... it's to virtue-signal for brownie points. As always those who virtue-signal have the most to hide.
And the wages of woke is broke!
The *real* science fiction was, uh, the friends we made along the way?
We know how campaigns like this work. Many of the 'victims' likely didn't see themselves as victims until some activist or 'journalist' contacted them and gave them a choice: be a victim or be a target.
Not about Schalzi, but Vox Day also posted a link to someone else who claims to be Gaiman's long-time buddy. I looked at that guy's page and he just came off as this self-absorbed psycho. I don't pay much attention to the alpha/beta/gamma theory, so what stuck out for me is how there's no way someone like him could be friends with someone as successful as Gaiman, he was born to be a hanger-on. Now maybe Gaiman (and Schalzi?) are just more sane, self-controlled people with the same personality otherwise, maybe they're the exact same personality and Gaiman/Schalzi lucked out into massive success. [I would suspect the former.] Anyway, the similar personality traits are what I noticed.
LOL Ambien is Neil's "Date **** Drug" LOL. Except it works on him not his victims. Wow, now there's some literary fiction.
Yes, I have done research on the affects of drugs like Ambien and drugs in the same class. I have heard cases of significant sleep waking, sleep eating, sleep driving, sleep shopping (usually online buying) etc. There are some theories about using it to cause some amnesia on victims, never heard it being used causing the accused of causing said issues. You'd think if that was the case, he'd either not take it in that scenario with guests or have everybody lock their doors....
I loved OLD MANS WAR.
However, my heart belongs to
MONSTER HUNTER INTERNATIONAL
3600 words, holy shit lol. Lmao, even. Easy enough to bang out 3600 words if it's on your favorite subject, I guess.
When authors wants fans this is what you get. Their ego gets ahead of their connection with their fans and they lose what they had. Turttledove and others are examples of this. All of them went from just writing Sci-fi to all of a sudden they are political and social experts on everything. No, they are writers nothings more.
Haha….Something told me not to ever bother with Sandman. All my comic reading intuition as a kid payed off.
Never heard of this Scalzi person. But, I'd never heard anything about Neil Gaiman before he got himself in trouble, just heard his name mentioned a few times. If his goal is to be "the next Neil Gaiman", he should look for some better goals.
Old man's war was a long long time ago. Hard to believe someone so full of soy wrote that.
Write 1 decent book and suddenly their a paper Jesus.. 🤦♂️
Yet minimal talk about the 'olde guard's because they've been pushed out. 😖😑
Crazy stuff.
hey Scalzi's a damned good author man. read his take on little fuzzies, it's freaken hysterical.
Daaaayyumm Scalzi looks good in that dress. Lucky cow.
Wow this guy is full of himself, isn't he?
Whoa!
JDA has built up a tolerance for handling nonsense.
All that time watching Disney nonsense has helped JDA handle a wall of text.
I'm not sure I'd be able to last more than a few hundred words into this. (it might not be as bad as Disney dreck)
Is it okay to idolize Jesus? That's the only person I'd really idolize. If he just means look up to, there are plenty of good examples, none of which are him.
I always ask myself: what would Lemmy Kilmister do?
@@kirk2767 I'll allow it.
Well, he did die for your sins and crucifixion's a pretty rough way to go, so it seems like the least you could do for Him.
@@Falconlibrary Yeah, I would think so too.
Can't say for Jesus. You can look up to a good writer for his quality work. But being a good writer etc... doesn't mean he is a good person doing the right stuff.
Oh, please! Don't click the thumbs up button. I'm not the best comment here in the Comments section, no matter what my fans tell you!
I have no problem with Scalzi bieng put on a pedestal. One about 50 metres high, I think that pretty much guarantees an optimum result!
Scalzi can GFH. He’s a major reason for sci-fi’s current sorry state. What an asshöle.
First I've heard of this NG scandal. That's wild.
His books are so over rated.
No one's perfect.
People should put some thought and effort inot being good (aim for the highest objective good - religion) and not being bad.
WOW!
This is sounding like some kind of "reverse psychology" attempt.
It's like trying to take adantage of people's "knee-jerk" reaction to things and situations.
Everyone needs to be on their guard because this attempt might not bave been very good, but there will be more attempts in the future.
i was hoping this gaiman crisis would make a few of his earlier books a bit cheaper to buy - no good so far - whats the point of canceling someone if somebody else cant make a quick buck.
Sheesh, I don't think what would JDA do.
There is nothing wrong with self promotion.
It's a delicate balancing act between being direct and being subtle about it.
Too much in either direction is not good.
All that post was is just john scalzi humble bragging.
Scalzi wrote 2 books I really enjoyed, The Old Man's War (The first book only) and Red Shirts. I have no opinion of him other then those were two decent books.
Role models should never include those without proven virtue, proven self sacrifice and obvious aspirations to abide by Christian ethics. Anyone in politics, Hollywood and indigent writers automatically require extra scrutiny.
Funny, makes me wonder if he posted this after a few drinks, one looooong ramble.
Respect the art not the artist. I generally like Scalzi's writing. I'm not sure this pandering crap is enough to make me stop reading him. More likely is will be the fall off in the quality of his work. I'm finding his interdependency series a bit difficult to get through. This type of self promotion is a bit distasteful. But not really worthy of the death penalty as it were. Gaiman's behavior is a lot harder for me to stomach. Clearly I need to read more independents like Del Arroz 😁
If i want a god of scifi to worship. One, kinda oxymoron tbh. But Mary Shelley, Anne McCaffrey and Neal Asher, David Webber exist and are way better options
I'd go with Jules Verne if I were you. He doesn't even have an Instagram account.
@Falconlibrary youv put the idea of Mary Shelley having a insta in my head now and now i desperately wish it where true
@@jim-bob3093 Know who I wish had social media back in her day? Dorothy Parker and Groucho Marx. Also, Oscar Wilde. Oh, the tweets that could've been.
Power corrupts.
Stars Entwined is great! I'd recommend the leatherbound comic book at this juncture.
John scalzi did not write old mans war it was vietnam vet joe halderman
that's "The Forever War."
Good book Forever war!
Easy mix up, fren.
I liked his book 'old mans war' What are the current recommendations for good sci fi? I have not read any before 2015 so not sure if the woke weirdos had taken over then?
So did I but I read it after The Forever War and was suspicious of Scalzi, had alot of similarities
Jon, you seem to carry a host of grudges against other writers and the writing industry. I'm not commenting on the validity of same, just observing that you air them _constantly_ in your content, in what's become your own tedious version of "buzz words." Yes, I understand that you neither like nor respect John Scalzi; you've made that perfectly plain, excruciatingly plain, please-can-we-talk-about-something-else-now plain, but I still don't understand your antipathy... you probably had to be there? And no, that's not a request for additional disquisitions on the failings of Mr Scalzi; I enjoy his writing, nothing more known or needed as a reader.
What goes around comes around.
It seems to me, these "grudges" are just the coming around.
