re: asking for advice - I am not a top player, but I have been asked for advice after beating someone in tournament a few times. I will say that some people are more interested in appearing receptive to advice than to actually internalizing that advice in any meaningful way. I can imagine feeling pretty disillusioned about giving advice if I ran into that sort of person enough times.
As someone who has received advice and knows 100% that it's true, sometimes I just can't apply it. You can tell me to roll less and I'll probably still roll. You can tell me about the crazy diagonal burst range that everyone has, but I'll likely implement it rarely. There's so much to juggle while playing smash. I often go for awhile and then I'm just like "oh yeah this move I've always had does this thing that I always knew it did that could have been useful"

Little Mac can move almost as fast a sonic there’s absolutely no way you’re beating that bro in a fight when he’s breaking the sound barrier while sprinting at you
Honestly, fair thing about the advise. I hate repeating myself a couple times, so over 5 years would be annoying. I do think it helps people, though. They just have to also be learning for themself. Like, Ive been watching your content for years and within the past couple months of going to locals, Ive started to see where the advice comes in. I see that Im more focused on myself and my habits than my opponent and their habits, even if im looking at them physically more. I start to see and feel it once I start getting read and I dont know what to do. I feel like Im playing from behind cause all Im doing is trying to conceal my habits and not looking at what to do from there. That's what I think about it, but I'm also not a variety streamer that has been asked thousands of times for advice. Either way, repeating yourself sounds annoying as hell
Kinda discouraging hearing a top player I’ve looked up to say all that. I understand it’s obv not personal and just talking from experience but as someone who does try to improve and has been playing since brawl id like to think my work and time put in is helping my ability in some way. But ig if that was the case players like big D and veteran smashers would be winning more majors. All you can do is try, I don’t like thinking that natural uncontrolled factors affect the height of ability possible through work and practice
I think his argument is right in a vacuum especially when it comes to pure tech skill. However he also said this game is knowledge. Since ultimate is out there are top players collecting knowledge. If you wanna be good in any kind of thing you just need the skill to be able to extract and incorporate that knowledge. That is why imo young players can and do dominante most veterans. It’s not only age, it’s that all they learned you don’t need to discover yourself. You can copy them. I will say however that doing this will only get you far if you actually have the hands to profit from it too. But that isn’t a huge barrier if you invest enough time.
Hear me out, Marss Sonic would lowkey be kinda cracked. Marss’ ZSS is so unorthodox as it is. I feel like his Sonic would be pretty aggressive and super callout heavy. Using his signature feel-based play, Sonic would basically look like his ZSS except the moves actually link into each other
Im of the opinion that natural gaming talent is real. And if you suck you can be good but generally the chances are lower for them to be good instead of not just plateauing at some mid level. Ive always been able to just pick up games and be good. Games are easy and people just suck as a whole. Won my share of Smash tourneys back in the Brawl days when I went to them
