My 12” LA Choppers made a huge difference on my SGS. Took me a while to figure out which, but love the ride so much more now. I’m glad I went with 12” and I’m 6’4”.
Your bars look awesome on your bike
I think the 12s are the sweet spot. Just bought a new 2022 road glide special and getting those put on asap
Think you will like them!
Had 12s, your description is correct. Having said that I will go 14s on next bike. Thanks for the video.
Glad you are happy with them, I will always wonder but do like these
Great discussion. I don’t have any immediate plans to change bars but they do look good.
I would’ve preferred not to spend the money that is for sure and if your stock ones work that’s awesome
Thanks for the advise, i'm 6'3 as well with a mustang seat on my road glide. I was considering the 14 as well but now I think I'm going with the 12. Great vids thanks again!!!
My pleasure and good luck, let me know how it goes. Ride safe
My dealer put on 14” on my 2021 Road Glide Limited, love them
I bet they are great, ride safe
I'm 6'4 250lbs . I ride a 22 roadglide special. 1st pair was 14" factory 47 . My new pair and I love them are my Dominator 16". Way better with the 16" .
interesting, I probably need to sit on one with 16", thanks!
Your absolutely correct... there's a very small difference between 12's and 14's... first of all; any height and style higher and more upright than those stock bars are a major plus... I rode my partners Road Glide who had 12" Factory 47's and they felt sooooo much better than the stock bars; so I then figured that: if these 12's feel this good, I thought the 14's would be perfect for me, which they are... I could do either size, as long as they're not stock... By the way; Great Video (content). Note: The overall objective is to get those hands out of our laps from that Stock Bar Position 💯
Thanks and I really appreciate that. I love the bars as they are and they make such a big difference. Ride safe and enjoy the journey.
@@BoDean52 Hell Yeah Bo... We partake in cool (💰 pricey) hobbies, but I truly feel it's worth every dime... People told me I needed 16's or 18's due to my 6' 4" height... It looks and feels weird to me, having the bars and hands so high above the fairing. Stay safe and enjoy that beautiful bike my friend.
🏍💨💨💨
For me, having some elbow bend I very important for comfort. If the arms can’t bend, at least a hair, the bars are too tall.
great point!
i had the same dilemma between 10 and 12 on my sg, went with the 10s for more wind protection with no regrets. never been told is get impaled by the bars though 😆
I think 14s would not look right on the street glide but that’s just my opinion. Glad yours are perfect for you
My stock bars on my 21 RG worked fine. I just moved the forward as much as I could and the put the hand position just right for me anyway. Pretty road! You'll have to do a fall color ride later on. I remember the fall colors are great in Michigan from when I lived there, especially up north. Go Blue!
First of all Go Blue! I agree I had the bars moved up just like you did and they really weren’t that bad, much better than the stock position
@@BoDean52 I think they worked out okay as I put a Lepara seat that sits you back 2inches and down about an inch also. Real comfortable setup.
Great ride! That view looks like something you'd see on a puzzle box!
Appreciate that and you sir as always, ride safe
Choosing bars is never easy. It’s all about the look, the ergonomics and the quality.
You are a man of wisdom viper
Comfort is very subjective...and I know you know that!...I tossed around 10 vs 12...and went with 10's....rode them for 2 seasons....went with 12 inch this season....should have just went 12's!...great video...stay safe..ride safe!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Thanks brother and takes us time to get it right sometimes. Ride safe
I have 20" Dominator Industry Meat Hooks. Pre-wired. I previously had 16" of the same brand and style. I LOVE 'EM!!!!
Your bars are sweet!
I had 14” meat hooks on my trike, I went with black to cut down on the sun glare. I’m 6’3” and found with my one bars I had to really stretch trying to turn sharp corners. With my current meat hooks I not only went up 4” but further apart by 2”, love those!!
I wondered about how they would be on a Trike
Decided to watch some vids today. Bar height, width and pullback are super important to me. 10 inch rise seem good to me on a Dyna and 13 on my Road King. I miss Arizona. Hope all is well with you.
Thanks Greg and actually great to hear from you I hope you are well. Bigger is not always better right
@@BoDean52 I'm OK thanks. Bigger is not always better but it must fit you right.
I'm in the same situation but mine was with 14" or 16". In the end, I am stoked with the 14s but probably would have been just as happy with 16s. Good video
Thanks and stock bars seem to always be a must change.
Caught that glimpse of the Hell Saloon. Took a friend for their first visit a few weeks ago. It’s always a fun ride out to Hell. Btw still need to make it out to that dealer in Lansing.
Every now and then I try to drive through hell on video. Capitol Harley Davidson is still an awesome place and worth the trip
I always talk about Pinellas County down here being dangerous... yesterday a cage cut off 4 of our LEGION RIDERS over there... Killed 2 injured 2.... ya just never know
As HDR says... Ride Safe
Yes 👍, growing up here in Pinellas and learning to ride when there was no such thing as a riding academy. I learned very much defensive driving. But it is now at the level that almost no fun.
Scary and as much as we try to pay attention, there’s so many idiots out there
I went to the 16’s but I’m a lot taller Bob and I love ‘em. Glad you’re happy with yours 😎👍🏼
Them are some big bars my friend
Night and day difference, especially if you’re tall.. I am 6’6”, I went with 18”… love them!!!
That’s great, bars for us tall guys are so imperative
I bought the Ciro phone holder on your recommendation and it’s great. The longest ride in one day I have done was around the thumb and that was before I installed shocks and front springs on my sporty. That was awfully painful on the stock suspension. I just can’t justify the expense of bars for my sporty.
Totally glad you like the phone holder and I’m not sure if the bars matter on a sporty or not since I have not ridden one?
I have the 8” Yaffe monkey bagger bars on my 05 Ultra. Everyone at the shop was saying they’re the same as stock and told me to go with 10” or 12”. I did a lot of research on dimensions and I’m glad I went with my gut and not the crowd. I love my 8” bars. About an inch taller than stock 2-3” more forward and best of all much better wrist angle. Plus my hands stay behind the fairing for cold and rainy trips.
The gut usually wins
I got LA Choppers Twin Peaks 12" bars on mine. Love them!
Actually looked at those as well but I don’t think I could get them. There are a lot of good bars out there
5'7" I went with La choppers hammerheads and lucked out in terms of comfort on my 22 road glide special. Stock bars were extremely uncomfortable and couldn't wait to change them.
Totally understand that and I actually turned up the stock bars a little bit which helped but still not enough. LA choppers are good bars too
What height bars you go with?
Hi Bodean, I have a 13 Road Glide that I have replaced the handlebars on three separate times first time 10 Heritage bars second time 14 meat hooks and third-time 18in. Traditional Apes I felt very little wind on my hands with the 10's & the 14's but the 18's my hands are definitely in the Wind. I have a Windvest 14 in. shield & a stock seat I'm 6 ft. tall. Love the 18's. I am not getting punctured by those meat hooks..Lol 😄 personal preference
I can’t stop thinking about puncture prevention every time I ride now 😂. 18’s are big boys for sure
I put 14” drag specialty bars on my 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad, and what a difference over stock. More comfortable over long rides, and I find it easier to control. Again depends on preference, ergonomics and comfort.
Totally agree with you and I think that’s one thing some people mess when they get new bars, I believe it gives you much more control of the motorcycle especially at slow speeds. Appreciate your comment and ride safe
When picking a handlebar, consider a few key factors. First, the rear ride height of the bike affects the horizontal placement of your arms. Second, the seat height and your own height also impact this placement, and thirdly the placement of the handlebar on your bike (too far forward or too far backward). Additionally, factors like pull-back, width, and drop also play a role.
Opinions on what's right or wrong vary, but it ultimately comes down to personal preference. It's about what feels good versus what looks good to the rider, “YOU”. If you want to try a different bar height, a simple test involves making fists and placing them under the grips. Starting with a 14” handlebar, to see what it feels like with a 12" bar, touch the top of your fist to the bottom of the grips; for a taller bar, like 16", place your fist on top of the grips with the bottom of your fingers touching the grips.
Keep in mind that while some bars may feel comfortable on short rides, they might cause discomfort on longer journeys, making your shoulders and arms numb or just uncomfortable. In our view, a good seat, paired with the right handlebar, creates a winning combination for an enjoyable riding experience. The bottom line is, that any aftermarket handlebar “MAY” beat the stock “wheelbarrow” handlebar. This is only my opinion. I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Great information to consider as well, thanks for sharing!
i have had 12s and 16s no problems and that was a street glide, i just bought a road glide st and thinking of going back to 12s fxr division motorwitch
I think you’ll like them Tim. I kept thinking 14s and of course that was the time where it was hard to get any cables. I really could have one either way but I do love these. Good luck.
I like the 14 myself but I’ve got a longer torso but in my opinion the best bars are the ones that make you the most comfortable, as far as landing on those bars, I think if you’re up in the air that far that you’re going to land on them, from experience trust me you’ll have plenty of other things that are going to hurt you before those bars, ride safe mate
So could you go replay yours with your camera on just so I can see how close you get to the handlebars? just kidding, well kind of 😂
@@BoDean52 as soon as I get the new one I’ll get onto it for you 😂
I kinda look at the people saying, “you’ll get killed by the points on those bars” the same as those that say, “I know so and so and their friend was hurt on a motorcycle, so you better not ride one of those things !…
i have a 22 road glide with the 14 inch la chopper hammerhead bars with the lepera gt3 carbon seat game over.
That’s sweet!
As a famous friend of ours says "ride your own ride". I say the same. Be welly friend.
Thank you Robert
Excellent content as usual Bodean 👏 always enjoy your uploads.
Thank you sir I really appreciate that. The comments in conversation is what makes this totally worth it
Did you notice a big difference in your hand position? Stock is 10 inches and these are 12, but the Factory47 site says the bars drop down 2 inches. I have the same bike and i'm trying to decide between the 12s or 14s. My main concern is function on long rides and comfort. I'm 6'2". Thanks for the video. Well done.
Really appreciate that and I always thought the stock bars were like 9 1/2 but not much of a difference either way. We actually turned my stock bars up before I bought these and even doing that these bars are without a doubt higher. If you take a picture of me from the side my arms probably just go down just a little bit but they were so much better and I just got back from a 1500 mile trip with them. I actually don’t believe you can go wrong either way and if you can find a bike to sit on, that’s even better. Good luck in your search
@@BoDean52 Thanks for the reply
The same applies to you. You’ve never had 14s. So you don’t know what you’re missing as well. I can see if you had both and then gave the advice but you only know what you know. Anyway great content. I like your energy. Be safe.
Good point
I think of something happens that you go over the handlebars them two little points is going to be the least of your worries.
We have all seen choppers that had spikes on them I always thought that looked kind of scary. One of the most important parts of handlebars that I never hear anybody say anything about is how the ends are to keep your wrist straight. I know with me if my rest or not straight they will begin to hurt after a short time.
There is no right or wrong in handlebars they have to fit the rider.
Ride safe.
Very well said and I agree if I’m going over the handlebars that’s the least of my worries. Ride safe
Well I think you have to look also, you may be 6'3 but also you torso could be the same as someone 5'10" and just a longer inseam. I like those first bike I looked at and really wanted, but bank said no lol, was a 2014 RG with I think 12 inch meat hooks, they really felt good to me, I would not mind putting those on my RKC. On a 300 plus mile ride one day I noticed a lot of shoulder pain after about 220 miles with my factory bars, of course I have shoulder issues anyways. But I think the though it best for anyone to try and sit on bike with the bars they like and different heights to get what they want.
I think you are absolutely right, my mind changed when I sat on a bike with 12s.
Im 4'10" and have 24" ape hangers on my RGL and I love them.
Nice
I can't really imagine...:-)
👍
I'm 5'8 ride a suzuki boulevard, my arms are relatively long. To ride comfortably i have to hunch over which after an hour or two of riding my back hurts. Been looking for some ape hangers but not sure what size, watched 6 videos today to see what size is best for turning and comfortability. Then having learned both states i ride in have a 15 inch law from the lowest part of the seat, debating if i could get away with 12" or if i should stick with the law and install 8" hangers
I went back-and-forth so many times on how big to go. The key to me was being able to sit on a motorcycle at my dealership that had different sizes. Good luck!
Ironically, I did flip over my Heritage bars 22 years ago onto the windshield of the car that pulled out in front of me! Anyway, I'm six two and have a mustang seat with backrest on my Limited which puts me back an inch or so. I'm having same dilemma deciding between 3 KST 12 inch, I think, bars. Most likely will be 12-inch bison bars to be installed in Ocean City in a few weeks. Think I'll be a comfortable 68 year old?
I really do and don’t think you can go wrong either way
You should have went with F47 14s,, im 6’5. I have F47 16s. Started with F47 14s. I love my 16s but the 14s were perfect.
14” and up look kinda funny on a RG imo. On a Road King, different story.
I agree, thought about ones for my 2000 Road King and would do the 14" for sure
That rolling them stock bars back thing didn’t last long. 🤣 Seems like a good alternative when ya see the price, but after you get the new bars… 🤯
I was really hoping that the rollback would make the difference but it just wasn’t enough
When you said motorcycle bars I thought you were gonna show us some local saloons, lol. 🐓
Chickens 🐓
Ok, you sold me on the lights, the windshield, the seat, the suspension, but I draw the line at the handlebars. 😂😂😂
By the way it’s not the size of the bars that matters it’s the ability behind them 😁
I look in the mail every day for an invoice from you 😂
I can’t figure out the length of my bars. They look like 12” but when I measure they say 14”. 🤷♂️
Are they just tilted up?
No, aftermarket. I think they are 14”. At least when I measure. They just don’t look as tall to me compared to RUclips vids I see. It’s prob due to the other dementions like pull back… etc. I feel they are a little tall for me at 6’. But I have a low rise seat right now. Once I put a thicker seat I’m sure the bars will be perfect.
I'm not a fan of bars that block my view of the gauges, but then again, that's just me. As picky as I am.
Your really doesn’t block the gauges you just have to move your head to see that the turn signal is on. of course you don’t know that till the bars are already on 🤷♂️
Im 5'9 and my road glide has 12" meat hooks. I feel like it hurts my back during long rides. I had 16"s on my sportster and i loved em. Trying to find out if i should get 16s or 14s on the road glide 🤔🤔
WOW...I Just got back from 1000 mile trip and they were good. Always seemed to me that arm length and seating position matters a lot too. Good luck! Maybe find one you can sit on?
I have a 12 inch KST bar on the way for my Road King Special.2 inches over stock.I dont want tall bars.....they look stupid to me.Od imagine manouvering the bike gets more difficult the higher you go.I dont see the point on any level.
To me, it is all about comfort and what can I put on that makes me ride longer. Thanks for watching.
I dont worry about going over the bike and landing on the bars. I do worry about wearing shorts and going over the bars. If your bag gets caught on that meat hook.
Thinking you are right
12'' inch looks nice i m 6 feet tall must people advised me to go for 14'' inch but i m confuse
What is comfortable to one person doesn’t mean it’s comfortable to all. One piece of advice before doing your bars. Figure out your seat first. Then, choose bars accordingly.
Totally agree Mike
Great choice!
Appreciate that, love them
How tall are you and what make are them bars ?
I am 6‘2“ and they are factory 47 bars. In the description of the video you can click on a link that will take you right to them. I’ve been very happy.
it's not the amount of inches you're got...it's a matter of what fits comfortable for you. NUFF SAID
😳 Judi
Stock bars only for me on all the bikes I have had. I've tried apes and my shoulder starts screaming immediately and I find the bike harder to handle at slow speeds and nobody wants to look like an idiot duck walking a bike.
It’s so interesting how things work different for different people on different bikes, because that’s the cool thing about it. It’s like heel toe shifters, not for me. Glad you found what works for you, ride safe
@@BoDean52 and just say no to heel shifters
Ugg! If my stock bars were uncomfortable I’d still rather be uncomfortable than get ape hangers! BTW: What road are you on? Looks beautiful!
That is D 32 through Hell Michigan and come on you know you want those bars Craig 😂
Looking good 👍
Thank you sir
I'm wanting 12in for mine
I think you will be happy with them
I am 6’1” tall and ride a 2022 Fatbob with stock bars. Thinking should I get a 12” or 14”.
Not really familiar with the seating position on a fat Bob. So many factors in my opinion matter on the bars more than just our height, but that’s me. Easiest way for me was actually sit on a bike that has some on and decide from there. I have in the past on the bike, put my arms straight out and then have my wife measure from the base up to where my arms would be level and use that as a measurement. Good luck.
@@BoDean52 thanks mate
I’m 6’ even and put 16” on one bike, I know I would’ve been happier with 14”. Now I’m putting 10” on my other bike because that’s what my Bud has on his bike. He’s like Bo, you’ll like 12” better, but to me his bike is the most comfortable Vrod I’ve ever ridden. I’m not trying to copy his bike, just set mine up real similar.
I'm guessing the guys who said dont get the meathooks are probably older. I agree, most say go taller, but I trust you BoDean, so I'll do as you say and get the shorter bars. 😂Lol
I am wise once a year :)
🛑🛑 My wife ALWAYS tells me, when choosing bars “it’s not the height of the bars that matters, it’s the curves in the road that counts”!!
😂👍
I had so many jokes to tell during this video but I tried to be a good man 😂

Can you recommend some for a 2021 heritage classic
I have not sat on one so would be hard too. Lots of times people will have someone take a picture of them sitting on the bike from the side with arms straight out and that helps some. For me, I want to try so sit on a bike first. Maybe your dealership has one and I know even if they don't, they could probably help by sitting on a new one. Good luck!
@@BoDean52 thanks man

I think that’s a sign Flip 😂
@@BoDean52 true... I say ...Just the tip??? She says MORE ! HAHA
Yours are 12’ helps with shoulder pain?
They really do!
My local HD dealer likes to use Fat Baggers Inc. handlebars. They are a two piece bar. My HD shop is telling me $1700 for bars installed. What is the model number of your factory 47 12 inch bars? What is the diameter of your bars?
They are signature factory 47 bars and 1.5 diameter
5 foot 8. I got 12" mini apes put on. Then I bought the saddlemen couch seat. Lifted me like 3 inches. Now im debating if I want to get 14" or 16" I'm leaning towards 16. Thoughts anyone???
I had such a hard time trying to decide what size bars I wanted, and I really waited until I could sit on a bike that already had them on. Good luck deciding but I don’t think always bigger is the answer, but that’s just me.
I had 16's on my 06 Road King and just got another Road King. Going to Fat Baggers 16's 1.5 diameter. If nothing major has changed, these bars will be shoulder height and fit perfectly. I'm much shorter BTW. Have a 19 Ultra with 14" F 47's but more wide. Makes for a hard turn for me. Lol! Enjoy the ride
@@Ballz2theWall ya I ended up getting 16" then traded it in literally today lol shouldve waited

If you are over 5’11 go 14in
Generally yes but depends on seat, arms, setup, etc
A pretty lengthy song with all verses the same.🤷♂️
