Remember yall, when making a pattern (beginner or otherwise) be as SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE. Every little thing you do, no matter how insignificant, write is down and take pictures.
I think that is so cool. Most crochet pattern makers DO NOT think about my plus sized gurls. (I am not plus sized, I love the community and everyone and everything)❤ Thank you so much❤❤
This is so pretty! 😭 The sizing listed doesn't go up anywhere NEAR high enough for my bust measurement, so I'll just have to live vicariously through you bc I'm still a little too green to be comfortable adjusting things outside what's available in the pattern already. Get it, bestie!
I appreciate you being honest, I too have been tricked by Etsy reviews from people who haven’t even made the pattern. It looks so pretty but now I know it’s probably not for me lol
I am currently trying to write a pattern for my crochet dress design and watching videos like these help me figure out how to adequately explain things! Also, I love this yarn! works up so beautifully for dresses :D
Excellent review, especially as you crochet it and take note as you go. As a PAID pattern, this is really bad that this pattern seems NEVER been crocheted by testers BEFORE the person sells it. From a free pattern, its not better, but at least you didn't pay for it!!! Are you gonna send the designer yours recommandations? If yess I really hope the designer take it in a positive and constructive way. And if the designer is actually gonna répond to you and thank you...GOOD JOB!!!
I made the Fairy Coat from the same person, it wasn't well written. I'm an experienced stitcher and designer and had to make so many adjustments I was pretty irritated at the amount of money I spent on the pattern. When I tried to message her she was not helpful at all and basically I was told to figure it out. I did and my daughter in law has a gorgeous piece but it was frustrating. I bought the combo with the dress, shirt and coat all together so I won't purchase anything else from her, especially hearing you are having issues with the dress too.
I literally got to the point where the straps were done and stopped. I’m restarting with a different yarn for another reason, but I agree with all of your pattern comments to this point. I am positive I completely ignored the whole back section and made up my own way to attach and make those squares work. I love the dress, but the pattern was a little rough. I even redownloaded it at least once thinking there was an issue and I was missing pictures unintentionally.
I think I’d buy and pay more for a video tutorial of a detailed pattern like this one. Does anyone sell pattern tutorials? I’ve never seen it if so. That a very cute dress and you did an excellent job!!
Agreed! Some of the 3 star reviews shown in the video seem to be missing. I can' find them when checking for time stamps. This seller seems a bit shady
Ngl I was giggling a bit when you were tired and reading the reviews and getting really irritated but only because Ive been in that situation multiple times before with no sleep and confused about something im making ❤
I bought the same pattern for this beautiful dress a couple of years ago..unfortunately you validated everything thatI suffered in silence. Very detailed & fair review. You did an awesome job plus you’ve inspired me to give it a go again❤
it stress me out knowing that u put that much effort into the videos and the item and seeing only 43 likes... wtf... u babe deserver everything and every single like, i'm in shock.
I just bought my first pattern off of Etsy. The very MINUTE I downloaded it, Etsy is coming at me to write a review. I was thinking the same thing you just said! Why would I review a pattern that I haven't even tried yet? 🙃
You're not crazy. I bought the skirt pattern she has out and it has the same typos in it...took me forever to decipher parts of it and I've been crocheting for decades! It also turned out too short until I hung it up and let it stretch a bit, but the end result is very pretty...as long as you don't pull your hair out in frustration first!
U did it!! Seems like it’s a tough one to do so since there are so many missing parts and confusion but I am so impressed that u managed to complete it! This definitely cannot be calf length, it’s too short. But I think this length is the perfect length for a summer dress
This video was such a great watch! I would love to see more of these. Also such good info especially with paid patterns. You look stunning in the dress, its the perfect colour!
Paige, this dress looks so good on you that I decided to buy this pattern and make this dress for my 16-year-old daughter :) I usually hate patterns, but I think your video will help me figure it out. Love your channel!
Thank you so much for these reviews! You are so kind and professional in your notes and critiques and it is really helpful for the rest of us for patterns as well as adjustments we could make with other patterns in the future
Sounds like no one tested the pattern, lol. It's got 5 stars on etsy tho? Strange!! I HATE struggling through a pattern.. especially as I consider myself advanced. ALSO oh my god YES I hate people who review it but haven't made it...
Honestly, I bought this pattern shortly after watching this review lol. I’m not quite done yet, it it is so frustrating how my work wasn’t turning out as spaced out as the photos the author of the pattern had on the pattern. I’m hoping mine comes out well haha
i made her fairy queen coat as a late beginner and it wasnt too horrible, i did have to restart a few parts though. I used truboo lionbrand bamboo and it turned out nice. Little heavy
Thank you so much for this in depth review! I couldn’t see your review on the pattern itself, so if you left one it’s not showing 🥲 You did such a beautiful job! ❤
❤ Your work turned out beautiful! I totally agree that if you're gonna pay good money for a pattern, the pattern must be well written, and stitch counts included! I'm glad you stuck with it and glad l watched all the way thru. Great job with your dress and the video. Btw... what hook sizes did you end up using for each section?
Watching you get more and more frustrated with the pattern was really funny ngl but fr I feel your pain bad patterns that I PAID FOR are the bane of my existence
It seems like the pattern was never tested,or was potentially made without plus sized or “busty” people in mind, which is kinda crappy,I’m gonna try and be optimistic and assume the person who made this paid pattern just assumed it could be a one size fits all type of dress. Your review on the pattern was very well done,I want to get into crocheting clothes soon so I’m probably gonna avoid this pattern if I see it,maybe the creator of the pattern will eventually update it to be cleaner and easier to understand
I feel like that designer made the pattern and didn't get testers... this is why it's so important to get others to test a pattern before releasing it. I also hate when the patterns aren't clear and don't have enough photos, I feel you hahah
Your video and the comments helped me decide not to get it. I dont understand why folks do not add information on how to size up, or make it made to measure.
Im making this dress right now. Im not at the end but i have made a few adjustments. I like the hat patterns, but this dress pattern has been troublesome
I appreciate you crocheting that dress, but it looks like it could’ve used more of the skirt because you wanted it to be calf length. When you’re standing up straight it comes to your knees, not even below your knees. If I wanted to make this dress for one of my grandchildren I think I would have to keep trying it on her as I worked so watching you work on it helps a lot. Thank you.
I guess I’m still new to crochet but I like to think I learn fast but I’ve yet to see a pattern this bad and I’d like to say I’ve read a good amount of patterns whether I actually made the thing or not. Pretty sad because I really like the dress.
Very curious, I just got this pattern and was going to use a 2 weight yarn instead of the 1 it calls for, and you say you used a 3? Did you change which hook sizes you used to compensate for the yarn weight difference at all? Lowkey a little intimidated by this project, I'd call myself an intermediate skilled hooker, but your review is giving me pause on trying to work up my fancy yarn, lol.
Here's a tip to know whether youre working in rounds (circle) or rows (back and forth) , if a pattern says round it means crochet in a circle continuously without turning, if a pattern says row that means crochet back and forth turning your work at the end of each row. Some patterns definitely have these mixed up for sure!! The way you described this pattern it was definitely designed for someone who is NOT a beginner AT ALL.. maybe intermediate but more towards advanced, obviously!! I think that's why some things were not specified in ways you may have wanted.
Maybe the designer should have specified that it was NOT beginner friendly and definitely should have stated the types of stitches you should know in order to make the pattern maybe in the pattern description (before purchase basically as part of the product view)!!
It's an American hook measuring system personally I dislike it but it's not hard to work around just a quick Google to see which letter corresponds to which millimeter size
My biggest beef with a lot of these kinds of patterns is these "clusters" that look like they could've just been like 4dc and 2ch but are actually like overly complicated knots for no real reason
hi paige !! the dress looks so good i would never think its handmade omg also i have a video idea ! could you maybe do fnaf-inspired crochet ideas since the movie is coming out soon? i dont know if youre a big fnaf fan but im sure theres viewers who are (and if not ill just watch the video enough times so u earn good money with it shh)
I feel your pain. People who give high ranking reviews on things they haven't done or tried for themselves have the personality of bots. Wanted to add: Have you considered adding bell sleeves to it with a little gap between the sleeves and existing shoulder straps? 😉
You can use either a handheld garment steamer, the steam setting on your iron and just wave it over your finished item, or if you don't have either you can hang the garment on a hanger in your shower and turn on the hot water, close the door, and use the steam that builds up that way. Also works if you're travelling and don't have access to an iron.
As a 14 year old advanced crocheting girl, I checked out the pattern and it was confusing to me. Maybe it’s my dyslexia brain, or it’s just confusing. Definitely not beginner friendly.
so as far as being confused as to which hook you should be using there's supposed to be a section where you make a gauge swatch that tells you "with size blah hook you get x number of stiches over x number of rows for 4 inches" or something similar (if that makes sense) that way if you change yarn like you did you can pick a hook to get a similar sort of gauge or you can crochet a 4 inch square and understand how your hook and yarn will compare to the pattern. if that was confusing there's videos about gauge on youtube that explain it so much better. It seems this pattern assumes you understand a lot about crochet already.
People should really go to school instead of thinking they are gifted. The whole crochet RUclips thing is fucked up the ass. I don’t blame you for being bitter and wanting the money back too. It’s like you now worked for her. She taking notes. And it was free for her.
first of all you can’t be talking when the only thing your doing is sitting on the couch hating on someone who got themselves together and did something to make money
Designers, please get pattern testers! People are willing to do this for you.
BTW Paige, that Truboo yarn from Lion Brand is really nice; has a great drape and softness compared to Loops & Threads' Capri Tencel yarn.
Remember yall, when making a pattern (beginner or otherwise) be as SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE. Every little thing you do, no matter how insignificant, write is down and take pictures.
And this is why all my patterns are made to measure. Largest size being L is REALLY sad. 💀
I think that is so cool. Most crochet pattern makers DO NOT think about my plus sized gurls. (I am not plus sized, I love the community and everyone and everything)❤
Thank you so much❤❤
Thank u Molly like the rest of the people need to catch up
Also I have like 3 of your patterns lol
@@plushwishes aw 🥹❤️ thank you for supporting me!

How do you steam the dress? Beginner here and never seen anybody steam a crochet dress. I would like to see a video of the process.
SLAY 🎉 GIRLL I have common cold 🥶

Hi i couldn't figure out whether you used 50g skeins or 100g skeins. Does anyone know?
Lion Brand Truboo yarn is a 100g skein.
