- The tasting video on my American Lager made with rice adjunct similar to Budweiser, but this is no Bud. This is "Better Than Bud"!
Also, two different yeast strains were used; Saflager W-34/70 and Wyeast 2007 Pilsen. See which yeast strain WE think was the better one!

Love it. You're the king Larry!
I needed a refreshing lawnmower beer for the hot days coming up. Man this is the ticket! Thanks guys.
You’re welcome. I am fermenting a 10 gallon batch of this right now.
Can’t wait to try the recipe. Thanks for showing us how to do it!
Very welcome!
I've just made this recipe with flaked rice. Amazing...better than bud, the right name! Used the saflager.
The gelatine clearing didn't work for me don't know why, but doesn't change anything for the taste. Great job! thanks Larry!
Glad it turned out well for you.
I was disappointed when the kegs eventually ran dry.
It took a couple extra weeks for my beer to completely clear.
Cheers beer masters , just started tasting our beer made with some flaked rice , not a lager but the wife and I are enjoying our summer craze beer . Just 3 1/2 pounds of flaked rice with home grown cascade hops and mosaic . Yummy
Sounds tasty.
I love this chill & vibe & everything ! Also cigar is... perfect 🍺🤩
Thanks. It was a decent cigar indeed.
Budweiser Super bowl commercials are some of good ones! looks like you guys had fun brewing it and a better time taste testing.. Enjoyed the video.. I am brewing tomorrow looking forward to chilling with the JaDeD thanks Clay.. Stay Safe!
I’ll have to brew again soon. More than half gone in less than a week. 😢
Right on man! What are you brewing? Fun fact about super bowl commercials...did you know that Larry's YT channel was featured in one?
Great video dudes!
Thanks. It could have been made better if only by adding a CH inspired MBC montage.
That's a nice Cuban palate cleanser hahaha. Very cool stuff, 34/70 has always been such an amazing performer for me as well!
Cuban palette cleanser? Ha. Haven’t heard that before!
Great videos guys, would love to see the adjunct challenge brews!
Haha, too funny! The Bud Lizards are my favorite commercials but that girl's voice from the Molson Golden Ale melts me like ice on Texas road.
That was a great impromptu video Clay seemed like he was having a little too much fun! 😆 🤣
Clay had lots of fun. Ha
Clay had lots of fun.
Sir,
Love exBEERiments like this. Really shows how much flavor the yeast contributes. Also, I actually watched this on Rumble and it's a shame the description over there doesn't support links. I couldn't even copy and paste to download the recipe. Luckily I got it from here. And for some reason I wasn't subscribed here, so I did. Keep making awesome videos.
Rumble still needs needs some major UI enhancements for sure.
Good vidya Larry. If I had neighbors that close, they would have way taller fences for sure. You must be a good neighbor. Cheers Buddy.
The cost of living in a suburban area; a lack of privacy.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY Understood. I grew up at 47th & LaGrange Road.
I have made a couple of rice beers for my wife. The brown rice syrup works the best. It and some flavor, but ands a lot of color.
Good to know. Thanks!
34/70 is so versatile and you can even ferment at ale Temps without pressure and still get a crisp, clean beer!
It’s one of my favorite yeast strains.
I kept expecting you guys to cut up those peppers and toss them into the glass for some reason. Maybe because they were out with a knife near by. You have some good stuff Larry. :)
I was likely just in the middle of harvesting peppers when he showed up.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY You're the neighbor I wish I had man. Keep up the great work!
Good experiments with yeast strain Larry, Safale 34/70 Is a great yeast.
Another great Lager yeast I like to use is Mangrove Jack's M76 , is so under rated and over looked. This is my go to Lager yeast and have tried both ways, old method fermented and pressure brewed at 14psi both turned out good 🍺.
Another interesting adjunct used in Lager and cream ale's flaked Maize 🌽 , I personally prefer the taste of Malted 🌽 maize over flaked and taste is way better from experimenting👌🍺.
Gladfields Malt's produce this unique product 🍺.
I don’t think Mangrove Jack’s is available near me. So many varieties of yeast out there nowadays compared to when I started. So many great options.
Great video. I hope you will do the challenge soon :) . How did you like the spike PRV?
The PRV is cool. Only got to watch it bubble for a few days though. Beer fermented out fast.
I need to get on the rice adjunct! Quaff is such a weird word.... hasn't quite made the vocabulary yet... Cheers Larry!
I used to play Dungeons and Dragons back in the early 80’s. “Quaffing a potion” was a common phrase in that circle.
Another Killer Beer, Larry!
Thank you.
Great video guys! I want to get into pressure fermentation, eventhough I think I may wait till Anvil gets in the new Keg king Apollo 30L Snub Nose. Anyways I definitely want to try your rice beer recipe using the 34/70. The question I have is, do you pitch the yeast then add pressure from a C02 tank, if so how much psi? Or do you let the yeast get going first then add pressure? Or do you let it naturally build up pressure from yeast creating C02? Again great videos, and can't wait till the next one. ✌️
I’ve let it naturally pressurize and forcibly. I haven’t noticed any difference except that I sleep better knowing that my fermenter is set to the exact max pressure I want via pressurizing after pitching.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY , thanks Larry.
Larry I have another quick question. When you make a yeast starter for this, do you use the same amounts in your starter for pressure fermentation vs a traditional lager fermentation? Oh and your video on the Bourbon Stout is awesome. Maybe some day when I get better at brewing, I'll take on a challenge brewing a big beer like that one. It looked delicious, and would be great for a cold day like today.
I use the same as I would an ale which is about half a as much as a cold lager fermentation. The warmer temperature makes the yeast ferment faster with less yeast.
Trying a split batch with different yeasts is on my to do list. I think I need to experience first hand how much the yeast affects the beer.
I’ve done it several times in recent years. Totally worth the extra money for the second yeast to explore their flavor contributions.
I would like to try this again I did something like this a year ago. But I was having water issues so it wasn’t good
Definitely need soft water for a light beer like this one.
Good to know.
Adjunct challenge.
Ferment rice and corn together as well as by themselves.
Add Chad to the mix.
Gotta have Chad.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY Via Zoom (haha), don't want him to get a big head.
Kers lite! Jerzy and Tim reference?
Yes. Good catch!
lol geat vid. Whaaaaast Uppppp 🤪👍🍻
Waaaas uuuuuuup
I'm sure it tastes "Beery"
lol. Better come get you some. It’s going fast.
Is there anything you can drink that is worse than Bud??!? 🙃
I can think of several.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY thank god I've never been unfortunate enough to come across those then, I can't imagine anything worse than Bud!?!! 🤢
I don't think the title does you any favours as there can't possibly be anything worse that Bud!! maybe say it's like Tsingtao and that would peek my interest...😁😁
@@philcross6037 That's a good beer too. I know it's Chinese beer, but I will likely be doing a Japanese rice lager in the future. Perhaps it's similar to Tsingtao.
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY "The Tsingtao Brewery was founded by The Anglo-German Brewery Co. Ltd in 1903 in the sea port of Qingdao in North Eastern China. brewers select only the finest malt and hops and blend rice, from the paddy fields of Western China." It's ok with sticky sweet ribs and Chinese sauces but I wouldn't drink it as a rule for beer drinking.
