Sadly Recon released only one album. Shortly after it's release, one of the guitarists, George Ochoa, and the bass player, Mike Grato joined the Christian thrash metal band Deliverance. Behind Enemy Lines is one of my favorite metal albums of all time.

Great band. Great album. Bought it when it was released. Wore the cassette out. Found it on CD several years ago. As a longtime Christian metal fan, there were many cheesy bands out there. But Recon was legit. One of the tightest bands in this genre. Behind Enemy Lines is still on my rotation to this day. I would encourage anyone into this band to also check out Deliverance, Sacred Warrior, Tourniquet, and Vengeance Rising.

Yes, Shane, you SHOULD listen to the whole album. You won’t regret the time spent and your ears will thank you and the band will spank you. A classic metal masterpiece.

"Dreams" is my favorite Recon track, followed by "Take Us Away" I had this on cassette for years until I grabbed a used CD from a co-worker. I believe they got together in the past couple years to jam around. They sound as good now as they did 30+ years ago.
Recon shared personnel with Deliverance and were also contemporaries, label mates of them, Vengeance Rising, Sacred Warrior, and Bloodgood. if you liked this, would check out Armageddon "Money Mask"

Take Us Away...Dreams...are two of the best.

I know this is way late, but I had to chime in here and say that Dreams is their best song, IMO, and very relatable.

Recon was a one and done band. Most of the members went on to play in other Christian bands. George Ochoa (guitarist) went on to play with Deliverance, Mortification and Vengeance Rising. And recently formed a band called Worldview along with singer from Sacred Warrior, Rey Parra. Worldview now has listed Michael Drive (Barron Cross) as their singer. Their is a new band that George formed called M24 but this could just be Worldview with Michael Drive.
If you really like the singer Rod Arias he went on to front Shades of Crimson, Final Decree, Drangonrider and lastly New Eden.
Christian metal bands tend to come and go and the members tend to join other bands.
I personally wish they had put out more albums but from reading comments from George he wasn't happy with the style of music he was playing. And yes I know he went on to some very big thrash bands but even then he wasn't happy. He really likes progressive metal.

I have an umpteenth recorded demo cassette with the song "Dreams" on it but it was performed by a band called DeRoque. I believe a Steve DeRoque was the singer. I dug his voice, a bit of Dio in it. My neighbor here in New York, Dean went out to California to try to get into that Christian metal scene. I don't recall what band or bands he showed his skills to, but he didn't end up staying on the West Coast.

Back in the late '80s and early 90s I promoted many Christian metal bands in the high desert of California. I had the great honor of putting on a concert with Recon which was their first. I was as impressed with them as you are and they have been a band that I wish would have had more longevity.

A friend always called them a Christian version of Queensryche

      @bueymb 2 года назад +1

Yeah never thought of them as a Queensryche sound myself. To me it was more of a Fates Warning (First couple of albums) sound.

Here in 2024, still an incredible album, having George and Mike helped a bunch. But all were great musicians honestly. One album was just NOT enough.

Dreams is their best song, IMO. Takes us away is good too. They did a remake on Dreams; but IMO, it wasn't as good as the original. Recon only had the one album. That's too bad, as they were pretty good. I still listen to these old classic christian metal bands.

This Recon is a Christian power metal band from Los Angeles and Behind Enemy Lines is the only album they released and it came out it 1990. There is another band called Recon that came along years later but they’re a hardcore/metalcore band and in no way connected to this Recon. Apparently there is a rap/hip-hop artist called Recon also. This entire Behind Enemy Lines album is a banger!!!

You hear that massive reverb vocals that were popular at this time.
That album was pleasing. Sounds too much to a „brothers elefante“ production. Not sure anyone, if that was produced by them. The mastering sounds as petra at that time.
