How to Sing “What a Beautiful Name” (Hillsong)

- Here are a few tips on how to sing one of my new fav songs: “What a Beautiful Name”. I heard this song a couple months back when Hillsong’s album was released, and instantly fell in love with it! Anybody else think Brooke Fraser’s songs are awesome?! Check out this video for tips on how to sing in a contemporary style by using a mix of resonance; how to form problematic words so that your voice doesn’t fall apart; and how to create a dynamic journey… from a light, delicate start to a powerful finish!

God has blessed you not only with an amazing voice but a generous spirit and willingness to share these training videos. I am very grateful that I stumbled across these.I had no formal training but sang for many different things, theater shows, choir, weddings etc.. but didn't really understand the complexity of the gift that I had.. After probably using it incorrectly for so many years, talking as part of my profession and one show that pushed the limits, something happened to my voice which I still don't understand. It bothered me so much that I dropped out of choir and I stopped doing the one thing that I loved singing. Watching some of your training videos helped me understand things I had never known and gave me a glimmer of hope that maybe I could strengthen my vocal chords enough to at least sing for fun. Thank you!!!!
Hi Lynn! Sorry to hear that you had trouble with your voice and had to stop! Have you seen a specialist to see if there is actual damage to your vocal cords? Does it hurt or feel strained when you sing? Is the tone clear or breathy? The voice is fragile... but also very resilient... so you very well could be able to sing with the full strength you once had!
Your lesson is amazing ,and your style is easy to relate, and I find myself saying YES! that's it. You articulate,and the words you choose are spot on. You are special, thank you for teaching us all. God bless

Thank you very much for these tips. I live in west indies (french), so I sing in french language. Can I use these tips with french words ? I like Hillsong and I translate their songs by myself to sing them in my church. Gob bless you.
Absolutely -- you can use these exact same tips with french words!! The vocal technique is the same. The pharyngeal exercises are especially useful for singing in French because in the French language there is already that nasality used in certain vowels, like NON... so it fits very well! I took a few years of french in school and I wish I had kept up with it -- it's a beautiful language!
