Beautiful blade! Longer than I generally like (the longest khukuri I have are 13" blades) I usually prefer 9-11" blades myself. When you find the one though you end up watching the others gather dust! For me it was the 9.5" New Service, military dap with leather stack handle. The only thing I would change would be removing the metal spacers and go copper fittings instead of steel.
Will be exciting to see how well it cuts after your precision sharpen! I was also impressed with the improvement in performance after a strop in your last video. I made a strop for the team on my last trip but as we finish our edges with a buff wheel we thought it may not have been necessary. Apparently not! What compound are you using to load it up?
A strop will always work on a convex edge as long as the edge has not been damaged, they need to do it with some pressure though not ridiculously hard and compound (any) will work, mine is yellow but I have also used green. Leather needs to be soft side up so you can load it with the compound, it will work without but will take forever.
@@ShelleyRaskin thanks for the tips- we're also in the process of evaluating new handle carving methods as per your feedback with durability and historical accuracy in mind.
Your right about the rat tail tang. I've got a Mk1 and full tang MK2 and the Mk1 is definitely heavier in the blade. It would make a better chopper overall. How do you like the micarta handle on your Mutiny Khukuri versus the leather handle on your Pensioner Khukuri? Thanks for the nice review and info.
Was the metal end cap (opposite the bolster) a special request? I'll admit that's the one thing holding me back from ordering one. If it becomes use blade, I worry about the unprotected end.
Not a special request, the choice of metal is, the end cap goes over the tang end which extends through the handle and hold everything together. It’s a very nice blade although a tad tactical.
@@ShelleyRaskin Ah. I wonder if they made a change since you had yours made since the Mutiny online doesn't show a rear bolster. It's been what has made me hold off on ordering one. If you don't mind, could you explain what you mean by "tactical"?
They will make it the way you want if you take to the guy in charge, just email them and they can make it. The blade is long like a sirupate but with more curve and a nice fuller running the full length of the blade, it’s definitely more of a fighting blade as opposed to a utility blade, my Pensioner feel like a utility blade with fighting options being a tad wider and shorter this feels more like a fighter, would not like to dig a hole in the ground with it as the Nepalese do with theirs.
What sharpener are you using? I’m thinking of getting the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener Elite, and wanted to know if you any opinion on it?

Very interesting to see how excited you are about this new kukri.

I have not used it but it looks like good bang for your dollar, so saying I have found the more you pay the better you get.
