I would love for this to be like a yearly series of "videos I gave up on this year" because it's fascinating to see where you brain started to go before you scrapped the ideas.
To be honest Scott, the clips you showed in this video of your scrapped content was entertaining and I wanted to see more. But I also appreciate the fact that you want to make content that you are passionate about more than anything else. It's refreshing on this platform to see that. So many popular RUclipsrs just grind out videos to keep making revenue or stay on the algorithm regardless of whether or not they are that passionate about the topics they discuss.

0:17 the lighting paired with the pant stripe had me thinking Scott was out here rocking a long shirt with his pants pulled about 6 inches down his thigh. Let me just say I was nervous and confused.
Hearing Scott give the advice "giving up is okay (sometimes)" resonated really hard with me. I went down the college path & spent two years towards a degree that I really didn't enjoy, and would've put me in a career that would've quickly made me miserable. A great deal of people tried to tell me to just push through & finish what I'd started, but I eventually made the decision to walk away from school. I felt heavily judged & received a lot of criticism at the time for it, but to make a long story short, I spent quite a bit of time figuring out what I really wanted, and then was able to get on my own path towards something better. With full certainty I can say I am in a much better spot now than where I was five, three, hell even one year ago, and that's because I "gave up." Thank you for sharing such a powerful & undertold message, Scott, we can all keep struggling through this mess called life together 🤘🏻
I'm in this space right now. Got my undergrad in English without a real clue where I wanted to take things. Left a fully funded grad degree because I just wasn't in a mental head space for it, even though it would have been amazing money. I am still making my peace with doing something so far against what everyone expects. You have to know you had valid reasons to pivot like you did. Good on you for leaving when you chose to.
But what the heck did he switch it to?! After that there was something blinking and touching itself in a loop on the wall. I couldn't take my eyes off it
Your camera giving up twice in the middle of a video about giving up is poetic. And I fully agree with you, giving up is necessary sometimes and worth the mental relief.
My favorite Larry king clip is when he interviewed Danny pudi and asked about his favorite luxury like a private jet and Danny goes “Larry, I’m on ducktales”
Hey Scott, not a long time watcher but my wife was and loved you dearly. Watching this video took a while because she had it queued up for us to watch and she passed a week ago. Thanks for understanding for the late view haha. Anyways just wanted to let you know I think of her when I watch you and I really appreciate your content. Looking forward to the next one
If I had a nickel for every time that Scott posts a video with a title that scares everyone, I’d have like 4 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened like 4 times
I love that Scott kinda gave us the Screen Rant video while telling us he’s not giving us the Screen Rant video. 😂 Seriously, dude, I’m glad you made this video. I think sometimes those of us in the audience forget how much work RUclipsrs put into videos that we get completely for free. Networks and big channels have producers and writers, etc. to keep videos flowing, meanwhile there are a lot of really great quality channels like yours that have all of that weight on the creator, who maybe has an editor, and that’s it. And somehow you conveyed all of that while remaining positive and encouraging. You’re showing off those Pro Strugglr strats!
As a small content creator I needed this video. I just scrapped a huge video I was working on and off for 2 years (literally started to cry after erasing years of footage and Scripts). I scrapped it 3 days ago and felt terrible because It seemed like a great idea for a video, but I didn’t have a full vision like you were saying. After scraping it I did pivot into a new project that I enjoyed Researching, Filming, and Editing as we speak. So yes, don’t give up. Just pivot. Thanks for making this video again like I said I really needed to hear and see this video 👏🏼💯
Scott is the only person who can talk about videos (all of which sound amazing btw) that I wish I could watch for 20 minutes and I’ll watch the whole thing.
So glad the title was clickbait... On another note a very good message, I've been struggling with my art for years now and hearing you say that it's okay to leave things that you've pored time into is comforting!
My friends parents did the gerber baby fund and his entire college was paid off. He dropped out and uses the rest of the funds to pay his rent in New York. It’s different than the federal funds because he can use it for whatever he wants (like rent)
honestly the message of this video that it’s okay to try something else, and in a way, it’s okay to give up on something if it’s not working and you don’t see it working hit very close to me as an artist and animator. Sometimes you have to scrap whole pieces and frames and whatever because it’s just not working. I found this video really comforting in that sense because it always kind of feels like a big loss when i stop working on something that I poured so much energy into but that is, in the end, draining. So thanks :)
It's alright, Scott, we all struggle. I agree that stopping a project when you're not feeling it, doing others, and finishing the first one later also works wonders for me.
I died a little inside, as a fellow kid who grew up on Veggietales, 3-2-1 Penguins, and Bibleman, the outro song is an instrumental version of 'we are the pirates who don't do anything'. 😂 It took me a moment to realize why it sounded so familiar

I really appreciate that you gave us a bit of the scrapped video because I did greatly enjoy it but could understand why you’ve framed this video the way you did
I love watching all of your videos and I really think it is because I can tell you only put out videos where you're genuinely interested in a topic. As a content creator, being able to walk away from the table when the topic doesn't feel right/inspiring must be really hard when you have deadlines on the horizon. So thank you for all of your hard work!!
This video was comforting. I get creatively paralyzed so easily, and it's nice to hear about all the "failures" of people who have achieved a level of success in their work that feels out of reach for me.
A lot of artists that come to my school talk about going down the rabbit hole like this. They’ll go down one path and find something interesting that leads to another path that just happens to work out really well. It’s how the creative process works
