    I don't think there is anything to apologize for - the seller set the price he wanted for the jacket. You offered him your counter and he accepted. I'm sure he made a profit and now you will make a profit. You have a global audience with your EBay shop, he has a smaller audience at the Flea Market. It's a Win Win. That's the nature of the business. It's like buying wholesale and selling resale. Good for you on spotting it across the way and purchasing it.

      I agree - she is very gracious. I don’t know of any other resellers who notice if a seller is trying to determine their best price and instead of pushing the issue, suggests that people take time to think about the offer and she’ll come back. Most expect an answer on the spot.

  • @franelmore4376
    @franelmore4376 Год назад +11

    My parents were antique dealers. Never once did they pay the original price without trying to bargain. The seller expects it and prices their items accordingly. Even at yard sales. Just part of the business.

  • @CollaborativeDog
    @CollaborativeDog Год назад +15

    Thrifting/yard sales/flea markets are some of the few places where it actually is a "free market." The market is specific to the customers at the moment - rain/shine, crowded/not crowded, business to business, business to collector. Knowing the item and the market allows for the best deal at either end. It also allows for the buyer and seller to determine how they want to do business. This is basically capitalism at its purest and most ideal, without any exploitation.

      Nothing wrong with establishing good relationships with people you do business with. IMO...that expression is a tad cold and I am not saying so in order to criticize Karen as I believe she heard it elsewhere and believes it sounds savvy. It is not necessary to sound that indifferent with small town vendors or shopkeepers you frequent and are honestly doing business with. Sounds like a Gordon Gekko quote.

    Flea markets and yard sales are all about the haggle. Has been that way for many, many years. Sellers expect it and price their items knowing there will be a bit of bargaining. It is all part of the game!! Same with yard sales. Bargaining for better prices comes with the territory. Always, always ask for a better price unless the item is so cheap it would be an insult to offer less.

    Karen, it seems to be a mutually beneficial relationship. The seller makes a quick sale and they know you have a lot of work ahead with photographing, listing, cleaning, storing, shipping and perhaps sitting on items for awhile. You are taking the chance that the item will sell for more than you paid for which you need to make a profit to make that worthwhile. I sensed a few friendships amongst you and the vendors. 😉

These have become hard to find in any variety in the craft stores. However, when they are found at "Goodwill" or at flea markets they are usually very low priced. But, on the eBay sites they are quite expensive and to someone like me who is homebound and enjoys this hobby for gift giving, I am willing to pay the price as I am sure many others are as well. I don't know if you are interested or not. I just thought I would mention it. I thought it might be a resource for income for you. Just be sure the kit is in new condition, unopened, and sealed. Just a suggestion. Thank you for your videos. I love them.

    In a previous video, you said that the area to the left of the new laundry area will be a closet for storage, bulk items, back-stock. Closets are good for hanging items, not necessarily storage. What about a storage area that works like a large cabinet. Dry wall the sides and back wall. Install French closet doors as the front wall so that they open wide for easy access. A large shelf or 2 at the top, hang bar and 4 feet of hanging space for jackets (Pa is cold all year), then more large shelves for storage at the bottom, maybe 3. I am not explaining my idea well, but I have a closet in my laundry room that we don’t use for hanging but use for storage (mops, cleaning items, shopping bags, vacuum, etc…) and I daydream about making it a cabinet. I am so excited for you and Roger. You’re hard workers and deserve to enjoy life together. What about getting a cat?

    yeah reason I do not like to pick up used clothing to resell too many flaws . Have so many pieces I washed the item and it came out with a hole in it from a weak spot in the fabric that was not readily visible until I washed it and the weak spot gave way

    I get it everyone wants a good bargain but if you know that you can make over 1000 dollars you could have given the the guy 150 cos that makes you much too greedy and thats not a nice thing 😢

    I love your channel and your work ethic is amazing. You have a comment section for people to leave comments. We don't always agree on things but we can, when we want to, have a difference of opinion and i believe that is healthy. If we all agreed on everything and we went along with people just for the sake of it, then that would be wrong. I believe the people who were commenting about the dresses in the last video myself included were not in any way being trolls or trying to discredit you because we know what hard work you put into this and some of them are also sellers. ,so they know more than most. It was just our opinion.
    The person who is calling others crows is very disrespectful because we have a difference of opinion we are trolls and nasty people which is what you're saying. We are not going around saying that about you.
    We are here as subscribers who think what you do is admirable and you seem like a very genuine woman and that is why we watch and support your channel.
    So to the person who was calling others crows be respectful of people in future who comment, don't take the moral high ground when we don't agree with you. We are all here to support this channel and to watch and learn as we go along. This is not to you Karen. Thanks

    Amen sister! Nobody should be offended because you offer a lower price to buy things! The person can say no and 100% of the time, the sellers price is higher than what they'll take! People get offended over the darnedest things, especially when it doesn't even involve them!
