Good to know that they put this easter egg from the OG. I remember back then playing on PS2 innocently gunning at the fishes but then the controller started to vibrate and the salamander monster popped out. Scared the shit out of me.
Probably because there only one small area where you could trigger it in the original. Now there's several docks and places you visit and can trigger it. So, do you spend time/money to make sure it can happen every single place it would be appropriate? Or do you make a cutscene that catches them all and allocate that time elsewhere? Considering everything else they did in this game, I'd say their time was well spent. Also means that playing the original still has value, because you get to experience things like this, the original cheesier dialogue, and some of the areas that got cut out of the remake like the lava room in the castle.
It may not have been as sudden as the original, but also we are expecting it. If we didn't know anything about it, it probably would have scared the crap out of us anyway.
I suspect, like in the village in the RE 4 remake where someone lights the fire that kills the policeman, that the developers were smart enough to make these models invulnerable to any attack.

To be honest the original re4 del lago death was better because it didn’t kill in in cutscene, it got you in the gameplay and if you were fast enough you could escape it’s jaws.
The attack was not sudden, the old ones it just jump straight out of the water and kill you.... this one just went into cutscene mode.... im like bruhhh
And yet people still get jumpscared. Even in this comment section, someone said how much he got scared by it. It's probably because you already know it that you didn't have the same effect, where as others who are new got it.
Huh. Kinda disappointed with that death scene. I remember being freaked out in the original because it was so instant and you actually see the monster chomp down. Here, since it's a cutscene, even though it switches to first person you know for a split moment something's about to happen, and the attack is slower so you get a good look at what's about to have Leon for lunch. Still surprising but not as much imo.
It kind of looks like a random edit. Like no kidding, I at first thought the person making the video made that jumpscare themselves (I didn't even know something similar happened in the original). But from what I heard that scene played out in normal gameplay compared to such a jarring cutscene that cuts off just as soon as it begins.
Did you guys not see what happened after the first shot? Nothing! They're clearly unkillable. Go ahead to 0:31 and slow down replay to .25x and see for yourself, Leon did not miss.

I don’t own this game, so dunno if it’s possible, but what if you shoot the villagers away from the pier (or anywhere else where the monster fish/Del Lago) before they dump the cop’s body?
Ngl i liked the original death animation the fish had, may be a biased opinion or my kid brain over exaggerating the memory but the original animation of the fish nabbing you at the dock was built in the game instead of being a cutscene so it felt way scarier and more unexpected
