Seen this beauty fly, one of loudest planes on earth. Unfortunately to run the last one flying, it was relying on donations which stopped not too long ago so you can't even see this at British air shows anymore. Glad I had the chance to see it.
I heard the issue wasn't so much donations as the fact that it relied on retired RAF and other engineers to keep it flying, and they were no longer able to keep that effort going. It's not as difficult for prop planes as the technology is much simpler. Saw it on its last flight to Doncaster.
The actual reason, for the record, is that there aren't enough system redundancies. For example only one system for the hydraulics of certain flight critical systems. These days you need 2 or 3 for extended civil aviation. The Vulcans are all outside of their civilian service lifespan on those systems so can't fly legally.
My mother ran a bed/breakfast outskirts of Edinburgh, the pilot that flew the bombing mission to the Falklands in 82 .Stayed with us for a week...nice guy! Beautiful. I live and work in Leicester, UK, and saw the last flying Vulcan, no. XH558 in the air several times. One time we were building a house extension in a village called Narborough, a few miles from XH558's home at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome. We knew the Vulcan was scheduled to fly that day, but man, what a treat. We saw her rising into the air, heading almost straight toward us, and as she got closer she started to turn as she climbed. We were standing on the top lift of the scaffold around the house and had a clear view of her approach. She continued her turn, just hundreds of feet in the air, right over our heads, and climbed away into the distance. And the sound of those engines was... I wouldn't know what words to use, it really was music in flight. Such a shame that that aircraft is now only allowed to run up and down a runway a few times a year. She should have been allowed to go out in a blaze of glory, been spectacularly blown up in the air, or fuelled up and set free, pointed out o sea and flown herself out to a grave somewhere that nobody knows.
I remember going to the Sunderland Air show and I believe it was its last flight before going to the museum, it was awesome, it’s a shame that it will probably never fly again.
The Vulcan was a truly great aircraft I had the honour of working with in the early 1970s. The final approach was made under power with full airbrakes deployed. Over touchdown power was cut as necessary and a huge tail brake chute was released from the hump behind the vertical stabiliser for landing run. This could be dropped either on the runway, or when taxying clear if other a/c landing behind. If roller landing, airbrakes we retracted and power demanded as necessary for lift off. Nice video and worthy of inclusion into game. I salute you!
Had a Vulcan fly over me, it is beautiful. the V-bombers are just amazing. The Vulcan lacks any weapons of course but it did not need it, speed was the way it avoided being hit. They need to improve bomber play, honestly the biggest thing is currently with the base hits and airfield bombers can be way too op. having say 5 factories which need killing that take away enemies reload time/rearm time. so if a team loads to rearm it takes them say 100% longer. now bomber change the game, but do not instant win it. have it so with 4 bombers on a team you can not take out an airfield in one go too. As a current issue is say with B-29 or Lancaster a full 4 seto of them can win a game. but they need to make bombers useful for the team, make people want to protect them.
B-47 Stratojet yes please and B-36 too but needs really large airfields and Vulcan should have Drogue chute because it just takes too long just to came wheels stop after landing.
T's Enterprises the Russians just put cannons in everything, however the Russian planes perform best under 4000 meters I believe. Fighters are meant to fight a lot higher in real life then what they do in game. Thanks to most players not doing the right thing and flying at low altitudes, they complain when they fly low at the wrong altitudes so there air craft under performs who!e the Russian air craft perform the best. If you want to over power a Russian air craft all you have to do is get it above its recommended altitude. Into your planes recommended altitude and it is good as dead. However most players aren't bothered to take that into account and then complain when they can increase the performance of there air craft by flying at its recommended altitude, and not fly so low that there air craft under perform and get ripped by Russian planes that are performing at there best.
Sylvain Bertulfo i just want to fly a blackbird in war Thunder i just want to fly it and be astonished by its design by the technology by everything it has to offer
Several years ago I was an air cadet working at the Farnborough International Airshow and I was stood no joke less than 200feet from the runway when the Vulcan took off and I swear to you, you can feel your lungs rattling inside your rib cage it’s insane. I was told a story that apparently they were going to use the Vulcans engines for concord but the engines cause so much vibration they’d shake the fuselage apart.
Hi Phly, my Grandfather worked on the design of this beautiful aircraft at Woodford England, he was on the avionics team. I have had the pleasure of watching the Vulcan at many displays over the years. The sound of those 4 Rolls Royce Olympus engines ( the same engines that Concorde had ) is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite aircraft.
Hears phly ask if we want B36... Well... YES! 100% Yes To see 1 of those in flight in war thunder would be a beautiful sight, and dropping its bomb load would give anyone a nerdgasm
The museum you speak of at 3:05 is Hendon Royal Air Force Museum, it has the Vulcan with the bomb doors open and you really get a feel for how massive it is! I was at Farnborough Air Show in 2012 and when it did a low fly over it set off ALL the car alarms in the car park (about 5000), was rather funny!
I'm so thankful to have seen one of these in-flight, it was at Swansea Airshow a few years back, they said it was the last flight of that specific aircraft (though I'm not sure it that's true). It was incredible, it looked like it was gliding through the air, it was really graceful. A couple of times it flew along the beach with it's belly facing the crowds with it's gear down and bomb bay open, then it would turn to the ocean, throttle up and go near vertical into the clouds. It was so massive that you could see it for miles and as it came closer and closer it wouldn't stop getting bigger until it blotted out the sun as it flew overhead. If they do add the Vulcan to WarThunder they better include it's grey and khaki camo.
MEERKAT978 yes but i believe she bleeds a lot of energy with that big delta wing during the first couple of turns..then she's a sitting duck with no gunners to defend her..
My friend bought the entire lefthand side of the American aviation tree to get jets a week after he started playing. $150. I think Gaijin's logic is a bit flawed.
I used to watch these bomber take off and land in formation when I was in my late teens, it was a mesmerizing experience that I will never forget, and during the 1970's I had 1 fly at low level directly above me when it was on a practice run for an airshow display. This was and still is the 1 plane that evokes, in me, awe for flying machines.
B-52? I see many people stalling, sideslipping or otherwise crashing that heap. It's got a helluva payload- 100 1,000lb bombs(!) in the H variant as per 'Nam deployment- but she handles like a brick. anyone sitting on the tail would have a bad day at the hands of her Quad-50s.
My grandfather worked on Vulcans when he was an aircraft mechanic in the military. He specifically worked on xh558 (the last one that flew) that was when it was in service as a tanker aircraft.
I've seen the vulcan at my local air show, ive seen it fly along side spitfires and Lancasters and the sheer magnitude of this thing is crazy. The noises is terrifying. The whistle/scream you hear as it flies towards you and above you before the jet engine noise hits you, i can't imagine how badly it would sh*t the enemy up hearing the scream, looking up this thing just eclipse the sun. I'd say this is on par with the Lancaster for being the most iconic British bomber.
Nothing could catch it though. It's too fast and can go too high. Nothing could catch it or get up to its cruising altitude. It would be worse than the tu-4.
Was privileged to have sat in the Vulcan that bombed Port Stanley during the Falklands conflict while she was having an engine test at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, England. An experience I will never forget. I feel sad that so many people will only ever experience the famous Vulcan howl by watching a video rather than live as she will never fly again. A beautiful aircraft which terrified the Russians when she performed a roll at an airshow, the only bomber in history to have done so up to that time!
Oh, I'm sooooo tired of knuckleheads like you who say total gibberish without knowing... It could carry either 21 × 1,000 pounds (454 kg) bombs or different kinds of nuke so no, it'll be a much, much smaller PITA than Tumour-4.
as a kid i had the pleasure of growing up with these things flying around our local airspace, the sheer low power rumble from those engines... and on full burn it doesnt scream it roared
The thing i find funniest about the real life Vulcan is that when you are having an emergency exit, the crew (except the pilots) have to open the hatch in-front of the main gear after the gear is extended to lower the speed, and they have to leap past the gear so as not to hit the gear, all before the pilots jump due to the ejector seat.
It's a shame you never got to see a Vulcan demonstrate at airshow. Huge sense of unstoppable power and a superbly agile bird. The most memorable aspect, which often took spectators by surprise was a consequence of that massive delta wing. As she banked away from the crowd the wing would mask the engine noise very suddenly and the roar of those four Olympus engines (the same as mounted on Concorde, though without reheat, which explained why she stayed subsonic) would disappear almost completely. The crowd would do a double-take, thinking all four engines had shut down.
I have to admit, I'm torn by seeing this. On the one hand, it's absolutely GORGEOUS, and with the amount of work put into the model and the texture and...everything, it'd be criminal NOT to do something with this. On the OTHER hand...well... Actually, I take that back. In terms of conventional payload, it's actually about the same as the B-29 and Tu-4, but rather than the massive amount of defensive firepower that they rely on to deter interceptors, THIS plane simply relies on its speed to get in and get out before the interceptors are in a position to stop it, effectively making it a Canberra on crack. However, while it's fast enough to give stuff like the MiG-15 a hard time under the right circumstances, planes like the CL-13 and MiG-17 shouldn't have too much trouble running it down (unless the pilot decides to camp his AAA). With that in mind, I guess it COULD have a place in-game, provided it's at BR 9.0 or something like that.
I’ve just come back to this vid I dunno why I found this nostalgic but on another note just down the road from me there’s a Vulcan sat there in a museum absolutely amazing jet bomber
Great model. I’ve seen Vulcans flying/taxying loads of times over the past 29 years and this is pretty accurate. The only thing missing..... the howl. The noise they make at full throttle is amazing.
Seeing this on its farewell tour over the UK will be something I will never forgot, never have I seen so many people pull over to watch this plane fly over their heads, the howl 🇬🇧

Tigr It's not like MiG-19s, F-100s, F-84s, Super Mysteres, or things like that would be a bad thing.
Tigr hahah now we have them
Well, we have those now so there's no reason not to add it in.
Jokes on you we have f4s and mig21s now xaxaxaxaxaxa
Personally this is one of my favourite bombers. A fine piece of British engineering
I remember going to the Sunderland Air show and I believe it was its last flight before going to the museum, it was awesome, it’s a shame that it will probably never fly again.
"How the Vulcan defends itself is by flying fast and at high altitudes"
This is probably the single most hated thing about bombers in War Thunder.
I like how phly sponsors world of tanks while playing war thunder
MythicFrost yeah but im with you
Dont give brits the Vulcan, russia will then get one with lazer cannons all over it
T's Enterprises hey we invented it so shut it
Or they will get the mig 21
Russians just overpower everything that fall on their hands lol. Mybe they could make it flyable on the space and make it an interstellar spaceship...
However most players aren't bothered to take that into account and then complain when they can increase the performance of there air craft by flying at its recommended altitude, and not fly so low that there air craft under perform and get ripped by Russian planes that are performing at there best.
the British invented the avro vulcan so what r u talking about
is anyone else waiting for a sr-71 blackbird model in wt
Edger Van der Linden yeah! But it wont be in game 😭😭
costom battles
Edger Van der Linden blackbird is useless unless it adds the armed prototype
Sylvain Bertulfo lol it would literally be impossible to catch
Well...
YES!
100% Yes
To see 1 of those in flight in war thunder would be a beautiful sight, and dropping its bomb load would give anyone a nerdgasm
one of my favourite planes, so please add it gaijin
wangxr Yes!
PHLY trying to stall land while I’m just landing at my landing gear rip speed.
I've seen the last airworthy Vulcan Flying with engines at full throttle. It was the loudest sound I ever heard.
ADD THE VULCAN TO WAR THUNDER
did you seriously like your own comment? also why not?
Lucas Smith Go watch Mcchickenbites video as to why it should not be added.
Yes
Too modern
Calin Dahl 1956, the time period is in alignment. It's just too OP.
This thing flew all the way to bloody Falklands and back
the holy cow I wish I could have dropped a nuke on bunos aries
hey bro, whats up with the UK fleet? hehehe
Well not quite this one, that’s a Vulcan b1a which would not have made it even close. The Vulcan b2 was much bigger and that’s what did it
When I seen the words Avro, I thought it'll be our Arrow....*sigh*
Sincere Eastman more iconic, yes. Better, no
ziggy ashton you know how many Canadian planes are in War Thunder? None
Sincere Eastman Not even the CF-100 Canuck? Wow
Logi Cat that's still an American design
Sincere Eastman True, but thats the first thing that comes to mind. A truly indigenous Canadian aircraft would be nice tho
If they do add the Vulcan to WarThunder they better include it's grey and khaki camo.
god damn, I love Phy's commentry "awww, it just shits them out, thats glorious!" hahahahaha
What a big Target :) I love playing british....
Big? Yes.
Target? Good luck keeping her in your gunsights, she can out-turn most fighters of her day.
That's how she was made to survive.
MEERKAT978 yes but i believe she bleeds a lot of energy with that big delta wing during the first couple of turns..then she's a sitting duck with no gunners to defend her..
Ka-50 Black Shark too bad the plane is french
Why would you think it's French???
Captain Jack THERE IS CLEARLY A FRENCH FLAG ON THE BACK
Anyone getting recommended this 2024?
Yes
Gaijins said they will never add a jet premium. They don't want to allow players buy access to V era
My friend bought the entire lefthand side of the American aviation tree to get jets a week after he started playing. $150. I think Gaijin's logic is a bit flawed.
Now I belive you can buy a fj-4b from the sumer event on the marketplace for like $50. Its not a premium but its in the premium area.
That comment aged well
I used to watch these bomber take off and land in formation when I was in my late teens, it was a mesmerizing experience that I will never forget, and during the 1970's I had 1 fly at low level directly above me when it was on a practice run for an airshow display.
This was and still is the 1 plane that evokes, in me, awe for flying machines.
Maybe someone can model a B-2 stealth bomber
they should add the avro arrow
The mini Vulcan ,
if where adding the Vulcan we need to add the B52
Joseph Pampreen 100% agree yes b52 should be added
What is wrong with you people?
Joseph Pampreen or b-2 spirit
MEERKAT978 Easy to come in from any other angle than the rear though. B-52 would be easier to take down than a B-29
I live in England and I saw the Vulcan fly fully banked literally over my house with tho mig 17 escorts to an airshow, glorious...
Sprintcog why would a mig be escorting it?
It was a random assortment of older aircraft
My grandfather worked on Vulcans when he was an aircraft mechanic in the military. He specifically worked on xh558 (the last one that flew) that was when it was in service as a tanker aircraft.
I think yes the devs should add it to war thunder
I've seen the Vulcan in flight three times
To know just HOW BIG this plane is, the landing gear is taller than a 5-6 foot person
Bit of spec info on the real Vulcan weight is 45,000kg unloaded and with fuel and bombs weights a woping 91,000kg
THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDED NOW!!!
DO IT!!! ADD IT!! NOW!!
Nothing could catch it though. It's too fast and can go too high. Nothing could catch it or get up to its cruising altitude. It would be worse than the tu-4.
Collin Thompson It's almost like they would add similar era jets to fight it...
I heard phly is pretty good at wrestling, but i bet he can't pin me.
ButterJuraj that's actually pretty good.
he can pin you down... but he can't pin you UP ;)
Is ButterJuraj the name of the lube that your Boyfriend uses when he Pins you ?
ButterJuraj I
his ring name is superphly
2 years later. Still not here.
I thought you said it was loud
ya but 1 problem the bomb load is twice the B29, that means 1 falcon could win a match. This is unfair but I think it should be added
Oh, I'm sooooo tired of knuckleheads like you who say total gibberish without knowing...
It could carry either 21 × 1,000 pounds (454 kg) bombs or different kinds of nuke so no, it'll be a much, much smaller PITA than Tumour-4.
Sam 1248 actually the b50 version of the b29 could carry 28,000 pounds rather than 22000 pounds the Vulcan could fly.
Avro Vulcan.
B-52
Tupolev TU-95
AMX-A1
:)
Guilherme Santos AMX-A1?
of course without missiles. max speed 1156 Km/h . two 27mm cannons and hard points to 4 tons of bombs and rocket's
No B 52
it wouldnt work nor fit with the time it has too many bombs
as a kid i had the pleasure of growing up with these things flying around our local airspace, the sheer low power rumble from those engines... and on full burn it doesnt scream it roared
This plane should not be in the game, in its current state at least.
9Kpitcher hey ges what fuck youhhh.
It's fine now, though.
please no dont add this is two OP
how about you stop liking your own comment first
Too*
Too OP?! How? Sure it can carry lots of bombs and go at a quick pace but it's got no defensive weapons
But it has nuclear capabilities.
and its a HUGE target for 30mm or rockets.
You were gentle on that first take-off. I watched a Vulcan go almost straight up seconds after take-off. Awesome sounding plane.
I’ve just come back to this vid I dunno why I found this nostalgic but on another note just down the road from me there’s a Vulcan sat there in a museum absolutely amazing jet bomber
seen this fly, it's the loudest plane ever when it goes into a climb
Great model. I’ve seen Vulcans flying/taxying loads of times over the past 29 years and this is pretty accurate. The only thing missing..... the howl. The noise they make at full throttle is amazing.
Seeing this on its farewell tour over the UK will be something I will never forgot, never have I seen so many people pull over to watch this plane fly over their heads, the howl 🇬🇧
"And then we will cut the power and let her touch down herself" ! xD
14:11
Vulcan, B52 and the B36 would be an amazing addition to the game.
I remember seeing this at IWM Duxford as well. That was such a great museum! I felt like a little kid again walking around all the displays
After 2 years
Gaijin:
Delete the plane. Delete!
Wait are they not going to add it?
@@jumpiko4553 2 years ago added its event plane bro
Hella shame it don’t howl like it does in real life ! That’s something special
These were the good old days, when volumetric shells weren’t a thing...good times ‘-‘
Love this aircraft. Saw one fly past me whilst in the hills/mountains of Wales. It actually flew past BELOW where I was standing (performing Nap of the Earth training). Just magnificent.
