The world seems to be divided into people who know Mark Lanegan, and the unenlightened. His catalogue of work, apart from his own, with other more well known artists continues to increase too, which doesn't really surprise me with his great vocal talent. Before the show while I was outside waiting he came out with Shelley Brien and talked for around 10 to 15 minutes and happily answered questions that I asked about life on the road, his health, and why he was using a stick to walk (he related how their dog had tripped him up). I wasn't really aware who Shelley was at the time (who you can see singing in the video) but she joined in the chat and was very sweet as she didn't seem to mind my ignorance of her part in the band, or Mark's life. 'Hit the City' is one of my favourite tracks so this is just my attempt to bring that live experience to people that want to share it. I'm not a professional cameraman and it could be better obviously, but it's here for what it's worth.
How very… serendipitous that this was uploaded years ago and you wrote this a few days ago. I’m in something of a Lanegan craze right now. Newly enlightened. Heard him with queens. Checked out the trees. Got the book. Going through his solo stuff. The guy’s amazing.
Wow! Can't believe he's suddenly gone. I know we all have to but what can I say. Thank you, Mark. You left a massive impression on me and so many others. RIP.
I remember finding this song when I was 18 and pretty quickly got super into the Bubblegum album (pulled me down the rabbit hole through the Screaming Trees as well). Having been a huge fan of QOTSA since I was 14, getting into Mark was a logical progression since I already loved his singing on In the Fade (somewhat unrelated but related I also had all the Kyuss and Mondo Generator albums when I was a kid too, I didn't know any other kids my age who were listening to any of that stuff). Really just that whole corner of music was so raw and had a unique energy about it. Been listening to this track for over a decade now and it just reminds me how much love I have for big city life 'cause that's the vibe this song gives me. Thanks for the upload!
The dark descends through the promised land Down kingdom come and the acid ban I'm bad alone, burned inside out Nothing to kill it I hit the city In Marianne I dug the hole And watched her trip on my heart of stone And in the end all that crawled, was my skin I couldn't kill it I hit the city I hit the city Ghost arrives at its bitter end To the promised land and the dark descents I'm bad alone, burned inside out Nothing to kill it I hit the city I hit the city I hit the city I hit the city I hit the city 1, 2, 3, 4 I hit the city
Thanks. He was a very kind and generous soul and that came through in the very brief time we spent chatting. I don't think I'll be alone in thinking that.
Shelley Brien. I was lucky enough to talk to them both before the show while I was outside waiting to get in. Probably talked to them for about 10 to 15 minutes and they were really generous with their time. I believe they are married now.

blah blah too many words
Man his voice sounds great here
More people should watch this.
Rip to a beautiful man
All the best Mark.

Nothing to kill it
I hit the city

I hit the city
Ghost arrives at its bitter end

Nothing to kill it
I hit the city
I hit the city
I hit the city
I hit the city
I hit the city
1, 2, 3, 4
I hit the city
