All critics on The Adjustment Bureau: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/adjus...
Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? A man glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York the only woman he's ever loved. On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt) - a woman like none he's ever known. But just as he realizes he's falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart. David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself - the men of The Adjustment Bureau - who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path...or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her. Written by Universal Pictures

Lol, he had to say 'vastly VASTLY superior Inception'. Yeah, this movie is nowhere near that level, but it is a good movie in its own right. I usually hate love stories but this one works because of Emily Blunt's exceptional performance. 8/10
I thought this movie was very entertaining. The inconsistencies weren't too bad except for the water being a weakness (I thought that was ridiculous) But I like the fact that the "Chairman" gave the angels weaknesses. They can't have complete power because they aren't perfect, they have minds more like humans than like gods. They couldn't freeze time on him because they didn't have authorization like the first time. I think all of the rules are what made this film so easy to connect with.
I kinda like when he said "The Department of Cockblockery" I couldn't help but let out a lil chuckle when he said that.
@kathicII What does the background have to do with sitting in a chair?
3 things.
1) Dark City is great and I'm glad it received a shout out.
2) This was pretty damn funny
3) Jonathan Kim is a great reviewer
Holy shit. J. Kim needs to be doing all the What the flick videos...by himself. He's damn excellent
Seriously the best reviewer out there. Please have him do all the reviews for this channel.

Jonathan Kim - you rock, Sir!
Dude, you were just talking about how bureaucratic they were, do you really think they can just freeze whoever the fuck they want? They even said that only Damon's office was frozen at the time. And Magic hats? Yeah. Fedoras are fucking cool man, I thought that was a nice touch. But uh... the water thing... yeah... -- I thought the same thing. Also the movie turned out to be a gambit, so some of your gripes may be unjustified, but it could be seen as silly, in a 'all a dream' type of way.
I love these short reviews he's got going. Just the right amount of humor, keep doing them plz.
The best thing about this movie was their chemistry, they looked really good on screen together but the movie started to do down hill just past halfway though and then totally bombed at the end.
Movie got a 7/10 from me. I think the water/rain stopped them from freezing time, putting up invisible barriers. I think the doors were gateways, but the hats were "passes" or keys.
I want the old WTF back.
Short and sweet, Kim is by far my favourite reviewer on WTF.
This seems like a long Twilight zone episode where they just don't bother explaining anything
You totally hit the nail on the head with this one, man. Great review and hilarious to boot.
The movie looked so freaking cool but it really was a disappointment. The hat thing was silly and it really wasn't thought-provoking at all. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, like you said, were very good though.
This guy actually made me laugh out loud in front of my boss. I didn't see him behind me. I have a disciplinary meeting on Friday because I got caught on youtube. Well worth the laugh though lol .
@BarackMcBush I'm guessing it's because he doesn't think it deserves a 5.5, so he gives it slightly lower. Ben did something like that on wtflick at one point, so maybe it's the same logic here.
5.2 or 5.3 on the other hand would be kind of ridiculous to me.
I loved this review by the way. Good work Johnathan!
@Richardgwm Nope, Cenk got a gig on MSNBC and he has been busy doing that instead, he hasn't been in CA to work on TYT or whattheflick
I'm going to yell "FROSTY THE SNOWMAN?!" in the theatres für die lulz
Someone needs to make Good Omens.
"Meaning their not so much the Adjustment Bureau, as the Department of Cock Blockery."
Quote of the month.
Great review, I think I'll just read the book.
is that rating out of 10?
Please review more movies for WTF, Jonathan. That was *hilarious*.
Great review Mr Kim...you're like my movie twin.
everybodies life so they couldnt just freeze half of new york city just so he couldnt get across town because that would effect other peoples lives. People need to lighten up on this movie it was very entertaining and had a great message. In my opinion, dont listen to other people and see the movie for yourselves guys
Thank you Jonathan.
this guy is the best reviewer on youtube. scratch that, best reviewer ever! DON DON DON
Good review Jonathan. Hilarious - actually laughed audibly a few times.
This is one of these "this movie could have been awesome, if not for X and Y"-movies.
I was looking forward to this movie. Too bad it's not worth the ticket price. At least I won't be wasting my time and money. Thanks for the review.
johnny keeps its real man. thumbs up for this guy!
lol, john kim is always so critical!, probably why hes an awesome critic
Magic hats - ROFL
I really wanted "The Adjustment Bureau" to be amazing, but I was SERIOUSLY let down... = (
Spot on review!!!
j.kim tell's it like it is! #winning
@accomplishedjoe94 I was let down by this movie because the trailer made it seem like an emotionally engaging drama thriller... I saw the movie with high hopes, and I was extremely let down... I was not emotionally engaged, the movie lacked style, and the most intense moment, both emotionally and action-wise, happened when a car almost hit one of the characters (in the middle of the film). It was silly, and I wanted it to be beautiful. It ended up being un-inspired and boring.
ok time to vent...first off, for all the people complaining that the trailer made this movie seem like a high speed action movie...at what part of the trailer did you see a gun shot or explosion? Secondly, of course they're gonna let him get the girl in the end. There is enough sadness on earth yet whenever a movie has a hppy ending everyone loses they mind. And well Jonathan, the reason why they couldnt stop him from running down the street is because they have to create the fewest ripples in
Matt Damon is in it . . . nuff said, I'm there.
this movie was definitely the greatest for a bit
@indusdolphin "Hardcore atheist" doesn't make much sense though, as it would be the same as "soft atheist". Being an atheist means having no god. If you don't have something, it doesn't matter how much you are not having it -- you simply don't have it.
dear lord why is Jonathan NOT on TYT? put him on TYT! put some of that MSNBC money to good use, or some of that "underground gamer" Gamefly money! Hire him for TYT, he is so great he needs more exposure! He'd actually make TYT watchable w/o Cenk there, omg, Ben and those other 2 cronies CANNOT carry TYT, but with Jonathan...
anything is possible
great movie
I'm a fan of PKD. I've read a lot of PKD's stories, but I haven't read the story this movie is based on. Knowing PKD's views on religion, I suspect the Chairman is the Gnostic Archon rather than the Christian God. Some movies based on PKD stories are awesome & some less so. I can't speak for this PKD adaptation, but I do know that PKD is an acquired taste.
considering inception was a MASSIVE let down that require no thought to keep up with and turned out to be quite predictable with almost no mystery whatsoever... and you say this movie is worse????? i somehow doubt it
Not only do i TOTALLY disagree with this review but this film should have been reviewd by the entire panel, you guys reviewed red riding hood instead of this?, are you guys HIGH, lmao
Good review, but give us a spoiler warning before you tell us what happens in the final scene.
Kim is my hero
the matrix shouldnt be compared to inception matrix didnt blow my mind at all
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, does better movie reviews than JK.
I like that this guy is mostly boring and bland and has little expression so when he says something mildly funny it really has a punch
It looks like a meh movie to me, the kind you'd rent and watch at home with some popcorn at your side. But with the details (or non-details) Kim mentions sounds like it would not be a good film to even do that with. Sounds like a typical JJ Abrams film... A good sounding plot but in reality plot holes the size of China...
ending really just sucks
Why is it that Jonathan Kim only reviews movies that he's going to pan? Lately it seems like whenever it is a panel discussion, it is the other three people and they somewhat like the movie (it is usually given around 6 or a 7), but if the movie is crap, they have Jonathan do it alone in front of a blue screen with no discussion or interaction with other people. WTFlick videos with Jonathan's name attached might as well be titled "[movie title] sucks" if that is the role he's been relegated to.
SPOILER ALERT half way through the review..
@BarackMcBush don't worry about it
lmao an ipad app
A turd-rate film walked out two-thirds of the way into the film. Kim's right Inception is to this what the Taj Mahal is to a slum building.
A turd-rate film walked out two-thirds of the way into the film.
I think he allowed his hardcore atheism cloud his judgement on this one. Jonathan lets be honest, referring to them as Angels in the Christian sense would be plausible, had lead "angel" no 1 J. Slattery been so adept at slinging around word goddammit - on multiple occasions. Which as u may or may not know constitutes Blasphemy. The director and the author chose not to filter out a massive deet like that from the script and ultimately the movie for a reason. The movie was mediocre
I slightly disagree with this guy's assessment. The inconsistencies he finds in the story, at least in my opinion, are BRILLIANT, because they point out how inconsistent the bible and other religious texts tend to be, which is why at the end, the two protagonists eventually write their own way, which I felt was the equivalent of saying religion is BULLSHIT; there is no fate but what we make (on some Terminator 2 shit).
