Your video is so cool it's such a breath of fresh air! And your kids make it even better! I feel so good after watching this video thank you so much ! I'm going to make some yogurt too
I watched this video again just now because I am starting some yogurt. Funny thing...I started at 2:30pm too so my time is matching yours! Lol...So at 6 I turn it off, at 9 I add the yogurt and cover and then check on it sometime tomorrow. So excited! Hope my bunch loves it! 😊😊🤞🤞💕🥰🥰 Thank you sweet friend! 😘😘 Love you!
My crock pot is temperamental, so it doesn't always work for me to just rely on a set number of hours for each step of the yogurt making. I have a cheesemaking thermometer that I use to make my yogurt. That seems to work best for me☺️ I have never tried chocolate chips in my yogurt, but LMM has given me a good idea! I usually eat mine with homemade granola and strawberry jam.

Tuesday, October 13, 2023 I love that you can make yogurt in a slow cooker but it seems thinner than I prefer; what could I do to thicken it besides straining it into Greek yogurt. Also, how do I find you video on using the whey?
Thanks for your comment and question. Please pardon my delay. I have been busy teaching in-person classes and am just catching up with comments. We have found that we have thicker or thinner yogurt depending on the type of milk. Also, you can add more starter yogurt than what I used in this video, if you'd like. We use raw or store-bought whole milk, never 2% or skim. Also, we use a thick Greek yogurt for a starter when not using some of our own homemade yogurt as a starter. Sometimes our yogurt is so thick you can stand a spoon in it and sometimes it is not. Not sure if that is helpful but I do appreciate your question. I don't have a video on using whey at this time other than this one for probiotic lemonade. It is delicious and healthy! I do teach an in-person class on the many uses of whey. Here is the lemonade video: ruclips.net/video/0_KiIoffNFQ/видео.html ❤️🏡❤️
A couple of folks have mentioned that it seems thin but, in reality, it isn't. I didn't realize it looks that way on camera. The kids like it any way it turns out. BUT, if it is thin to some folks, you can strain it. I believe (I'll go check) that I linked my Yogurt Straining video to this one. It is super easy and still worth the effort. You end up with either Greek-style yogurt or yogurt cheese, depending on length of straining. I have definitely noticed a difference in thickness when used different milks. 💜katie
You sure can! We do that all the time. You never ever need to buy a special starter. Just start with the plain yogurt I referred to in the video. After that, use your homemade as starter. Every now and then, after several batches, you may wish to restart the process using store-bought yogurt IF you wish.
If you didn't want to make a whole gallon, would the time of cooking be the same? A gallon would we too much in my house as I'm really the only one that eats it.
Good question. I know a lady who tried my method with a half a gallon. I will text her right now and let you know what she says, or if she responds. She is quite up in age and I would guess she hasn't made the yogurt in a few years. Nevertheless, to be quite honest, I really don't know the answer. 🙃katie

@@HeritageWaysKatie It is definately worth the effort! I didn't know that staining it could help thicken it up. My bunch prefer a thicker yogurt over a thinner one. Though a thinner one would be great for smoothies I would think? Almost like a Kefir? I still want to make them some...just have to strain it. I also want to figure out a way to make some with a DF milk. (For Lindsey, Joshua and I). Thank you, sweet friend! 😘😘
I have always wanted to make my own yogurt. One question i like fruit in mine can i add the dried fruit to the milk before turning it on for the 3 hours? Sorry another guestion. You said something about the curds and whey do you separate that afterwards?
Thanks for the questions😃 I would suggest "doctoring it up" after it is made. I believe I included the link to strain it if you want Greek-style yogurt or even yogurt cheese. (I"ll go check to make sure that iCard is in the video.) They curds and whey don't really separate. A little whey rises to the top like it does in store-bought sour cream, yogurt, etc. I strain it to produce a definite separation when I want a thicker yogurt or when I need whey for certain uses. I hope that helps. ❤️katie
HAVE YOU PRODUCED THE NEXT VIDEO OF SEPARATING THE WHEY FROM THE YOGURT ❓ DO YOU USE THE WHEY TO MAKE BISCUITS ❓ DID YOU PURCHASE A YOGURT-MAKER: BOWL WITH A SEPARATOR-SCREEN TO PLACE IN THE REFRIGERATOR THAT HELPS THE WHEY DRIP BELOW THE YOGURT ❓ WHICH WILL ALLOW THE YOGURT TO BECOME VERY-THICK LIKE GREEK YOGURT AND IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU USE THE WHEY WHICH HAS PROBIOTICS IN IT ❓
I’ve wanted to make yogurt but it always seemed hard. This is the easiest way I seen so far. Thank you and LMH and LMM for showing us how easy it really is. God bless y’all.
Thanks for the question. Someone else asked about that and I have to be honest. I have never used this method for half a gallon. I have a much older friend who has made it with half a gallon. It worked for her but I am not sure if she reduced the time or not. I texted her last night but she doesn't recall what she did. Maybe someone could try it and let us know...? 🙃katie

Looks great and super simple! We have goats in milk and will definitely be giving this recipe a go this week!
Great! I have a friend who tried this using home-grown goat's milk and she reports it worked well for her. ❤️

What about using a slow cooker?
i haven't got a crock pot xx

So can I keep a container for next batch??
Yes! I should have mentioned that. Great question.
“I’m gonna cover this up right here. It’s ugly.” 😆😂😂 I feel this as a RUclips creator. 😂😆

Will it get thicker once you refrigerate it?

@@eliseshrabel5394 Great! Yes, straining is easy and removes much of the whey, resulting in a thick product. Enjoy my friend 💜💜

Can I add vanilla or other natural flavorings while it’s cooking? Or a vanilla flavored organic yogurt?
Thanks for asking, Samantha. I would add the vanilla after it is made, if you want that flavoring. 💜katie
How long will that last in the fridge ?
Ours lasts more than a week, easily.
