Rus, your videos are not only entertaining but just PACKED with information- both on the animals you keep but the care you give your animals. EVERY single video I watch of yours, I learn something. Thank you so much for sharing.
Love your millipedes and only just got in to keeping them and have 2 at moment but hopefully get some more tomorrow as it’s our British Tarantula society show

cheryl jones That is awesome! I used to have family in Tuolumne Country, I love that area...lots of interesting critters there too...now that the family has moved, I never get out there anymore.
I've been looking into getting giant America millipedes as pets. I keep running into huge red legged ones they are really interesting to watch and my neicies find them fascinating. thanks for this vid
First time I've seen Hiltonius babies! I think I recently acquired a handful of adults. I'm just never sure on the identification on them but mine look like yours in the vid. Great video, Rus!
Bugs In Cyberspace Thanks Peter! I was quite surprised to see the wee pedelings! I hope yours breed for you 👍 BTW, is that shipment of BDFBs coming soon?
@@Aquarimax Yes and sorry for the delay on that. I had a tiny first shipment of the year come in but expect another very soon. Should be back in very good numbers shortly and to last through the year. Thanks for asking!

I love your videos, they're always so interesting and easy to digest! Do you have any advice for finding a career path in zoology field ? I desperately want to be able to work with arthropods. I've been breeding isopods for a while now and just got some millipedes. It seems impossible to find any jobs around me that relate to my interest in arthropods. Any advice is appreciated :)
@@Aquarimax For sure! I didn't know nearly as much about them as I do now so I probably could make improvements on their enclosure that would help with breeding. Such a fun arthropod, definitely was the most popular when people saw them in my collection.
Break er I did an update on the beetles a month or so ago...I am attempting to raise some larvae. The velvet ants are not as -longing lived, so they eventually passed...but I plan to get a few soon.
Break er sorry to hear that. They can live up to 2 years, but most are a year or less, and there’s no way of knowing how old they are when you get them. They live intensely though...worth it!!
Are those white Springtail mites? And if so did they naturally occur or did you put them into your enclosure ? Thank you for all the informative videos 🙏
Hi, I know this is a little late to the party but I have discovered I have flat back millipedes in my enclosure (i'm assuming they were in my moss that I moved from my flytrap tray). I was also told they are impossible to breed in captivity..? They are black with yellow legs. They best I can describe of them is that they may be Apheloria tigana or of the family? I'd love some help with my idea of attempting to keep the ones who made themselves at home in my enclosure.. If I can get them to reproduce that would be great as I fell in love with these guys after moving to NC and seeing them for the first time crawling around. Any help and information would be welcome. I do have pictures of the ones I have if that could help with figuring out what they truly are and if it's a lost cause to keep them.
Leslie Williams flat-backed millipedes are quite fascinating, although I do not have any experience with that group. There are very few people who have cracked the code on keeping them, although there is some good info on Arachnoboards: arachnoboards.com/threads/communal-apheloria-virginiensis.274453/
@@Aquarimax I shall look there, I think I had stumbled on that forum earlier today in my search. Thank you for the link~
Hi there. I love your channel! I am just getting into keeping and breeding millipedes :) I was wondering if the organic compost needs to be free of manure, or if it matters? Thanks!
Question, will/can millipedes breed between species. Maybe a silly question but I’m brand new to keeping them. I purchased three different pedes, each one a different species. Also, is it safe to collect my own leaf litter locally and put it into their enclosure? Thanks!!
Average T Keeper good question! In general, unless they are very closely related, they will not produce hybrid offspring, although sometimes unrelated species will attempt to mate.
Hi Rus, I hope you're well. I know this video was made 2 years ago, but I have a question that Google isn't giving me a direct answer for- I have some bumblebee millipedes, and I don't mind if they breed, but how do I control the population? Is there any way to do so? Any advice will help. Thanks!
Great video and collection. I would love to buy some of your pulchrus "I am sure I spelled that wrong " and sp. 1. Or trade. I breed a lot of different species of isopods and millipedes.
How do I set up a tank? I hope to find some wild ones due to rain and me being in arizona it's the desert millipede il find so what exactly do I do to house them?
Antonio Martinez I made a video on the care of Ivory millipedes. You can set your desert millipedes up in the same way, but just add a little more ventilation: ruclips.net/video/c4usgAJjoHo/видео.html
Electric Energy there are some tiny species that sometimes inhabit dart frog vivariums, but most of the larger species need a substrate more nutritious than ABG mix. If it could work, it would certainly add a unique beauty to a dart frog enclosure. 👍
Pseudovates I would love a couple more, but I am currently waiting on a permit to go through. 👍 hopefully soon. Thank you for the offer! Once I get the permit I will check back with you.
Pseudovates It’s great you have a sustainable breeding colony going! I think my young ones are close to adulthood, around 5 inches long. Hopefully we’ll be seeing some babies soon.
I have a 2.5 inch baby millipede that keeps somehow climbing to the ceiling of its tank and I’m worried about it falling. It’s about an 8 inch drop and I also have a piece of cork in there. Should I be concerned, and if so what can I do about it?
If it is falling 8 inches onto a thick bed of leaf litter, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Falls can definitely cause damage, but that short of a fall onto a soft substrate shouldn’t be a big deal. However, if you are concerned, you could add a couple of inches of leaf litter...so it’s only a -inch drop.
Aquarimax Pets Thank you! So should I be concerned about it falling on the cork flat? Would it maybe be a good idea to just remove it from the enclosure?
