    Before I used to think Gatsby's love for Daisy was completely genuine but.. Over time I began to see through the cracks of a fantasy relationship. Sure it started off as a cute little romantic story. But he only idolises her for just an unrealistic perfection to climb 🪜 the high social society. It was more of an idea of greatness rather than real relationship goals.🎆💍🎬💮

    • @KoriStreamori
      @KoriStreamori 3 года назад +76

      @@Bellarose36 it's interesting I actually wrote a thesis paper on this. Daisy loved Gatsby too, but he idealised her way too much. He idealised her to the point of him loosing her actually, not because she didn't love him, but because she realised that he wasn't in love with her, but the idea of her. But Nick as the unreliable narrator that he is of course doesn't catch that. Instead he thinks she doesn't go with Gatsby because she is after Tom's money

    • @realniggashit3
      @realniggashit3 3 года назад +27

      @@Bellarose36 Gatsby was a social climber and a snob. He was ashamed of his humble upbringing and thought marrying a blue-blood old-money girl like Daisy would legitimize him as not just a financial elite, but also a society and cultural elite. He didn't love Daisy. He was a narcissist in love with himself. Ever since he was a kid, he thought he was entitled to money and a well-bred arm candy trophy wife. He was willing to reach his goal by any means necessary, including illegal means. Everything was a means to an ends. Everyone was just a disposable stepping stone.

    Their whole meeting emphasises the beauty and depth of Gatsby’s love, but also it’s destined failure. Gatsby has clearly imagined this moment a thousand times and planned it to perfection, filling the room with flowers, scourging the house clean, but when it comes down to it he freaks out because he is so terrified she will reject him. It’s awkward and painful at first, but they later clearly say what they need to say and reunite lovingly. But the flawed reality as opposed to his perfect dream is embedded in their relationship from the start. It’s always doomed to fail.

      My cousins were in love with me. It’s an often thing, then you grow up and realize you are adults and not love you. Haha. It’s just boys. My boy cousins said they would marry me when they grew up and stuff, it was probably meant to be a joke in regards to past similar to mine, in a way.

    The pause, the synchronized breathing, her feminine eyes surrendering to his energy, he faintly steps a tad forward, she faintly steps forward, he slightly nods as he holds his gaze like he must make it up for the years.
    Their dialogue makes such a surprise so subtle & desperately casual.
    One of the most enigmatic romantic scenes in cinema.

    As unlikable as a character Daisy might be, I think it was rather polite of her to tell Nick the chauffeur's name, she didn't have to do that. Then again I'm always somebody that finds like tiny good things and characters like her so I might just be overlooking it.

    I don't think Gatsby was really in love with Daisy. I think Gatsby was in love with what Daisy represents. To have a woman like Daisy by his side represents wealth & status. Something Gatsby has aspire to gain since childhood. I think Gatsby failing to obtain Daisy all those years ago is what's really driving him to obsess over her. Remember when Gatsby was younger he managed to obtain wealth from a man he worked for only to have it snatched away. Causing Gatsby to start all over again to find a means of wealth. It's the same with Daisy.

    • @jeremytheoneofdestiny8691

      I don’t think so. The only reason Gatsby ever cared about wealth and fame is because he thought that’s what he needed in order to have Daisy. It was always about Daisy. It may still not be love though… more like infatuation and obsession.
