Batumi on Georgia's Independence Day - May 26th!
On May 26, Georgia celebrates the main state holiday - Independence Day. Exactly 105 years ago, on May 26, 1918, the democratic government of Georgia under the leadership of Noe Jordania declared independence from the Russian Empire. This first democratic republic existed for only two and a half years and then was annexed to the Soviet Union. In 1991, after the collapse of the USSR, Georgia again declared its independence, referring to the Declaration of May 26, 1918. Since then, this holiday has been celebrated annually, and this year it is celebrated for the 32nd time. This day has become a symbol of the people's desire for freedom and independence.
Folk festivals, an exhibition of military equipment, an exhibition and sale of folk crafts, an anthem performed by young people and concerts were held on the square near the Alphabet Tower.
