Lake Nurigel (in the center of the park on May 6, Batumi) has its own legend. It was once called Gel Bash. According to legend, Nuri-Gel was nicknamed as a result of the fact that a child named Nuri drowned in the waters of the lake. The girl's mother could not come to terms with the loss, came to the shores of the reservoir every day and called her daughter. Nuri Gel translates from Georgian as: "Nuri, I'm waiting." The lake is also called Pioneer Lake. By itself, a natural reservoir, due to its location above sea level, is mainly powered by groundwater. The history of Lake Nuri in a sense reflects the development of the whole country. Initially, it was an impassable and harsh swampy area. Then the landscaping of the entire territory of Batumi began, including the cleaning of the shores of the lake and the surrounding area, which turned from an impassable forest area into a park. In 1947, the first ship called Pioneer was launched on the water surface of the lake, which was the reason for one of the names of the lake itself. The connection of the lake with the Black Sea through the canal has opened up new opportunities for water transport. Nuri Gel is replete not only with its picturesque views, which are difficult to dispute; its waters are home to many fish, mainly freshwater: carp, mullet, carp, dace and other species. You can admire the picturesque landscape of the Georgian unique nature not only on the shore. In the central park of Batumi, you can rent a boat and go on a trip around the lake; if desired, you can even operate a boat. It will be an unforgettable adventure for the whole family, there really is something to see in Georgia. In addition to exciting boat trips, you can relax in the park in cozy picnic areas; young children will enjoy bright playgrounds and a small zoo, where a variety of animals of the area live. The cost of the catamaran: • 30 lari for 30 minutes (at the exchange rate on 04/12/2024 it is 11 US dollars). • 1 hour of riding = 60 lari (22 US dollars), but if you bargain, you can take it for 50 lari (19 US dollars). The recommended duration of skiing is 30 minutes (an hour will be a bit long, because it's a bit monotonous, although it's just right for lovers of solitude).
