Remember how Aang was devastated when he discovered his mentor’s remains? Appa and Momo are Aang’s only LIVING connections to his people. With Appa taken, that’s emotionally devastating in a HUGE way. Don’t think he meant to go into the avatar state; he was so upset that his emotions triggered it. Tell me you felt the blood in your veins freeze or that your skin was crawling when Aang shouted “TELL ME WHERE APPA IS!!

Look, Aang is my favorite character out of ATLA and Korra, he’s just the best, but part of why I love him so much is because he does have a little hot head in him, that pops out for tiny moments, here and there, and it’s mostly bc he’s a 12 year old boy. A 12 year old who yes has been through a lot already, but he does act out at times, and I think that’s what she meant by that. He’s mostly a heart of gold and kind for sure, but it does happen.
How about when he yells at Bumi, even if it was to defend his friends he still gets very mad. What about when he yells at his Waterbending Master bc he won’t teach Katara? What about during The Chase when he snapped on Toph? I’m not shading his character, I love this about him, he’s more interesting this way, but he’s definitely been more than just a funny nice guy the entire journey up to this point.
@@TopNotchWatcher87 her comment said always angry, being upset in the situations with Bumi is totally valid and also an indication that she was wrong, period
7:07 oh, deserts naturally have the most extreme temperature variations because they're so vast, open, and have little plant life. But the reason they get so extremely cold is because at night the desert isn't facing the sun, the thing heating it up, so it just naturally cools down facing space, down to more extreme cold, again because of having little features or plant cover
I've watched this countless times and the ending scene still gets me. No word was needed, the emotion was loud and clear. Katara deserves so much more respect from the fandom.
Loved your reaction, as usual! I love how Prez has forgotten a lot, so some of it is still a surprise to him. Your personalities bounce off each other nicely, so it’s almost like I never saw you react to it before, it seems like a new journey!
I think something also seem to forget to is that Aang has lost everyone he every know or cared about and it was technically his fault. That guilt still haunts him but he was still around and lost appa , him a fn momo are all he has left of his people is heritage his culture his old life. Imagine being the last of your race and all you have left is a specific breed of dog or cat that you race used to have in abundance than someone carelessly steals then sells it. Especially in real world standards that cat or dog is probably as good as gone you’d be freakin devastated especially if it’s your fault your people went extincted.
And* strong. Being caring and loving is definitely a strength on its own, especially with katara being the only one strong enough to keep everyone together
Deserts get very cold at night because there is little to retain the heat. Sand quickly dissipates the heat, and the dry air cannot hold it. Without the insulating effects of moisture and vegetation, the ground loses heat rapidly after sunset. (This is why desert cities are often hot at night, moisture from plants, buildings, and concrete hold the heat) While it doesn't always get cold per se, the temperature can drop dramatically. This rapid drop in temperature, combined with sweat-soaked clothing from the day's heat, can lead to hypothermia as the night cools. Growing up in the Mojave Desert and Great Basin, we learned to dress in layers when camping to adapt to the extreme temperature changes. When traveling, it's best to rest during the hottest part of the afternoon and move during the cooler parts of the day. Additionally, understanding the desert's unique climate helps in preparing adequately for its harsh conditions, ensuring safety and comfort in an environment where temperatures can swing from scorching hot to freezing cold within hours
The first "artificial" ice was made in the desert thousands of years ago. Look up "Yakhchal", they often had shallow pools of water to form ice overnight using radiative cooling. My favorite video on the topic and one that introduced it to me is The Forgotten History of Ice by The History Guy, feel free to search it on RUclips.
Aang is that pissed of because appa and momo are the only connections to his culture and people who are wiped out completely, and remember we dont know any other air bison (in atla).
Something I like about the serpent's pass is that the sign at the begining says "abandon hope". The baby is then named Hope. Not only does it tie into the theme of the episode, but if hope was abandoned, Hope may have never been born.
They went under the water so as to attract less attention. It didn't work out. Plan B. Sokka was taking off his shoes because he's smart. Swimming with shoes on is much harder, and it only takes a couple of seconds to remove. Aang is in a state of shock. Appa is the only living tie he has to the past. Absolutely everything else is a century beyond him. So, he's taking it not so well. And, yes, he did kill the buzzard wasp. It showed how easily Aang could kill others and they would be pretty much powerless to do anything about it. Like Spiderman and Superman, Aang holds back almost all his strength when fighting. It's probably another reason he tries to dodge, evade and flee battle.
Appa and Momo are the only thing left that he has of his people and his culture. Aang is the last of his kind in a strange world. It really fuckin sad.
