Reality, he had no idea what to do. If he attacked the Black Pearl, that would end all his unfinished dealings with Jack. If he attacked the Flying Dutchman, he would've signed his own death warrant anyway along with his men.
Yeah I'm my Opinion Lord Cutler Beckett deserves more credit for his role he made every scene important he was involved in and he had the leverage to have Davey Jones do his bidding and also kill off the kraken he was merciless and ruthless and he didn't need Supernatural powers plus his acting was excellent long live the EITC
4:34 - The end of one of the most despicable villains in movie history... such an undeniable spectacle as the music descends to a final, haunting choir. The end of Lord Cutler Beckett as his mangled body sinks into the ocean, swaddled in the flag of the East Indian Trading Company. True cinema, his entire death scene.
@@juanbitacoradelmusico5888 2:27 - 2:53 Some of the chant sounds similar to the one in the Kraken's theme. Interesting fact also, I once played this alongside the scene in the second film where the Kraken destroys the trader ship, and the music fit the scene VERY well.
There's also the melody of Davy Jones' theme woven in. However, I kind of like to think of it as not only his theme, but also the theme of the Dutchman itself. Here, the melody has a more heroic sound to it, signifying that the ship is under the command of a new captain.
Lord Cutler Beckett: Nothing personal, Jack... it's just good business. (The Black Pearl crew members see the Flying Dutchman surface from the sea) Lord Cutler Beckett: Ah, she survived. (Cuts to where the crew members of the Flying Dutchman transform back into humans) Will Turner: Ready on the guns! Jack Sparrow: Full canvas! Captain Barbossa: Aye, full canvas! (The Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman sail in tandem on both sides of the Endeavour) Beckett's officer: Orders, sir? Sir? Gibbs: Captain? Jack Sparrow: Fire. Gibbs: FIRE! Will Turner: FIRE! Captain Barbossa: FIRE! Elizabeth: FIRE! (Both the Pearl and the Dutchman fire at the Endeavour, blowing it to smithereens) Beckett's officer: Orders!? Orders, sir!? EITC crew member: Sir, what do you command? Lord Cutler Beckett: (stunned) It's just... good business... Beckett's officer: Abandon ship! ABANDON SHIP! (Jumps off the Endeavour) (Beckett walks down to the main deck as the Endeavour continues to be blown to pieces, and is engulfed in an explosion) (The Endeavour explodes, and Beckett's body lands on top of an EITC flag)
3 gun decks on the Endeavour compared to the two both the Pearl and Dutchman carried, a full broadside from the man of war would have caused incredible damage to both vessels. There is a reason that no pirate would sail the black flag near a naval vessel, let alone one with such firepower.
From what I understand, The Dutchman has the ability to grant Will the power to restore the Pearl so that essentially makes the Pearl immortal and Dutchman is essentially the power of the seas itself so killing it is like killing the seas themselves. Not possible. And on top of that, I think they were ready to take Beckett out or die trying and didn't care. But idk for sure 🤷♂️
If you think about it though, Beckett was the real good guy. His goal was to destroy all the pirates, which is not all that evil. Pirates, historically, were very bad people who raped, pillaged, and plundered. The pirates are the real bad guys.
The problem with that is that Beckett had innocent people killed because he suspected them of being pirates, only wanted the pirates dead because they threatened his plans to use the Flying Dutchman to allow the East India Trading Company and therefore himself to take control of the sea, had Elizabeth's dad killed for knowing about Davy Jones's heart, forced Davy Jones to kill the Kraken so Jones couldn't use it against him. Beckett was also the reason Jack became a pirate since back when Jack was a privateer working for the EITC Beckett told him to transport slaves but Jack refused because he didn't see people as cargo. So if anything Beckett's not a good guy. He's more evil than the pirates.
Really, the destruction of the Endeavor was extremely poor tactics by the Pearl and the Dutchman. They sailed past the Endeavor on both sides, putting their own ships in the firing line. Worse, they allowed the Endeavor to use the full power of its cannons. First Class Ship of the Line, pride of the British Fleet vs a pirate ship built for speed and a glorified trader, by any means of realism the Endeavor should have blown both of them to smithereens in one volley. Ah, who cares, still an awesome scene
tbf, the dutchman is cursed to sail the seas, eternally ferrying the souls of the damned to the Locker, so any attempts to sink it will only bring it down momentarily at best.
I think it was to late at the time for the Endeavour to get anyone in position due to the fact Beckett thought the Dutchman was on his side and they were already ontop of them when Beckett panicked and didn't give orders
Technically, the Endeavor was helpless, the tactic used by the Dutchman and the Pearl is an age old battle strategy which could be used on ships even 2 or 3 times the size of the aggressors. Once the ships were in position, there was next to no hope in even salvaging the situation. And even if there was, Beckett was a businessman, not a Captain, he didn't bode well in high pressure situations, and lacked the experience to know of truly defensive strategies.
Pirating isn't "freedom." That's Disney's stupid narrative. Freedom to pillage, rape, kill, and plunder isn't freedom for the victims. Freedom to smuggle tobacco and sugar isn't freedoms for the small business owners put out of business because of it. Yes, that's what pirates did. There is nothing else they did. They didn't just sail the seas shouting "Where has the rum gone?" The suspension of Civil Liberties was excessive yes, and the hangings probably sadly killed some innocents. But that doesn't make the cause of ending piracy evil. Beckett was harsh and cruel, but he did what was needed to be done to end piracy.
the potc franchise is interesting because it twists our perspective on the norm. we're used to pirates being villains, and it's a disney series, so although mature in content, it's primarily marketed towards kids, who's probably only other idea of a pirate is captain hook from peter pan. so for these films to introduce us to a pirate protagonist who's mostly likable (jack) and his buddies, that's making us have to like the pirates, even though traditionally, and even in the films, they do pillage and murder and generally do bad things. personally, i like films where the protagonists are technically the bad guys, but we still like them because they're the main characters. how different of a movie would this be if it was from the navy/eitc's perspectives?? with beckett or maybe norrington as the protag?? significantly different film. beckett was greedy and egomaniacal, i've always liked his character because unlike, say, davy jones, you actually do see his type of villainy in the real, modern world. you see corrupt, selfish businessmen all the time. plus i just love sophisticated villains, it's such a fun trope lol. but yeah, in short, he technically wasnt a bad guy, but because of how the movies are presented to us, he was.
