  • In this episode we bring you Fall Salmon Fishing on the mouth of the Klickitat River. This is our 2nd most favorite place to fall salmon fish for king chinook in the Pacific Northwest. We captured some great Columbia Gorge scenic views of many fall salmon being caught by many boats.

I was the one reeling in the Duckworth at 7:39 of your video. Mine popped off right at the boat too!

It’s kinda of a catch 22 fishing the mouth of the Klick with that many boats. You’re forced to get the fish to the boat to hot. No time to tire them out first. Fishing barbless doesn’t help either.

Also it helps w a 360 to keep boat in gear, and have the net person next to the kicker and the fish fighter towards the bow so the fish gets pushed to the net. Great video. 👍🏻

She’s learning! Hehe. She’s scared to run the kicker with fish on and other boats every where. Of course she hasn’t lost a fish yet being she goes to the front, and I’m in the back running kicker and netting.

Learning to net takes practice, stowing rods and details in preparation takes some training by the captain. It is great you have a patient fishing partner.

I agree, and the great thing about having it on video, I’ve watched it several times. I can clearly see now all the mistakes I made. 🙄

I fish with my wife, she had no experience when we first started fishing together and tries really hard. It has taught me patience and how I need to up my game to help her be successful. She out fishes me on a regular basis now and is so much fun to fish with..

At least you got to film everyone else catching fish

Try lengthening your bumper to your 360. Then you will get your desired “thump” but your boat will be moving the gear through the fish faster. Did you have 16-20 oz lead? Did you try different amounts of line out on each rod? Did you vary your depths? Try 24-28 leaders for spinners and 30” plus for stuffer baits. If you saw about 100 fish caught, you are in the right spot, but something in your gear is a tad off. Try washing your flashers, swivels, and spinner/stuffers.

We’ve had no problem hooking fish in 25 to 40 feet of water. I like a shorter bumper in shallower boat congested water. Line counters set at 45 feet, 12 oz weight and trolling 1 1/2 mph. My problem is wife is still a green horn and scared to run troller in boat congested water. That was our first day filming with a voice control GoPro. We actually hooked 4 fish, but only landed 1.
I agree with you 100%, everything you said. I’ve already came to the conclusion I need to get into deeper water and use heavier weight. Mainly to get away from the crowd where my wife is confortable running troller.

Yikes! Your wife really needs to work on her net skills. Be well, fish on!

She panicked, because her Brads cut plug she left hanging over the boat got wrapped on my line. That was the real failure. Lol
