      Crabbing from any pier is not as successful as crabing from a boat. However, kids have fun even if they catch throwbacks, and a couple legal sized. You can also fish at the same time crab pot’s are soaking.

      Yep! It’s the only setup I use at Brewster, because it works. The only thing I change is spinners colors that I showed in my previous video. Just find the right speed useually, .7 to 1.2 mph. Drop your gear in the water beside the boat about 5 feet down while trolling up stream and watch it as you adjust your speed. Your dodger should sway back & forth causing the spinner to jerk from side to side. When it does you’ll know you got the right speed.

    • @everybitoutdoors
      @everybitoutdoors 6 месяцев назад

      Stick with cannon ball weights, always use two pole endorsement. Four rod’s all running flashers. Sockeye swim together in groups. You have a lot better chance to attract a group of sockeye using a group of strategically placed flashers in the right depth of water trolling the right speed according to water flow. Like I said, in the video that speed is useually .7 to 1.2 mph.

    I used your advice on the rods and angles it helped immensely. My hook-to-landing percentages went way up. I still lost a few and had a lot of hits without hookups but overall way better. Had to do some hard schooling on my Steelheading buddy about not setting the hook:) Thanks again Glenn

    • @everybitoutdoors

      @@glennbooher4298 I use the same 45 degree angle technique when trolling flicker shad for walleye. I do however, keep the drag set a lttle looser. Sockeye my drag is tight to help sink the triple in the corner of the mouth. I loosen it after I grab the rod if needed. When fishing short leaders behind a flasher I believe sockeye will snap and turn away from the flasher which is in their face.

      I only use the all chrome dodger for good reason they sway back and forth from side to side giving your 14 inch leader to the spinner a jerking action. The more you jerk the spinner side to side that will entice sockeye to strike. Flimsy rods are a disaster, fishing out to far, and to long of leader to spinner is the problem to not catching as many fish or none at all.

    It almost looks like you put the Dodger on backward at 4:24 in the video is this correct or is it just my eyes or have I been doing it wrong. Your success rate is far above mine and I do not set the hook either. I will try your methods and hook setup next time I go. Thanks for the video I need all of the help I can get. I get lots of bites but not so many fish in the net. Thanks again!

    • @everybitoutdoors
      @everybitoutdoors 6 месяцев назад

      If you cut the spiral wire clevis off the dodger which I do, then you can run the dodger either direction. You will also get the same action either direction. The hook setup needs to be combined with a shorter and stiffer rod. It’s also important to set your rod holers a 45 degree angle more toward the back of the boat, and not pointing out to the side. You also need to tighten your drag fairly tight for the strike, then loosen it a little when fighting the fish. Sockeye are pretty aggresive when they strike. They’ll snap then turn away from the flasher. You want the triple stinger hook with no give, so when they bite and turn their head it will drive the triple hook into the side of their mouth.

    5:56 bottum one is a steelhead. Note the sqaure tail. Most of the Columbia sockeye are hatchery reared through brood stock programs, the okanagan being one of the most sucessful salmon recoveries in history. They just dont bother to clip the sockeye. Tight lines and thanks for the video.

      Hey Logan, you are correct. That was a steelhead at 5:56 on the bottom, it did have a squared tail. The Okanagan River broodstock program consists of capturing WILD sockeye returning to Osoyoos Lake. They’re the majority of all Columbia River Sockeye. The offspring of these fish are then released into the lake where they return. They do not return to a hatchery, and that’s why their adipose fin remains in tact. In reality that fact makes it confusing as to whether or not they are true native. As far as I know sockeye returning to Baker Lake and Wenatchee Lake are all native. This is my understanding after the research I did.

    I feel so bad for your wallet. That hummer is probably such a gas guzzler.

      Actually, better than RUclips tripping with an RV. Much cheaper than an RV and the Hummer can go anywhere, even with the boat.

    I like Kelly's but they have one of the worst launch ramps. I'd rather launch in Wheeler but you really have to pay attention to the tide. I used to go to the Jetty Fishery (just down the road).
