Mexico's Hidden Jungle Oasis (Welcome to Yelapa!)

  • Welcome to Yelapa! In today's Mexico vlog we hop on a water taxi and head to the beautiful beachside pueblito of Yelapa, Mexico. One of the cool things about Yelapa is that you can only get there by watertaxi. Although it isn't technically an island, because it is "difficult" (more so than being able to drive there) it gives it a really island/secluded vibe. Keep in mind that the water is normally MUCH prettier. We went during the peak of rainy season (July-late Sept), so the water wasn't at it's best.

I always wanted a T-shirt with the slogan, "A palapa in Yelapa is better than a condo in Redondo".

Right! I remember the waterfall, but there was no real town nearby. I don't remember the foot bridge; I think you had to get to that side of the bay by boat.
But Yelapa still looks unspoiled today! It's GORGEOUS!! How much can you develop, when the only way in is by boat? No cars!
The food stands and palapas on the beach have been there for ages. That was all there was at one time.

@@vickiladu6755 it’s been about three years since I’ve been there. Seems like it was around $5.00 but I don’t remember. You can buy a round trip ticket or one way ticked. The boat taxis will tell you the times they pick you up on the beach.

I have been enjoying your videos for a couple years, but this one really brought back old memories. The only time I was in Yelapa was about 36 years ago. I recall reading about it in the P.V. local paper.I was between wives and with a lady friend. We hopped on a boat and were met by the pie lady. I bought a piece of coconut pie then and another when we left, hours later. We rented a horse and let it lead me to the falls. My girl friend walked.after we crossed the water. She felt sorry for the horses because they were ready for the farm in the sky. As we crossed the river we had to raise our feet up to keep them out of the river. I was a little disappointed with the size of the falls, but I wasn't disappointed in the trip. After we got back to the beach we ate in one of the many stands on the beach. I don't recalling a town on the south side of the beach. That must have come later. Any way it was a fun day. I am glad to learn they still have a pie lady.

We started on the train from Mexicali, which I don't think you can do anymore.....but it was life changing to this city kid. I think it dropped us off in Tepic, then bus to PV. Saw a manta ray on the boat to Yelapa. sigh!!!

We went to Yelapa back in 2008, on our first trip to Mexico ever, and it is something I have never forgotten. Probably the most picturesque place I have seen in Mexico, and i have been to Mexico now about 12 times since then. I am also glad I did it when we did, because, as much as I would like to return, I have knee issues now and I don't think I could handle the walking and steps( just too rustic for me now sadly) We had a piece of that Yelapie, but I don't think it was coconut, doesnt matter, I just remember it being good.

There is a dirt road from Chacala, a ranch town about a half hour up in the hills that ends on the south hill side. That is where the live stock comes from. Also there is a waterfall about an hour upriver that is worth a visit. A driving tour from P.V. to Yelapa is doable and a neat experience. The beach gets washed out every year during the rainy season and rebuilds itself over the next month or so.

I’ve been to Yelapa twice and love it. It was cool to see the back area that you walked to get to the bridge. What was the name of the restaurant where you had the blue quesadillas and the salad? Looked like a cute place. Shows me there’s more to explore the next time we go back. Can’t wait till we can travel again! Glad to see your sweet faces again!
