    You need to get a metal pet slicker brush for detangling doll hair! I picked one up to use on this absolutely matted Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie and it, combined with copious amounts of conditioner and working from the bottom up, saved the hair with an insanely nice final product. I don't use any other brushes for doll hair now.

    One of the things that really gave me a good impression of kanekalon hair is that it holds curls really well and they're pretty tight. Idk the only doll hair I've restored is my gme Bloom and at first i was pretty scared since I know kanekalon hair behaves differently to any other type of doll hair but a boil wash made wonders to it (not me thinking it would melt the doll's hair since the hair fiber is so thin 💀💀💀)

  • @pigsisters4869
    @pigsisters4869 2 года назад +4

    So you can boil kanekalon but you cannot flat iron i believe. But I love when kanekalon hair is long, it’s just to satisfying

    AFAIK, fabric softener does not strip anything from the hair, it leaves a coating, like conditioner. I think this rumor came from people noticing it making their towels less absorbent, but it's not eating anything from the towels, its actually from the product building up a thick layer on the towel.
    Unless I'm dumb and it reacts differently with synthetic hair fibers than towels, but unless I see evidence of it actually ruining doll hair, and i haven't, I don't buy it lol

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  2 года назад

      Never heard of it ruining the hair but I’ve read that you’re not supposed to use it on nylon fabric which is what nylon hair actually is. I’m just not willing to take the chance when this is easy and works well

    • @Tama-Hero
      @Tama-Hero 2 года назад +2

      @@xCanadensis I googled it and a lot of places say that you SHOULD use small amounts of fabric softener on nylon clothes to keep them from becoming static-y. They recommend against using it on anything porous (athletic wear, towels, etc) just because it will make them less absorbent.
      Additionally don't use fabric softener on like, cashmere or wool, but if I have a luxury sweater or something Im probably just taking it to a dry cleaner lmao

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  2 года назад +1

      I just really don’t want to risk it. When I worked for American girl we had this long hair care master list we were supposed to learn and that was on the top of the list for huge no-no’s. I love the way dolls with fabric softener treatments feel but I’m not comfy doing it myself. Maybe someday but I really don’t want to mess with it

    • @Tama-Hero
      @Tama-Hero 2 года назад +2

      @@xCanadensis Your dolls, your decision ultimately! I am just annoyed at the misinformation about fabric softener because really, this is a quick google to debunk, and I have had great results with it. People have been using fabric softener on dolls for decades, and I think if there was any real risk, we would have some actual evidence to back it up by now. Just tired of people coming for me for using it when I always have amazing results and no one who has a problem with it can ever articulate why I shouldn't do it or back it up with anything. Instead I just get people saying "oh no you're so stupid you're ruining your dolls" when my dolls are beautiful and not ruined at all lol

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  2 года назад

      Oh I didn’t mean to come for you or anyone else! I’m just sick to death of making a video about how to do a specific method and getting a million comments about fabric softener so I was preemptively attempting to curb that. (It seems that you have the opposite problem as I do actually!) It makes the hair feel dry and light and I’m not the biggest fan. It is much softer and feels very nice and I have nothing against it but I prefer my dolls to be as accurate to their original factory form as possible

    Yeah I wish I knew about treating kankelon hair before ruining my Madison's hair oof. I saw doll youtubers use boiling water on kankelon so I was like "oh its should be fine." Also I didn't think kankelon could come as curly/wavy lol, gotta test strand/just clean with cold water before doing stuff like that now. I read from a site on how steam could somewhat make damaged kankelon hair look somewhat nice again but havent tried it to see if its true. Cant wait to use this tutorial for future reference. I like the results.

    I have found a Hairmazing prom Noah in a charity shop. Her hair was so damaged. I have never seen anything like this before. It was literally burnt in places. It was strange because the rest of the doll was like new including her dress. I wonder what happened to that doll and what hair type have Hairmazing. Anyway, I tried everything to save that doll's hair ( except the hair straightener, I don't have any). Nothing worked. I had to cut some of her hair. I don't mind. I have that doll already and she looks cute with shorter hair. It is still long enough. I redressed her totally differently anyway. I can't help thinking that Hairmazing dolls don't have very good quality hair. All my thrifted omgs have fabulous hair depite having been played with.

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  3 месяца назад

      Mostly yes! Most MLP use nylon so it’ll actually be way easier than this. Boiling water and conditioner is more than enough for them. If they’re still frizzy after then use a straightener on low heat (I usually only ever do this for g1 MLP)
      If your pony has tinsel then DO NOT use heat!! The tinsel will come out
