Great Review Boss You are the only one that i have seen to give such an in depth review about this product, and I greatly apreciate it. I was thinking about purchasing one of these grills. You have now told me everything to look out for. Smoke Hollow should definatily compensate you for these. Thanks again. I saw somewhere online that there is another company that has a similiar grill but is made better. I am sorry i dont remember the name but if I find it again I will post it to your comments, just in case you want to replace the Smoke Hollow.
Suggestion - Line the bottom with aluminium foil and it will make clean up a lot easier. Plus it might cut down on some of the heat damage too. Also, if you heat it up and then spray it down with your favorite cooking oil after you are done using it it will help reduce some of the rust too. Kind of like how you treat a cast iron skillet. great review, I wanted to buy this unit years ago but it was too big for where I wanted to put it.
thx. i rebuilt this grill a few times. unfortunately, chinese stamped sheet metal will only last so long, no matter what preventative measures you take. Our new cooker review is coming soon. thanks for watching !
It is my understanding that you can cook on the infrared burner with cast iron. Has anyone tried that?? We are assembling our new 4 in 1 today and I am excited to start using it. I love cooking in cast iron so I will be giving it a try because I don't think I will use the searing option very often either. Great to see the grill has a good 4+ years ahead!!
Thanks for your review. Neighbor left his old grill behind. It seems to work fine except the inner lining on one side of the gas burning walls is /has rotted away from rust. I am trying to figure out what type of material is safe to use to put in it's place? Need something that will hold up the burner shields. thanks!
I miss your original intro!, Because of you is I got my 4n1 3 years ago, and I have to say I could not be happier with it. I was a Proflame gas burner all the way until I had to start replacing the guts and that would have been over 400 bucks.. Then OSH had these on a end of the season sale for ??? buck99 ?? as I recall. I have not used the gas side for 2 years just because I love the fire box and grill side better. FYI for anybody that is thinking about getting one of these, .. If you use the fire box as a grill along with the rest of the cooker... 19 T-Bone's can be cooked at the same time, but please keep the BBQ master supplied with cold beer :)
From what I've read LP (PROPANE) leads to more rapid rusting than NG (natural gas). Your experience with greater rusting on the gas side than the charcoal side would indicate that that's true. 4years is great life though!
I'm at about 4 years with mine too (April 2020). Mine has been covered and in my garage the whole time so I have not had the rust issues you have had. My charcoal tray leans to the left for some reason. I rarely use the propane side. My flash guards are rusting though. I didn't do any mods to mine, but one of my casters locked up so I gave by grill a lift kit (4" casters). I have a hard time keeping smoking temperatures constant, but I'm kind of a rookie so it might be me. I don't like the dampening from the fire box to the smoker. Too hot on the fire box side which limits how mush food you can put in the smoker. For the price you really can't complain. I got mine at Sam's Club for $350.00 This has been a trusty steak burner and rib smoker for 4 years and I think I'll probably keep it for the propane function and invest in a charcoal or pellet type smoker. (30 retired Navy BTW...)
Drunken Sailor - Thanks for the thorough review. Question: Though you gave an update on the grills condition over a 4 year span, I don't believe that you mentioned in your video as to whether the grill was covered (when not in use) over those 4 years. If not, then I assume that may have enabled the rust spread?
thank you so much for these videos. im looking at getting one of these. i think i will. another thing you can do when you first get your grill is go to the auto parts store and pick up a can of header paint so you can paint the charcoal tray and smoke box. nevermind you just said it at 5:04 as i were
We are considering the Smoke Hollow 4 in 1 that is currently for sale at Sam's for $369 and your videos have been very helpful. My only question is about how often you use it? Would you say you use it twice/week or more/less. We figure four years out of a grill without replacing internals sounds pretty great. :) Thanks for the info and the videos!
I have one love it, also have the rust issue on the smoke box, I'm going to try your idea on that one. The 3rd burner doesn't work at the moment I need to fix that. The cover fits great but I'm on my second one, the sun does turn the cover white fairly quick. Also the cover tears easy after its been in the sun for a season. The burner covers on my grill are rusted to the point I need new ones, You've given me some good ideas on this grill thanks
Had pretty much decided on the Oklahoma Joe Longhorn, saw one of these Saturday at the local Orchard Supply. The Joe is much heavier construction, this one has much larger grill surfaces. Not sure about how much I'd use the infrared.
wow unbelievable from what I read here mine is 5 years old it has no rust or pit holes and I use it all the time and cover it but maybe it matters where you live if it gets alot of moist from the weather but I love mine
I just picked one up before it hit the dump. It's rough on the propane side like yours but worst. I'm going to cut out the back and replace it with new sheet metal. The drawers are completely done and the floors in both sides. I've got $0 into it so I'm ok. Do you know of a place for replacement parts?
off the top of my head, no. you might be better off jerry-rigging your own mods if you're already prepared to replace some of the metal. good luck. would love to see what your final product is. thanks for watching !
no. the charcoal side is solid, with some (9) holes punched in. the drawer slides under it. The gas side "floor" is the drawer itself. Mine is gone now. I got rid of it last year when I bought my Lang. It just wasn't going to survive another season
Thanks for the videos, Sailor. I've been looking at the Smoke Hollow. I was initially concerned that it would provide three cooking options, but likely not do them very well. Your videos have me seeing it as a serious option. I'm curious. Do you cover your grill, or does it stay out. Also, what general clean up do you do after each use? Forgive me if you've already answered these questions. I haven't seen those points covered in the other videos I watched.
+Christopher Jones i keep it covered. you can check out the cover in my 2-years later review. for clean up i'll give it a good scraping after each cook; a few times over the season i'll empty it out and spray it down. Thanks for watching !
If u would've used that grill more and cleaned it less you would not have all that rust. A well seasoned grill will not rust on the inside. My grill is also 4 yrs old and looks far better than yours. Love my smoke hollow.

that's good to hear. thank you. and thanks for watching. curious who makes a similar type of grill. it's nice to have a multi-use cooker
@@DrunkenSailorBrewBBQ Pit Boss Memphis Ultimate is pretty close.

Make sure you heavily season the whole thing. I've cooked many a steak on the seerer. Be careful because you can torch a steak pretty quickly.

+Joe Bucci good to hear ! music hasn't gone away. just wanted to get this video out quickly.... awesome that your grill is still working great

good question. yes, it was covered. you can see the cover in the 2-years later review here: ruclips.net/video/mEATsrQTarI/видео.html

+Teri Hall twice/week average is about right. more during the better weather. thanks!

Drunken Sailor Brew & BBQ is the floor in the propane side the same as the charcol side?
no. the charcoal side is solid, with some (9) holes punched in. the drawer slides under it. The gas side "floor" is the drawer itself. Mine is gone now. I got rid of it last year when I bought my Lang. It just wasn't going to survive another season
you saved me from buying this bbq, thank you
Hey I’m having a hard time putting my seer burner in. When you put it together was the seer burner itself already in or did you have to put it in?
The sear burner assembly came in one piece if I remember correctly
Where did you get the parts to overhaul it
Do you think is better than Oklahoma Joes Longhorn combo?
I don't really know enough about Oklahoma Joes to give an honest opinion. The Smoke Hollow worked well for me while it lasted.

would you buy this product again or go with something different now?
At the time & for the price I would buy it again. There's not much left in it now though, and I'll be upgrading soon. Thanks for watching!
Drunken Sailor Brew & BBQ So do u have an upgrade plan or will you be replacing the smoke hollow with another from Sams maybe?
It's going to be replaced. I'm stepping up to American made 1/4" rolled steel.
Do you keep yours outside under a cover or not covered?
It was kept covered & under a roof outside. Thanks !
Mine lasted 2.5 years before it rusted out and the grates fell through.
Mine looks good from the outside. Open the lid and it's rusted through. Ten years old.
That's amazing you got 10 years out of it. You must've taken good care of it, even if rusted out inside. Thanks for watching!
If u would've used that grill more and cleaned it less you would not have all that rust. A well seasoned grill will not rust on the inside. My grill is also 4 yrs old and looks far better than yours. Love my smoke hollow.
if you got this at Sams Club they will return and give you a new one. They have a great return policy and back it
after almost 5 years of use and modifications I doubt it. Thanks for watching !
Mine rusted apart in 3 years.
