Oh there are so many of us. That was a great time in my life. And Jack Black and the Heart Attack is still one of my favorite bands.@@chiefbigskydrinkfirewater5308
This movie was everything to me growing up! I found it randomly in the late 80s in a VHS rental shop and it became an instant classic. I love Jim Carroll and he was so underrated in the punk genre scene and was such an exceptional poet deserving of much more recognition. .

3:32...lead singer is still AWESOME after all these years!!! Jim Carroll may you rest in eternal peace, my friend!!!
I saw the Jim Carroll band, I think after the 2nd record came out, maybe before. It was in a dump of a venue called "Mr C's Rock Palace" around Lowell, MA. The band was late to start, hour and half about. But then the band kicked in, Jim took the stage with long red hair and had the dance floor to himself that he took full advantage of. We are all a bit stunned by the impact after the long wait. They kicked ass. Jim put on a great performance. He was a real talent.
Michael McLoughlin Jim was a friend of mine. But the only time I saw him perform was when he told me he was being introduced by Lou Reed at a concert for MTV at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic N.J. Lou Reed was Jim's friend I think Lou & The rolling stones were probably his biggest influences. Jim closed the show with "People who died"-he blew the roof off the place. The whole crowd went into the street singing "People who died" At breakfast at the luncheonette the next morning he asked me if I liked the show. Of course I did ,everyone there liked that show. I'd never heard of Tuff Turf until seeing this clip This was great "It's too late" a good song. I'll have to check the movie out.RIP Jim-from another Catholic Boy.
This is one of my favorite scenes of this movie, seeing Robert Downey Jr shirtless playing the 🥁 😎🎸🥁, and Jim Carroll rocks ! Great singer, RIP. And Robert Downey still looks hot to me ,he looks the best out of all the actors lol
Gee I didn't know Robert Downey played drums. I'm gonna go get me a headband and some leg warmers, push up the sleeves on my shiny jacket and find a girl with big hair. How did I miss this movie when it came out. This movie is so bad it ought to be required viewing in history classes everywhere
What a weird journey today... I spent the day showing my gf the movie "the secretary" ofc i hadnt realized James Spader was the lead.... then i dug around... found Tuff Turf and then fell in love with this riff.... had no clue if the band was real or not lol and BINGO here I am listening to a song that was played long before i was even born.... Then it hit me.... looking at a young james spader and even younger robert downey ffs if we could just stop aging at 25 or 30 lol
and opened a whole new generation of listeners. I was clued into Carroll by this very movie. And the drummer? Yep, that's Robert Downey Jr. - Iron Man himself.
I’ve been trying hard to find the full soundtrack to this movie, mainly for Marianne Faithful’s ‘Love Hates,’ but no luck so far other than some cracked, used vinyl a guy wants $80 bucks for. I only just discovered this movie about 5 years ago but it’s now in my top 10 favorite movies from the 80’s! Thanks for this great clip.
Michael McLoughlin @anthonyfoutch Yes I was on the same program as Jim.From in the early-mid '80's Then I left for awhile' But I was back in '92-96 when the program had moved 2 blocks north. In Oct. of '96 I was eating breakfast with Jim & others when I told them I was leaving for Pa.In a few days & I'd be back Jan.'97. I am still in Pa. now Life is full of surprises.
All the times in the 80's in which I saw so many Porshes with the top down and the keys left in the ignition....I never went for a joy ride....Gee....those moments of regret......
gimme that car ive always wanted,,, if i ever have enough money il get me one of those,,, even harder to find in the UK,,,, love the film takes me back to my early teens.
Little Robbie Downey was jazzed when Jim Carroll, the coolest, older kid asked if he wanted to play drums for him. Little Robert's Mom didn't like that one bit. She'd always express concern: "I don't want you hanging out with him. He's a bad kid and he's just gonna get you in trouble. You know, he smokes the funny cigarettes, oh yes he does. He's on the pot."
For those who don’t know the lead singer is Jim Carroll author of “The Basketball Diaries” Leo Dicaprio played him in the movie of the same name…… and the drummer?… Couldn’t tell you. He looks familiar though.
I wrote a poem one time about sticking a paper clip in a Porsche and driving south from SF along Highway 1 in the fog. Race you for a pink slip, Spader.
OMG Frankie Frankie....such an inspiration to me. If she smoked 1120's I would have had a cardiac...so fucking hot. Then 30 years later someone tells me about this house wives shit and Kim Richards and I am like WHAT???? OMG, she will always be Frankie to me and this is the only thing I knew of her. So I go from Frankie to seeing this old hag on housewives...OMG, what happened? It's too late literally
This was an excellent 80’s movie! Spader was as good at it as he is now on anything he touches! Tons of stars in this Robert Downey JR ,Kim Richards,Jim Carrol the genius! Jim Carrol Band was a great band!
i read basketball diaries, i like the other jim caroll song about people who died...but never heard of this movie...maybe a good thing.
