i discovered your knitting tutorial and was so sad it wasn’t a crocheting one and now this popped up and i couldn’t be happier about it, thank u sm for the amazing tutorial im making this rn :))
I love this sm! I just added 10 chains and I am really happy with how it turned out. I can't stop crocheting this hat in every single color I have at home now
yep, they're just loops being pulled through other loops. I love knowing how to do both because knitting can be really soft and crochet can be really stiff, makes for a world of possibilities. You can combine the two also, which is fun.
This was my first crochet project! I accidentally bought chunky yarn so I had to modify the pattern but it looks really nice. Mine has a gentle lavender colour :)
Did you succeed to have the short style beanie with the chunky yarn? And what did you change? I'm really interested because I love a more chunky yarn and I want to be sure that can works before buying it. Have a great day
this is the first time I've finished any project more complex than a scarf and, on top of that, my new hat gives me gender euphoria. you're an angel, thank you so much💖
Great video! I have a few friends who like to fish. I am going to have to try this as Christmas gifts. You explained things very well. Please don't take to heart those who made rude comments. you are very talented! God bless! Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi there Ryan, just found you! I'm really enjoying making these - my son and his partner love them. I've done them two each, mustard and forest green 😀 thank you so much x
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it’s the first crochet project I have finished besides granny squares. The hat turned out really good even though I’m pretty sure I messed up on some transitions.
i loved this tutorial!! thank you so much, i am beyond happy with the hat i made with it. i scoured etsy for patterns forever before i found this so youre a lifesaver!
Hi! thank you for your tutorial, which is exactly what I need. I've counted each stich before the marker and after :) and all is fine. As the hat has a lapel, I switched from the wrong side to the right side 5cm before the end of the assembly so that the joint seam would not be visible.
i have been looking for SO long and have never find a pattern for a beanie this length so thank you!!!! i've got some #3 (light worsted?) cotton yarn & am going to try this with that! p.s. im so glad i found your channel! your videos are sick!
I love this tutorial, I tried to make my own but the top part kinda looked like a cone hahaha I think there's something wrong with my tension though. I'll make another one just to be sure,. Thank you so much for explaining it very well and breaking it down for beginners like me to understand :)
It's amazing...thank you for sharing... If you want next time in closing try to take only the one part as you did on the stitch..so the line is not be seen..you do grade job... Keep crocheting
omg ryan TY!!! fall is literally my favorite time of the year, and i’ve decided to make all of the accessories i usually buy, and this is the one i needed the most😭❤️
Im glad you liked it. Hats are an easy cold weather statement piece. Plus if someone asks where you got it you get to tell them you made it and watch them be impressed lol :)
When sewing up the seam if you choose to crochet, to not have the seam showing on the right side, when you reach the cuff fold turn inside out and complete the seam to end. When you turn the cuff up the crochet seam will not show.😊 😊
I'm going to be shaving my head soon and wanted a simple hat to cover for cold and possible insecurity, aha. Thank you for providing this simple pattern! Should it require more than one skein to complete?
Hey that's awesome. I feel like everybody should shave their head at least once. It was always a fear of mine to cut my hair and so shaving it all off was liberating. Plus you don't have to worry about doing your hair for a while which is amazing. You should only need one skien if it's around 250 metres.
Hey great tutorial! Is there a tutorial/pattern for the fisherman hat on a knitting machine? If not, could you do one? I have a sentro - 48. Thank you so much!
Hey glad you liked it. I don't own a knitting machine, so I wouldn't be able to make a pattern for it. I know it would be very different because a knitting machine doesn't have as tight a gauge as this pattern.
Honestly trial and error is key, just try shortening every section by a few stitches and crochet a few rows and measure. If it's off, take a few more away and try again. Don't commit to the whole hat until you're happy with your measurements.
Hi Ryan, I was wondering if the pattern would change if I add more stitches to my chain? Could you help me with this wondering? Thanks so much for your videos and all your info!
Sorry for not getting back to you. You probably don't need to change the crown of the hat if you are making the bottom part longer unless you're making this hat for someone with a very large head, then you might add a stitch or two to each of the sections, but I honestly don't think you would need to.
Hi:) thank you for the tutorial, it´s perfet x I have a question.. If I do it about 10 inches longer, how long should be the crown to work as same as in your version? Same as in the video? Like 5 hdc,5sc,5slp? thank u for your answer
Hi! I love you fisherman beanie and I am making one for my boyfriend! I have a total of 72 stitches because he wears a 7 1/2 size hat. (Please let me know if I measured that right) I left him some room in the count to make sure it wasn’t too tight. I was wondering what would the stitching be for the hat? Like you mapped yours out to 46 then did 5,5,5 then 30 so I was wondering if you could tell me what my directions are! I appreciate it sooo much!!!
The hat is crocheted sideways so the number of sts you start with is actually just the length of the hat. With mine I did 45 sts and my hat is 7.5 inches long already. So you might want to just try that first and do a few rows to see what you think or you can always add 5 extra sts. Less is more. Then you just keeping crocheting until it wraps around the circumference of his head.
Can you crochet a Barclava? Or some type of neck and head cover? What I found on Pinterest was vintage world war era styles. Thank you for your content!
The finished measurements are up to you. You just keep crocheting until it's the desired size. With my pattern I think the hat is 7 inches long uncuffed. It's good to crochet a few rows and measure it just to make sure it's what you want, then you can add or subtract as needed.
I used the same weight yarn and only a smaller hook. My pattern is in the description. You could try that and maybe take off 5 0r 10 extra sts from the bottom.
How am I losing stitches? Something must be happening when I turn my work but I can’t figure out what because it looks like I’m copying you exactly on no :(
Try counting your stitches every row for a while and see if that helps. When someone loses a stitch it's almost always at the beginning or at the end so when you count make sure you get that last St.
People commonly miss the last/first stitch of the row. I've done it myself sometimes. Try counting every stitch of the row for a few rows and see if that's the problem. If that doesn't help, you can send me a pic on instagram and maybe I can figure it out.
Unfortunately it's not possible to knit ribbing sideways. You can knit a simple beanie sideways, I just don't have a pattern for that. I'm sure you can find one on youtube.
No, I realise now that would probably be easier actually if you ended at the cuff, crocheted the side closed and then used the remaining yarn to sew up the top. I just wasn't thinking about it at the time I guess.
Any tips on how to adjust this pattern if I am starting with 40 stitches in my foundation shade instead? I had to do 40 to get the right length since I’m using a 4 mm hook instead of 3.5 😩
I think it would work the same if you just have 25 double crochet and 15 of the smaller ones. You can change the crown but I think it should be fine without alterations.
i am a bit confused- i am not sure how many double crochets to do on the 3rd line? you said finish the d/c and then do 5.Apologies- could you explain xx
Hi, sorry I forgot to put the pattern in the description before I posted it. Every row should be the exact same except for the first round where you single crochet the first ten stitches. Then it turns into 5 slip stitches, 5 single crochet, 5 half double crochet, and then 30 double crochet. Hope that makes sense. It slopes up as the stitches get taller.
Others have done it so I don't see why not. Try 2-3 testing rows and measure it to see how off the numbers are, then you can start over and add more stitches if needed. Maybe try a larger hook as well.
Well I'll say this, crochet might be a little bit faster than knit, but knitting is an older and more common style so many people like it better. It's up to you.
I'm not sure. If the last few stitches were slip stitches at the crown it should be mostly flat. When sewing up the gap I pulled it pretty tight as well. If you want to send a pic to my insta I might be able to troubleshoot.
Thank you for asking! I was scanning the comments before I asked. I have one skein of really nice wool and didn’t want to get 3/4 of the way done and run out!
I used a 3.5mm hook and any medium weight yarn should be fine. I'm not sure what 5 ply amounts to in US terms but you can use anything as long as it's not too thin. You might have to play around with it.

That makes me happy, I'm glad you like it ⭐️
Personally im a knitter and i find it fascinating how different yet similar crochet and knitting actually are
yep, they're just loops being pulled through other loops. I love knowing how to do both because knitting can be really soft and crochet can be really stiff, makes for a world of possibilities. You can combine the two also, which is fun.
5:55 - double half crochet
6:39 - single crochet
7:09 - slip stitches
This was my first crochet project! I accidentally bought chunky yarn so I had to modify the pattern but it looks really nice. Mine has a gentle lavender colour :)

Started this video brilliant but if you go into the back loop instead of the front loop you get a better formation of a rib look. 😊
Cool hat! Thank you for such detailed explanation 🙏

Interesting idea. I've never made a balaclava before. It would probably work better knit not crochet though.
Hey, don't know if I'll ever get around to it but I just saw someone else design one that you might check out. Her name is akcrochets on insta.

@Corduroykidd follow up, I’ve made three of these, and they’re awesome!
@@Bangalangs I'm glad you love them :) You can never have too many hats.
@corduroykidd you aren’t kidding about too many hats. My head is an American XXL hat on the best of days.
Hi Ryan you are very talented ❤️please help how many stitches for a 4 ply yarn crochet 5 for adult💐
I used the same weight yarn and only a smaller hook. My pattern is in the description. You could try that and maybe take off 5 0r 10 extra sts from the bottom.
The yarn in this tutorial looks like a dk weight, but I’ll try it with worsted first, why the small hook size?
Thank you for this video!
Absolutely love this! How much yarn you used?
thanks :) Around 200-250 metres I think.
thank you so much !! 💗
How am I losing stitches? Something must be happening when I turn my work but I can’t figure out what because it looks like I’m copying you exactly on no :(

this was great!
Thanks :)
For thicker yarn same numbers?🙏❤️
It's all trial and error. For thicker yarn you might want to scale down. Just try a few rows and you can always restart without making an entire hat.
sorry, but how many meters you got for this hat?
I used almost 200 meters of yarn.
I tried making this three times but each time the brim comes out uneven :( I can’t figure out why… I’m following the instructions to a T!
It seems to get shorter and shorter. I am so confused!
People commonly miss the last/first stitch of the row. I've done it myself sometimes. Try counting every stitch of the row for a few rows and see if that's the problem. If that doesn't help, you can send me a pic on instagram and maybe I can figure it out.
Can i use this exact method to knitt the hat, because i dont have the circular knitting neadles and m not that expirienced in knitting
Unfortunately it's not possible to knit ribbing sideways. You can knit a simple beanie sideways, I just don't have a pattern for that. I'm sure you can find one on youtube.
Please make a bucket hat tutorial please
You're in luck. I actually already have one up on my channel.
Is it harder to close up the side first then close the top?? IJS
No, I realise now that would probably be easier actually if you ended at the cuff, crocheted the side closed and then used the remaining yarn to sew up the top. I just wasn't thinking about it at the time I guess.
lovely tutorial💛 how much yarn you used?

Qué tengo que hacer para tener subtítulos en español?
Hi! I know that measurements differ but just wanted to know yours. What’s the height of the beanie you made in this video both folded and unfolded?

Hi, how much yarn did you use?
I looked thru other comments because I was wondering the same. They stated almost 200 meters of yarn
which is better in sight, crochet or needles? I can not decide
Well I'll say this, crochet might be a little bit faster than knit, but knitting is an older and more common style so many people like it better. It's up to you.

AAAAA THANK YOU SM ! I REALLY DID IT HAH
good job :)
Hello I want to make this but may I know how much yarn did you use for this hat? Thank you!
took me around 150g :)
Do you know about how much yardage is needed?
less than 250 meters, probably one full skein.
Thanks!
Question for those of you who tried it: How many Gramms of yarn did you need? :)
Hey, I think I used less than 100 grams, one skein should be enough.
@@Corduroykidd thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you for asking! I was scanning the comments before I asked. I have one skein of really nice wool and didn’t want to get 3/4 of the way done and run out!
Hook no ?can i use milk cotton 5ply?
I used a 3.5mm hook and any medium weight yarn should be fine. I'm not sure what 5 ply amounts to in US terms but you can use anything as long as it's not too thin. You might have to play around with it.
Approx how many metres of yarn did you use for a hat that size?
I used around 250 metres I believe.
Hiii! How many grams of yarn should I need for this project?
Depends on the size, but probably about 100-150 grams
Hey! I wanted to know what kind of yarn did u used
This is acrylic worsted weight yarn from knitpicks. It's super soft and not too chunky or stiff.
How many rows did u make:(
Every head is different, but I did around 50 rows.
Right on
Finally!!
could you make a mushroom plushie?
Thanks for the suggestion. That could be cute.
