This Canadian drama is more enjoyable to me than the Eteri drama. Meagan should do singles again. She's said she got all her triples back when Eric was injured. I 100% believe should could be Canadian champ and go to the Olympics. If anyone could make that happen it'd be Meagan Duhamel.
Meagan was a Senior Ladies competitor in Canada prior to pairing with Eric. If memory serves, she was around 4th place at Canadian Nationals.
That’s actually a great idea. Given how weak the ladies field is right now in Canada, it’s the perfect time to do it.

Well I get it now. Yes if I was Megan, I would have felt like I’d been kicked in the stomach by being kept in the dark by her partner like that. Imagine the closeness, the years of training and trusting each other over the years, then feeling a little tossed aside. It hurts.
Meagan was so gracious and honest here. So much respect for her!
Meagan is a class act. Women have everything harder it seems: especially when it comes to juggling family life. I feel horrible for her this all went down this way. BTW, Zoe is a live wire and very very cute.

That’s not Megan’s point though. She didn’t demand an explanation and definitely did not expect to be asked for permission. She has repeatedly said she wants only needed a heads up. It’s not a marriage but they have a public persona as a pair.

@@1chienandalou What isn't clear? You can't argue with facts. You can interpret them however you choose. The fact that you choose to call it "your truth" simply means that it might or might not have anything to do with documented facts.
I totally understand Meagan’s pain...being lied to, or having the truth hidden from you is so deeply upsetting. You wonder... why was I not considered worthy by this person to be told the truth?

The whole thing would be painful to Meagan even if Eric had told her privately, ahead of time, that he had asked Vanessa to compete with him this coming season. What you have is your old partner basically saying that he doesn't want to compete with you. Its rejection anyway you put it, and nobody likes that. I'd like to say, though, that the only problem I have with all of this is the fact that Eric didn't talk to Megan ahead of time. The two of them hadn't competed for 3 years, so I don't think that it's some huge betrayal for Eric to want to compete with someone else. I have strong opinions about the Vanessa / Morgan situation, and I'm going to leave that out of this discussion.

Interesting... My interpretation there, though, was that she was saying her injuries did not keep them out of those tours-rather than that she never had injuries. Subtle differences, for sure, but probably consequential in the current context. [I don’t know factually whether she sustained injuries that prevented them from going on tours, so maybe you know better than I.]

I don’t understand why these two guys would expect Vanessa to talk about Morgan’s problems. She is a very discreet and polite person and none the less, is not her story to tell. On top of this there are probably other legal issues that she cannot mention. Anyway why do we throw this over her while she wasn’t the one charged. But you always have to create drama about everything. Big dislike guys, for your snarky comments about Morgan’s support to the new partnership. What is wrong with that? When supporting somebody became a negative thing? He made a mistake, he paid the price, case closed.
I don’t get why the hosts of this video expect Vanessa to trash Morgan, when and the career they had together??

Vanessa and Morgan had an amazing chemistry, that in my opinion Meghan and Eric never had. Therefore I hope in this new partnership Eric will have to chance to skate with a partner which fits him better.

You don't trash people with whom you have had a long-term association, friendship, or relationship of any kind...besides that, probably none of us knows the whole truth, so we should just keep negative thoughts to ourselves. We certainly would not want to take the liberty of suggesting how someone else should feel, react, or respond.
I do agree with you completely after all Vanessa and Morgan were like twins I should say, being together for 9 or 10 years o a lot of time to get to know each other and who knows they probably even developed love and respect to one another. Anyway, V n M are still the best pairs in figure skating ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@lynnecorrales7136 Lyne not probably developed love and respect for each other ..They did have love and respect for each other. These are in Vanessa's own words about her and Morgan love and respect for each other which she posted on the front of her and Morgan's joint Instagram in 2018. That post has not been removed despite their partnership ending since September 2020.
Although Vanessa and Morgan's 2 years romantic relationship ended 6 years ago Vanessa stated in 2015 that they still cared for each other and stll has a close relationship.
After a meaningful relationship and friendship spanning 10 years it's not that easy for anyone to untangle oneself and turn your back on the person that has been such a major part of your daily life.
I wish Vanessa success going forward in all aspects of her life and the same to Morgan
@@lynnecorrales7136 they really had something special, but it is as it is, and I deeply support Vanessa for her courage to take it from scratches and be under so much scrutiny from people that instead of just enjoying that the skaters still strive for achievements, while creating something magical for the viewers.

“You know” spoke volumes about how not sexist Eric is. The fact that he was raised by a working mother does not exclude the possibility he might feel resentment towards mothers, kids or someone standing in the way of his ego. There are a lot of male skaters who could have switched partners when their partner started a family, somehow they compromised. Thank you Meghan for bringing this up! Contract should bind both parties, as well as it would be nice for coaches like Eteri or Hamada to feel safe and secure, sending her students to her shows without expecting poaching from former athletes playing coaches.

My skating lesson of the week is how pleasantly surprised I was to learn what a sweet and shy but with a good sense of humor character Sergei Dudakov is)). I used to think of him as this quiet emotionless trainer, but now I see him as the warm figure Eteri's skaters go to when feeling down. No wonder he is the one who was with Anna at the team event, she looked happier with him by her side than Eteri or even DannyG)).
He’s apparently all of the girls favourite and like a father figure at the rink to them

Would bet money that the international skating federation leadership and/or Canadian skating leadership cautioned Eric and Vanessa about discussing their plans until 100% approved. The leadership is probably glad to have the drama to create publicity.

@@marijasapovalova7420 James/Radford aren't going to medal. Both are in their mid 30s and the top 4 from Worlds are already established as the main contenders for the Games. It is simple a precursor to a show career.
I really don’t understand why Meghan is so surprised that Eric wanted to compete again and that he did not waited for her. He has a certain age, so for him 6 months make a real difference, especially considering the lost year of 2020 due to Covid.
On the other hand, Eric could have been more transparent with Meghan, but this doesn’t make him a sexist.
In the end is ok not to settle just for shows.
As for the people making assumptions, that happens anytime, anywhere. I saw the first interview with Eric and Vanessa and my takeaway wasn’t that Meghan might be pregnant nor stoping skating. The only message you can pick up is that right now, Meghan is not 100% available for the competition life, due to the changes in her life, which are more than ok. However you cannot expect your partner waiting for your until you are ready for a new chapter, cause for him might be too late.
Why should we turn this into a negative thing?
I understand that Meghan feels hurt, but she is looking only from her angle, but in a pair also the partner has the right to look for something else.
Wasn’t nice from Meghan to say that she and Eric could have had lots of opportunities together, especially because they are Olympic medalists. Vanessa is also an Olympic medalist and she isn’t a wannabe, she is a champion, who right now is maybe in a similar stage with Eric.
I am sure that they will make a great team! I am very happy for this new pair.

Eric choosing to keep multiple options open would have been fine if it were NOT at the expense of misleading Meagan and taking away HER ability to make her own plans for months. That's fleecing someone you are in business with - you can get ahead and have all the advantages without taking any risks. It's poorly done from a personal AND business relationships standpoint. And now it's clear there has been repeated patterns over years of him attempting this. Very yikes. His excuses doesn't make sense because he was simply dishonest.
Bettering yourself and asserting your autonomy at the expense of your partner and treating your partner as an option/stepladder instead of someone with thoughts, feelings, reputation, right to autonomy in one's career, is an uneven, sexist act.. but we will all say that louder for everyone but the ones closest to us. It's not just Eric though, everyone directly involved from a business standpoint could have done better to have insisted on having all cards on the table, at the very least it would have saved the PR.
I'm a bit surprised that written contracts aren't the norm given this seems like a precarious livelihood.

did it ever occur to you that his ability to make plans regarding his own livelihood depended on her for the 3+ years they were retired? there are many 'shows' that people keep talking about that he wanted to do that she wouldn't commit to. knowing the whole story is so super helpful.

Glad to see Meagan on here again. Feel so bad for her. Eric was very disrespectful to her. So much could have been avoided if he’d just been honest with her about the situation from the beginning but it seems she was more loyal to him than he ever was to her. I have so much respect for her for not lashing out and just keeping calm and honest. I wouldn’t have been so nice.

Japanese skaters reveal their new programs in summer shows often before they are “baked”. It’s kind of how they do it - as a treat for the fans and also just to start working them in from of an audience.
I appreciated Meagan’s honesty and candor here!
What I can't figure out is how on earth Skate Canada was not ahead of this trainwreck of an announcement. Like don't they have a media team who thought maybe we should make sure we have Meagan on bord ahead of the announcement? And maybe have a strategy to address the whole Cipres skeleton in Vanessa's closet?
They did have a strategy regarding Cipres, which was to mention her being "blindsided" in the press release and then hope that was the end of it (that part seems to have worked reasonably well, at least for now). Regarding Meagan, once Eric burned that particular bridge, they probably didn't have any great options.
SC was too busy dealing with the train wreck at WTT.
I really like Meghan and understand her “truth”, but it also seems that drama follows her. She has had coaching issues that made her stop, she has a tiff with Trankov, an issue with her sister in law, and now the big one with her Eric Radford. Obviously upfront communication is the key to all relationships, but I’m curious what her contribution is to all the drama.

She’s hurt and I get it. I would be too. That said, we really need to dispense with this concept of “your truth.” There is no “my truth” or “your truth.” There is only the truth, and we can all feel however we want about it. Also it’s inconceivable that her husband didn’t know but I’m sure he knew she was going to be very upset regardless of when/how she was told.

@@lyragill3395 correct, so she isn’t telling her truth, she’s telling her opinion and feelings about the agreed upon facts. On the points where the “facts” do actually differ between them (and I haven’t read either of their statements so I have no idea what he said about her wanting to extend her family, etc.) there is still only one truth-either she’d told him she wanted to extend her family or she hadn’t. Either he told the truth or he didn’t.
She made it very clear what she knew and what she didn't and when. I'm not really sure what other people wanted. I'm sure most would be a lot less gracious about this if not only their partner hid something so important from them, but also members of their own family. This isn't a trivial matter you guys. This definitely affects her life. I mean, she even suggested in this interview that she may reconsider having another child now.
I can't believe people expect her to get royally screwed over and just take it with a smile on her face. Wtf?

She is hurt we get it, she has the right to express her feelings and is entitled to have an opinion. That being said - She prioritized her needs so do Eric and that’s called life. Now can you ask Eric for his side of the story and talk about that now Canada has a real chance for an Olympic medal?
Eric and Vanessa are not going to win anything remarkable. They are not as artistic as they think they are and technically the chinese and russians are way above them. They can try to beat Knieram/ Frasier but that's all xdddd
There is always mutuality. Meagan is seeking to be respected by Eric and is demanding that the history of their partnership be held to a high standard, but it seems by discussing this issue in public instead of resolving the miscommunication/misunderstanding in private she is not being respectful to the history of the partnership. Listening to this, I am not sure what it is that she is advocating for, or even what is it that she wants.
I see why other skaters didn't care for her she might be a good skater but her personality Sucks !
I feel really bad for Meagan. To me, it's clear she was wronged by her ex-partner's lack of transparency.
But I continue to love her and will watch anything she does on TSL.

I still don't understand why we have this drama. Megan and Eric retired. She's moved on to a new city where she would be coaching. He's left without much of an option other than to find a more stable skating arrangement. Yes, he could have communicated beforehand, but to call this a betrayal in public is a little much. Clearly her opinion. A dramatic one at that. And dramatic people can be hard to communicate with because their reaction is disproportionate to the problem.
He kept his options open. Meagan and Eric were planning to go on tour, but while talks of this were going on, he was already training with Vanessa. Anyone would be upset if a large source of income suddenly went down the drain. Too dramatic? I don't think so.
@@MC-pm3gp I agree that the communication wasn't great, but they are allowed to explore options. Megan kept harping on getting a contract, but usually that stipulates providing a certain number of weeks of notice before a change, which Eric did provide. I don't see how it could have been different with a contract, but she made it seem like he acted in bad faith within their business partnership by emphasizing the need for a contract multiple times.
It’s embarrassing to be the last to know. He handled it in the worst possible way. That’s what the big problem was. If he had told her ahead of time he decided to go in a different direction and she didn’t find out everyone around her knew for months it would have been a different situation for her.

Whether as a guest on an interview show or providing commentary on skating events, Meagan always provides accurate, true and meaningful insight when speaking ! I sincerely feel Meagan got screwed in this situation. Eric’s statement about more opportunities with Vanessa makes no sense, since Meagan is the World Champion and Olympic Medalist, together with Eric. I truly believe Skate Canada is behind some of the secrecy and maybe even behind the pairing itself. Canada basically has no hopes for any medal at the Olympics, and I wouldn’t put it past Skate Canada to pull off something sneaky,,,,it wouldn’t be the first time. I love listening to Meagan speak and would LOVE to see her providing commentary for all major events !! Great advice,,, Contracts, Contracts, Contracts !!! 👏

Yes, Dave didn’t like Energia for some reason, but Jonathan liked it. I think Jonathan is a bit more open to non-traditional styles and music than Dave is.

Whoa, did not see the new pairing of Vanessa James with Eric Radford coming. I felt sad that Vanessa retired; she was one of the pair skaters I liked to watch. But now, it looks like the road to Beijing 2022 is not so easily read. While I'm glad that James has come back to competition, who knows if she and Radford will even make it to the Olympics, let alone podium with Sui/Han and one of the Russian pairs. The way I see it, James/Radford and Knierim/Frazier could be top 10 skaters at Worlds and/or Olympics, but not beat Sui/Han, Peng/Jin or the young Russian teams. I'll be watching this pairing closely.
Tutberidze coaching Tarasova/Morozov? Interesting. Who knows if she can get these two to get back on the podium in the coming season. Shoma doing Bolero made me roll my eyes. Valieva and him? Torvill/Dean and Carolina Kostner owned that music; Valieva and Shoma Uno doing it feels like cheap knock-offs. I think Shoma can do better, but if he doesn't want Olympic/World gold, oh well. I hope Wakaba Higuchi can get her 3A stable and make it to the Olympics.

Zoe is adorable! And Meagan is always a great guest on TSL, I thoroughly appreciate the work you guys do to keep us all in the loop! Also I think the fact that you two and Meagan don't always agree is what makes her such an interesting guest, I appreciate both your and her outspokenness. Personally, I agree with the two of you 90-95% of the time but I don't want to only watch your show for validation of my own opinions.

At the end for me it's all about judgement of character. Pair skaters search for partners all the time and in Eric's case, he is free to do as he please. Meagan too is also entitled to her own feeling, she has been partnering with Eric for more than 10 years so personally if it happened to me, I would be upset as well. Eric should be upfront with Meagan about wanting to return to competitive skating and searching for partner and I think she deserved being told that. I'm disappointed that Eric didn't do that but I think that's all, only a small mistake and hopefully he learns his mistake.
Now about this new team while I think it's going to be very difficult to support & root this team, in my opinion Vanessa and Eric looked proportionally compatible. Meagan and Eric were clashing in style of skating (IMHO) and the stark height difference sometimes was distracting as well. Vanessa and Eric to me are more complete. But realistically, what is the objective of this new team? Getting in the Olympic team? Winning a medal? Will they continue after Olympic? How many years are they planning to compete together? Eric is 36 years old and not that young anymore. He had injuries before and now he will need to lift and throw taller girl too. Is this going to be long lasting or short term? Because in my opinion, they have burned many bridges in order to get this team going and for just 1 - 2 seasons, will it worth it?
Is there hope for me? My age is less that the sum of Vanessa's and Eric's (not by much though).
Who is bank rolling this new team?
Obviously they believe it's worth it. All I know is that we shouldn't prejudge them. Life is like a box of chocolates.
I agree that Vanessa and Morgan were "scratchy" (as Dave put it) on the ice, but they had so much chemistry. There are very few pairs or ice dance teams around that have that, and I'm hoping that Vanessa and Eric will. They're both tall long-legged, and beautiful. Let's hope it works out in the end.

I love TSL, however.. It would have been interesting to hear your thoughts on the James and Radford partnership without Duhamel being the center of the attention. I get that she’s often on this show, but that’s even more of a reason to analyze from a distance to avoid getting into a limited perspective on this particular subject.

her only side was that her partner was planning a competitive and professional career at the same time and not being transparent about it. She literally was like, “totally respect his agency to be his own person and be in charge of his life, just wish he would have given me a heads up where it concerned me.” How on earth can anyone take issue to that? At that point it’s her business as well since one is generally not able to train for an Olympic team and tour in Japan at the same time.
This is the issue with pairs and dance. The men are treated as gods that the women have to bow down to and hope they are good enough for the man to skate with him. Meagan couldn’t have been more respectful.
I hope more than having contracts in pairs and dance, that the culture changes. These men skaters are being bought in certain cases, like the US, and sent to the highest bidder to skate with a woman. There is rampant abuse in these situations often stemming from a power dynamic and in lower levels, an age and power difference.
We are in a situation where some people are blaming Meagan for this or accusing her of being too dramatic, having too many opinions about this or being unreliable. As someone with a psych background (PhD and MS in sports psych), she is the most mature, emotionally healthy and real athlete in not just this situation but in general. She has likely (have no idea) done a lot of work on herself and/or has had amazing parents that have given her such a strong base.
Well maybe i wasnt totally clear...i think that she was to dramatic with the original response and did not add anything new with this interview.
I’m not saying that she is wrong or she is lying , but after reading Eric and Vanessa response i kind understand their perspective.
She tend ls to be a little too abrasive with the argument and some things does not sound right to me:
- Julie Marcotte is their coach and her OWN sister in law. Bruno being so influent in Skate canada did not know all this time ( Meagan stated that the practices started several months ago)...
- Skate canada did not ask a statement about the new pair???

I disagree that Meagan is dramatic in any way, especially for skaters who are usually extra dramatic. I agree in how people can perceive her as abrasive although I prefer the style as I clearly understand her point of view.
In terms of family, families F over each other all the time. There’s been no claim that Meagan knew because of Julie. It very much appears Meagans emotions and thoughts are fresh. Someone who has known this for months would very likely be over this. It would also he easy to prove it with the SOI contracts. If Meagan knew, why she go forward in having to figure out the mess with the shows?
Bruno may have influence in skate Canada, sure. But again, that doesn’t mean this wasn’t kept quiet until it was official. What motivation would
SC have to tell Bruno and Meagan? SC needs more pair teams. This solves a problem. Bruno could have gotten involved to try and stop it. Why would they risk that? Vanessa’s release from France was the fastest we’ve seen. There were many people who helped do this quickly and I’m sure SC didn’t want extra people in the way to potentially mess it up.
That’s just my thought though.
Meaghan is amazing. Wicked smart! I could listen to her all day. I'm also looking forward seeing Vanessa and Eric skate. That's a super exciting development.
On another note that sound of silence routine and performance was the only 'moment' I have had from a pairs team since Gordeeva and Grinkov. Utterly brilliant. What a shame he behaved the way he did.
Meagan is so articulate. But many are talking about Eric and Meagan's conduct. I think the one who should be really examined (but isn't because she is not exactly a major player comparatively) Julie Marcotte. How in the world does Meagan's sister in law, in the business, having worked with Meagan before not mention anything about coaching Eric and Vanessa. It seems like in life everyone has their own personal interest/goals/desires - money, fame, career whatever. Sadly it often conflicts with others interests whether it be skating shows, olympic spots or whatever. What a mess. I keep thinking of that song from the Greatest Showman sung by though of course Jonathon - Never Enough. Aliona, Eric, Alexa... everyone wants more. Jonathon probably wants another vase. Dave another fab turtleneck. Never Enough!

If the sister in law knows about her partner skating with another partner, it would not be appropriate to tell her family member before Eric was ready. That is Eric’s job to tell Meagan.

I can honestly see both sides of the situation and she does have the right to be upset. However, I find it hard to believe that there were absolutely no signs at all that he was distancing himself and possibly looking for a new partner and that this was totally a completely blindsided type of thing. I’m not finished watching yet but if her main problem is him not contacting her beforehand why blast him publicly instead of telling him personally how you feel? I find her response to this just as childish as him not telling her he was switching partners if that’s the case.
i wonder, how do you publicly blast your ex-partner and your (not yet ex) sister-in-law, insist you have every right to do so and NOT consider this selfish, whereas when your partner waits for Vanessa's clearance (=his plan to be finalized) before announcing it to you, that's selfish af.

I'm glad that they mentioned the fact that because Karen Chen got fourth place and got the US women three places at the Olympics, that doesn't mean that she automatically gets one of those places. She has to earn her place just like the other women do after next season's competitions.

@@insi4547 so are you stating that in whatever line of work you do, that if an incident that bothered you at work, that you wouldn’t go ask your colleagues? People do this to see if their feelings are unreasonable and/or to compare experiences. It’s a pretty normal human response. Sometimes, people who aren’t used to being emotional experience big feelings and want to see if others would feel the same way as they do. Not really sure who else Meagan would have spoken with about it as skating is a small community. The other people that may have been helpful would be a counselor, if she sees one and her husband, who would likely have supported her feelings regardless.
She’s stating that yes it’s a free world and each person has their own free will. She is just encouraging transparency and setting up partnerships better in the future. How does the world center around her? Many people support transparency and a culture change in pairs and dance. People can support that and still support a new pair team. The two do have to be polar opposites.
Also, there is going to be a bad PR cloud over the new team, regardless of how much people do or don’t want to see them skate. They approached it on a completely unprofessional manner from both sides. If the skaters were just following legal or professional advice to have things unfold the way they did, well, then they should have considered how that would have looked and affected them since their thought was that Eric would have had more opportunities with Vanessa than Meagan.
Speaking your mind and asking for change means that you want to make meaningful change to something that’s of huge importance to you. It doesn’t mean you feel the world revolves around you. In fact, if you listen to her, she’s speaking out because, for her, it’s the opposite. She’s learning to use her voice and challenge for positive change as she’s been in a male dominated sport and has instances in her life where she’s been silenced. So now when she had learned to be strong enough and speak up, people try to silence her again or make her think her opinions aren’t valid? Y’all are trolls.

I just watched this video on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023. I am a huge fan of Mogan's & Vanessa's skating, and am so sorry for all involved concerning the scandal & sorry that the skating partnership ended. Eric & Vanessa did not achieve all I had hoped for, but, nevertheless, I saw a couple of performances that were very beautiful and moving. I did not see either of their programs at the 2022 Worlds. Would you happen to know if those performances are available for viewing somewhere? Thank you for all you have already made available to figure skating fans. You are a treasure!
