I've got a 2022 LT-1 6-speed manual with about 1100 miles on it. Great car and no problems so far. Interior quality could be better, lots of cheap plastic that buzzes when cold. But I wouldn't ever think of getting rid of it, even with ridiculous $5+ a gallon gas prices that are still climbing out of control.
Flex fuel kit with a tune adds about 40 hp with e85. It’s a bit cheaper running e85 than it is to run 93 even after taking into consideration that e85 burns about 30% faster.

Great commentary on your Camaro. Really enjoy hearing from owners of cars as only they really get to know the pluses and minuses. That blue color is awesome.
That "squeek" I am almost sure is coming from the little flap in the exhaust stream just before the muffler. It's there to reduce that "drone" sound when in v4 mode. I slapped some grease on mine.
2020 LT1 with 21,000 miles. So far so good, for the most part. I bought some wider wheels and tires as the 245's weren't cutting it. The LT1 has a weird hub size that doesn't fit with many aftermarket wheels, and you may need a hub centric spacer if you go that route.

I'm at just over 1,000 miles in my LT1. I don't see any "puff" in the roof when I close the door. I too, love the performance and NPP exhaust, especially the popping and crackling when slowing down in a lower gear (6-speed). Averaging 22 MPG in mostly suburban/city driving with a bit of tom-foolery here and there but nothing crazy and NO burn-outs. Seat was very comfy on my one interstate 100-mile ride. I did have just one short little stoplight race with a Maserati Quadroporte though, hit it after easing off the line then stomping it and slamming second then slowing down. We drove my dads shadow grey 2021 LT1 (with the 10 speed) to the beach to help my aunt about a year ago and it probably didn’t have 5,000 miles on it I think and the car said we were averaging 34.3 MPG about a 4 hour trip each way
My Camaro is too old to have the v4 v8 switch but I would definitely switch off that with a tuner if I got one it seems to always cause more problems than it’s worth
Found you channel looking up ND2 Miata videos. A few questions, why the Camaro rather than C7 Corvette (Z51/Grandsport)? What made you leave the ND2? Do you do any HPDE or autocross?
I am coming up on 5,000 on my LT1 and I am the same as you. Love it more as time goes on! I will have to keep watch for that sound when it switches to 4 cylinder mode. Great video and thank you! Camaro Forever!
Just hit 18k on my '21 LT1 and have only had issues with the most recent ota update frying the system. GM wasn't able to fix it over the air and OnStar wouldn't work (however they called me immediately on my cell). I had to wait 5 days just to get it into the dealer. The dealer couldn't flash the system so it had to be replaced....under warranty, thankfully. The tech issue really makes me nervous about future issues as things age. The engine and A10 transmission are still smooth and flawless. I also love the car more than when I first got it.
It's so funny that you mention the Porsche boxster comparison. My father owns a 1st gen boxster and loves it and after test driving a 981 boxster S I agree with you that it's a brilliant machine that can make ANYONE look like they're a professional with a cold straight face on it the entire time, where as the LT1 I test drove a couple of days ago(and am currently in the process of convincing my wife is a moderately reasonable decision XD) has far more personality, which is what I'm looking for. this Porschephile might end up having to go pony car to have some fun. Also Nice GLA, I've got a GLE myself :D
The Camaro is an interesting case. I really think it drives and handles like a smaller genuine sports car. In fact, the four cylinder version I would put up against the BRZ or Toyota 86. I'm just over 6 ft 1 so I find the cabin somewhat claustrophobic but I rented one and got used to it after a few hours. Like you, I think it handles great and is nimble and fun to drive but the interior materials seem to me to be about two generations behind the current state of the art even for domestic cars. A 4 cylinder manual transmission convertible Camaro can be had for around $36,000 which to me is a great bargain and maybe worth putting up with some of the quality concerns. I am still on the fence so I appreciate your updates and wish you the best of luck with your Camaro
Great video, James. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I have yet to be able to test drive a Camaro, because dealerships have not been able to keep them on the lot long enough. I am trying to figure out how I might fit. We look similar in size. Hope you keep enjoying your ride and thanks for the content.
I'm thinking of ordering like yours. But I've been told you have to find a dealer that actually has an open slot for a Camaro build and that could take months, as in many to find one. Also, did your dealer add any ADM, sell at MSRP or give you any discount?
@@michelfortier9563 Yes its true atleast to my knowledge you need a spot. I was 3 days late of the deadline to order a 2022. So I was relatively new to the list. My dealership said anywhere from 6-12 months wait time. I bought several cars from my dealership so they gave me a ton of discounts and rebates to reduce the cost.
Fellow LT1 owner, estimating I'll get 15-18K out of the stock tires. I don't drive aggressively but most of the miles are NorCal twisties, sometimes salted mountain passes, so that might be more wear. No engine squeaks/jerks but I do hear the V4/V8 transition gasp/fart sound at times. Mediocre panel fitment, both doors have rub marks towards the rear of the sidesills and will prly break thru the paint eventually over the years. Wireless Android Auto does have drops and glitches, wired is OK, tested on multiple phones. Brake bite feels kinda weak (maybe a problem with just my car), and this is compared to 10+ 4cyl/V6/2SS Camaros I've driven extensively. Overall still worth it as a fun daily with good noise.
Great video! I like the way you state everything in a nice order. I just pre-ordered an LT1 that is waiting for dispatch so I have talked about Camaro with my friends who I used to track together. All of them suggested that I should not deactivate cylinders as it will not significantly improve fuel efficiency as well as "harm" the engine. I have also heard a lot of fellows in Camaro6 talking about getting new rims since the stock is too narrow for 455 torque, which is what I am planning to do. Seeing you have driven the stock LT1 for 10k miles, I would like to know how good is the grip with the stock setting?
Hi Kevin, thanks for the kind words! If you want better performance you’ll definitely want to get new wheels and tires. For the street, I love that it’s very easy to break traction a bit when it’s safe to do so, like accelerating onto a freeway on ramp or taking a left turn quickly when no one else is around. Since I prioritize entertainment at lower speeds, the stock wheels and tires work well for me!
Appreciate your videos and honest assessment. I've had a 2022(3?) LT1 on order for a couple of months now, not too different from yours. Kinda curious as to how religious you were on following the "break in" that so many owners talk about. I'm also curious about your thoughts of doing more aggressive driving with this package, in particular, would you autocross this car?
Hi Cameron! Admittedly, I was not strict about specific steps for breaking in my car. For the first ~1000 miles, I just generally tried not to rev it out too close to redline and also avoided keeping it at constant vehicle / engine speed for extended periods. I probably should have clarified in the video that the breaking in I referred to was just the vehicle settling itself in despite the lack of strict procedures on my part. For aggressive driving, the main limitation of the LT1 is its limited ability to deal with heat. The SS or ZL1 models have better heat management and would be more of a match for HPDEs. For spirited street driving and autocross you should have no problems running the LT1 stock. For autocross, over time as you learn the limits, you'll probably want to change out the tires/wheels for more grip. Hope that helps, and I'm excited for you to get yours!
@@JamesPlaysWithCars Me too! Hopefully GM picks up the order soon. I know it's gonna be a struggle to exercise restraint at first in a vehicle designed to be pushed. Also, very interesting bits about the sheetmetal. I wonder if that is GM engineers pushing the weight loss they bragged about in 2016 too far. Anyhoot, looking forward to your next installment!
I have a 21 camaro LT1, so far the only problem I really have is the AFM valve squeezing but that will be fixed when I get my cat back, but other than that it’s been a fantastic experience
Hi James! I own a 2019 Camaro V6 with the RS package. I love mine! It's the only car I've ever owned that I'm still as excited to get into as the day I bought it. The LT1 wasn't around that year and the V8 was pretty big jump in price at that time so I went with the V6. Happy I have the RS package and also the technology package (the larger screen and Bose speakers are nice!) I wish I had the wireless Apple Car play though! I still have to plug mine in. I can't speak for what you have been experiencing with the V8 engine but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary switching from 6 to 4 in mine. I checked the roof thing too on mine but didn't see that happen although I have a sunroof so maybe that makes a difference? The seat thing is odd though. It looks like we have the same seats but mine look fine. I love the color you picked! I'm anxious to hear future updates on how your ownership is going!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Scott! Yes, usually roof sheet metal is sturdier when there’s a sunroof because with a sunroof, there’s more mechanical stuff under the sheet metal, so more of it is supported from underneath. I’ll do a review on a wireless CarPlay adapter soon, so hopefully that will be helpful!
Im assuming you have the LT1 engine. The break-in period is actually in your manual on Pg. 199. It states not to brake hard, vary RPMs but do not exceed 4000 (so try not to cruise at the same RPM for too long.), don’t “lug” the engine or accelerate hard at really high gears (which would only be possible I imagine in manual mode), and don’t go above 80 MPH. I also got my first oil change very early (somewhere between 500-1000 miles)but it does not state that in the manual. Hope this helps!
Great review video! I have the same “jerk” when the AFM switches from 4 to 8. Almost feels like the same jerk when starting the car but a little less intense. Overall I love my 2021 SS 1LE! There is some misalignment of the front fascia that is only noticeable up close. I have also started to notice some interior components getting noisy, probably because they are expanding and moving with it getting hotter.
I just passed 13,000 Miles in my LT1. My tires have not lasted as long, but that comes down more to driving style. Overall I love the car, its my daily driver. I've gotten 30mpg on the hwy. Its very civilized and comfortable if you are driving normally. Steering and handling are excellent. Braking is good too. Really no qualms with the performance. So much fun to embarrass Porsche and AMG drivers. However the stock tires are dangerous if you drive with ESP off and aren't used to driving a high HP RWD car. I have not had either of the engine sounds you mentioned. I had a 'break in' oil change and diff fluid change at 2000 miles, and another oil change around 9,000 so maybe this has to do with why I don't have an issue. I agree the paint is thin and the sheet metal does not feel 'solid'. My 13 year old BMW M3 is better in this regard. However considering the car's price point and performance I think this is acceptable.
Question how has the visibility been for you especially coming from a BMW? I have a 340i currently and thinking of getting a 23' LT1 manual since theyre a great bargain.
@DippinItUp1 the visibility and usability of the camaro is much worse than the 3 series platform. I don't mind the lack of viability you get used to it but the lack of storage , usable rear seats , and small truck opening should be considered before getting to car. Don't buy it without sitting in the car and seeing if it's for you. Compared to a 3 series the pros are that it's a much more aggressive driving position and overall a more fun car. But if you don't have a second car for family , clients really make sure it fits your lifestyle.
I got my Camaro LT1 3 months ago and very much luv it looks exactly like yours I just have the ambient lighting n Technology package with it and no spoiler made RUclips vid bout it
i prefer the v6 style front grille to the ss style. so this lt1 with the 6.2l v8 is the best of both worlds to me. too bad 2020 was the only year with that dark green color
Great videos - Would you buy it again, given the concerns regarding paint and funny engine noises? Question #2 - did Chevy ever address the funny noises the engine makes?
Hi Chris! I probably would buy again despite these issues, because I don't keep cars for very long. If you own one of these Camaros out of warranty, then that might be a little more stressful. I haven't brought the engine noise to the dealer's attention, mainly because I've been busy with work and other life priorities, and the engine issue isn't super urgent yet--the powertrain will continue to be under warranty, and I can wait till it gets louder / more obvious before bringing it to the service dept.
@@JamesPlaysWithCars Thanks James, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. After trying to find more info on the car I do recall someone mentioning an odd noise upon cylinder deactivation. Perhaps it's just a noise common with this engine. 🤞

@@JamesPlaysWithCars I mean, any car after 10K should be just like brand new, don't you think? Not trying to be a dick or anything, just saying. I'm curious what issues other's are having. It's a very fun car to drive, once you get used to the limited vision.
Nah, I had an 1SS and now an LT1, and I had some similar issues. That paint is terrible lol. My wife bumped the door, immediate dent, required dealership repair. Paint chips everywhere and I sold it before 10k miles. That’s just GM.
Hi Michael, in your experience did the throttle response become noticeably better with AFM disabled? Some people say the change in throttle response is night and day, and I'd like to hear your experience as well.

My cars parked outside kept getting hit by careless drivers, so I made the decision to consolidate to one car for me and one for my wife. Between Miata and Camaro: The Miata is an amazing weekend car that can do daily duty. Camaro is an awesome daily car that can do weekend duty. In the end, the Camaro made more sense as my everyday car, and I now use Turo to rent a Miata or other manual car whenever I feel like it! 👍🏼
Why in the world would you buy an automatic V8 Camaro?? Kinda missing the point of a driver focused, fun muscle/sports car. Manuals are so much more involving, engaging and fun to drive. SaveTheManuals.
@@JamesPlaysWithCars 👍👍 I really like the new Corvette Z06 with its high revving naturally aspirated engine, sounds like a Ferrari and I would buy one if it came with a manual. All new cars have paper thin metal which is a joke, Seeing the doors sill higher than the shoulder is a huge turnoff to me. WHy chevy never fixed that says they could care less ought to be able to rest your arm on the windowsill. Always loved Camaros for decades but without a decent engine I wouldnt look at them twice.
I own a black 2020 LT1 manual trans with 6,500 miles on it. Adhered to break in procedures. No funny noises, mechanical issues or mechanical concerns at all. Only minor mods so far which are CAI, axle back exhaust, rear spoiler, and skip shift eliminator. However! The first rock chip was in the first few hundred miles therefore quickly got the car partially clear wrapped after seeing how easily and quickly it happened. The clear coat is very thin and super hard to work with. This is especially noticeable in black. When you (lightly) polish the car use a more protective, longer lasting polish which does help in maintenance washes for a while. But those scuffs you are seeing will happen and a partial clear wrap will help save the paint in most cases. I realize we will still have to baby this paint no matter what. Everything else has been very very good! The same as you, I really enjoy learning the car as time goes on. So damn capable for the street and gets plenty of attention!

Found you channel looking up ND2 Miata videos. A few questions, why the Camaro rather than C7 Corvette (Z51/Grandsport)? What made you leave the ND2? Do you do any HPDE or autocross?
Just put a deposit on a 2021 RS… trading in my Subaru can’t wait to pick it up! Thank for a great video
The GM infotainment is good lol me being a GM tech I'm here to tell you your one of the lucky ones to not have a problem lol
Great video...subbed. Just did the paperwork for a 22 summit white lt1. Can't wait to get it.
I’m excited for you!! Cheers
going on 2 yrs for my zl1. yes,i fucking love it lol. buying tires and gas sucks but everything is expensive right now. but i own it so im gtg.
I have the 4 cylinder with a few mods it rips bro
Great video, James. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I have yet to be able to test drive a Camaro, because dealerships have not been able to keep them on the lot long enough. I am trying to figure out how I might fit. We look similar in size. Hope you keep enjoying your ride and thanks for the content.
That squeak and clack has me concerned too...
Get it tuned and remove the v4 mode thats what i did
Just ordered my 2023 LT1 RS. Very happy with the update! Thank you! You have a new subscriber 😁
I got a 2022 lt1 with 27K miles and I’ve dawged tf out of it I haven’t had any problems out of it. I’m looking at the 2023 2Ss though
Thanks for sharing your experience, with the good and the bad! That’s helpful for everyone to know
Great video!
@@JamesPlaysWithCars Thanks! That’s really helpful!
Thanks for the update
I had limp mode (4 cyl) turned off when I had E85 added and tuned. I couldn't believe GM even did such a thing to these cars.
That RT woulda got dropped 🥱💀
Another very good video. I really appreciate the ten thousand mile update and gives me some more fat again thinking positive of the l t one
I have a 21 camaro LT1, so far the only problem I really have is the AFM valve squeezing but that will be fixed when I get my cat back, but other than that it’s been a fantastic experience
I have the same problem it makes a squeaky sound when I throttle it too
@@johnsanchez9987 I use wd 40 as a temporary solution to it
@@JamesPlaysWithCars Sounds great! Thanks!
That Dude in Blue's review of the V6 Camaro definitely showed it doesn't get enough love. You can get one with some nice options for about $35k.
Excellent video, many thanks.
Cool review. The quality issues are a bit of a shame, but I guess nothing too serious.
So true, best critique ever
One reason why I want a 6 speed is that there’s no cylinder deactivation. It’s the Achilles heel of the LS.
I have a 2022 LTI, only 5k miles but so far its great and handles well. Only thing I would change is the seat doesn't lean back far enough.
Does the SS have similar issues? I mean the sheet metal couldn’t be different could it?
I don’t have firsthand experience but imagine it would be the same!
Can you talk me thru the break in period
First 1500 mile???
Im assuming you have the LT1 engine. The break-in period is actually in your manual on Pg. 199. It states not to brake hard, vary RPMs but do not exceed 4000 (so try not to cruise at the same RPM for too long.), don’t “lug” the engine or accelerate hard at really high gears (which would only be possible I imagine in manual mode), and don’t go above 80 MPH. I also got my first oil change very early (somewhere between 500-1000 miles)but it does not state that in the manual. Hope this helps!
Did you bring it to the dealership?
I have a 2021 Camaro Ls1 I’m at 7000miles it is exactly a year old no issues so far.
Does your Camaro shake while stopped at a stop light? Mine is really smooth while driving but shakes quite a bit when stopped.
V8s shake. Probably nothing to be concerned about, if its gentle.
Great video; thanks. I'm hoping to get a 23 or 2r lt1.
Thanks for sharing your experience! From one owner to another, that’s all very helpful to know. Cheers
Sounds like a wrap would be worth the money.
Great video 😊
The only thing I share concern for is the transition from V4 to V8, my Camaro has 18k and I don’t hear that throttle body sound
They use environmentally safe paint and it chips easy….pretty common now
Great videos - Would you buy it again, given the concerns regarding paint and funny engine noises?
1: Do you etill like it now?
2: Im savin uo to get this car or a future model, idk anything about cars lmao
I have a 2021 Camaro, got in November of 2020, today I have just over 16,000 miles. I have had 0 incidents or concerns. I just question a video at only 10k in. Should still be brand new
Other commenters on RUclips and in forums have also told me they’ve had various small issues within the first 10-20k. Sounds like you got lucky! 😎
@@JamesPlaysWithCars I mean, any car after 10K should be just like brand new, don't you think? Not trying to be a dick or anything, just saying. I'm curious what issues other's are having. It's a very fun car to drive, once you get used to the limited vision.
@@illmicman Haha yes, in theory it should be brand new... but in small ways, it was showing some wear and tear and I wanted to show that.
Nah, I had an 1SS and now an LT1, and I had some similar issues. That paint is terrible lol. My wife bumped the door, immediate dent, required dealership repair. Paint chips everywhere and I sold it before 10k miles. That’s just GM.
Are you able to disable the cylinder deactivation with a button or something in the dash?
Range technology AFM. Plugs into your OBD port. Problem solved
I love one best Camaro 2024 just drive test drive so much so good luck like it
Why the 10-speed Auto why not get that car with a six-speed manual transmission???
Get the devise that disables the cylinder deactivation. I did. works great.
Hi Michael, in your experience did the throttle response become noticeably better with AFM disabled? Some people say the change in throttle response is night and day, and I'd like to hear your experience as well.
The paint seems to be bad on all the sports cars I owned a2020 mustang and it chipped all to hell driving down the highway . Now I own a challenger same thing I think it’s a lot of them which sucks :(
great color!
It looks to me you need to change your oil and filter more, like 3000 miles.
Why choose auto vs manual?
oh yes get CC and wrap for your paint.
smart dude
I had a 97 Camaro V6 5 speed. For a daily it was a great car. Handled great. Small cars, but they’re great cars. Especially with a Manuel.
What about with a Jose?
What's the top speed on lt1?
I think 187
Congratulations on getting the awesome tire wear my run flats where at 4/32 tread depth at only 17,000 I have now gone with dsw extremecontract 06 plus.
Robert, it sounds like you've been driving it the way it should be driven :D
This car replaced your nD2. Why the change?
My cars parked outside kept getting hit by careless drivers, so I made the decision to consolidate to one car for me and one for my wife. Between Miata and Camaro: The Miata is an amazing weekend car that can do daily duty. Camaro is an awesome daily car that can do weekend duty. In the end, the Camaro made more sense as my everyday car, and I now use Turo to rent a Miata or other manual car whenever I feel like it! 👍🏼
@@JamesPlaysWithCars daily with an automatic is much nicer

Re-download the app maybe
Get a 2 ss or zl1 u wont have anymore complaints
That doesn’t fix the crappy paint lol
Just got a 23 1ss,riverside blue,npp,recaros,mag ride,red calipers,black metallic stripe etc......freaking love it
He scared me at pre mature engine problems 😭😭 might not get one after all 😩
Why in the world would you buy an automatic V8 Camaro??
Kinda missing the point of a driver focused, fun muscle/sports car.
Manuals are so much more involving, engaging and fun to drive.
SaveTheManuals.
Agreed that manual is better when possible. I can’t daily drive a manual due to old left knee injury, so unfortunately my daily needs to be automatic!
@@JamesPlaysWithCars
👍👍
I really like the new Corvette Z06 with its high revving naturally aspirated engine, sounds like a Ferrari and I would buy one if it came with a manual.
I completely understand if anyone has some kind of physical challenge that won't allow them to drive a manual get the auto and get the car you like.
All new cars have paper thin metal which is a joke,
Seeing the doors sill higher than the shoulder is a huge turnoff to me. WHy chevy never fixed that says they could care less ought to be able to rest your arm on the windowsill.
Always loved Camaros for decades but without a decent engine I wouldnt look at them twice.
Those issues are Not mild. Its a cheaply built car.
Flying stones will chip any car's paint, and seat wear and tear is also normal. Seems you be nitpickn. No car stays perfect.
Turn the V8 to V4 OFF!
First!
Also, you gotta do the dod delete.
@@jamesrobinson9176 That could certainly help the clacking issue... I'll take it to the dealer first and see what they say!
Distracted Driving? 🤪🤣🤣
I would never own this car in an Auto trans.
-then you will lose the race!
What’s Wrong with you ?
