the driving instructor really does make the difference - ten years ago I was so unmotivated to drive and it was not helped by my instructor taking me to the same roads and going over the same lesson for weeks, now i have the motivation which is fuelled more by my instructor - tells me where i'm going right as well as where i'm going wrong and lets me figure out for myself what i'm doing wrong before telling me as well. hoping to take my test as soon as my theory is passed
Never ever leave comments on RUclips, however, James seems like a great bloke and a great instructor. I am an instructor myself and I’m guessing a similar age to James and been at it for a few years. I pride myself on being calm and giving pupils confidence and never ever shouting (why would you ever do that, ridiculous!). When l learnt to drive my first instructor used to get really funny with me if I did anything wrong. Changed instructors and went with a man who was in his late 50’s, calmest man ever and was a lovely bloke, that was 10+ years ago so the good instructors are still out there! Shout out to James and all the instructors that continue to teach in a calm and motivating manner. Keep up the good work Driving School TV love the vids 👍
Seeing these sorts of videos after passing feels so surreal...I wish I could drive using my license now but it is far too expensive to add me to the insurance plan so I have to keep relying on my Dad. To all learners: ENJOY THE CHANCE FOR FAR CHEAPER DRIVING WHILE YOU CAN!!
Passed my test today🥳, huge shout out to you Francis and also Aman as well, both of you have very detailed vids which helped me know what I need to do to pass my test, I was watching your vids non stop🤣 but it was totally worth it in the end 🎉
Passed yesterday 1st try with 3 minors felt amazing it was also my birthday so it was the cherry on the cake. Francis, your videos are amazing and really helped me although my instructor was great i binge watched your videos for 8 hours a day for 2 weeks solid and i can honestly say i think they really helped me... i was so nervous my heart was pounding then all of a sudden sitting in the room before my test i suddenly felt really calm and my nerves just disappeared. Also the examiner was great he really made me feel at ease chatted to me the whole test and was so helpful... big up francis keep doing what your doing your great and i will still watch your videos thank you
I wish I'd had you or James as my instructor. My first one was a homophobic bully and used to scream at me. When I shouted back, he said "the last gay I had queened out on me too." WTF? He used to take over the pedals so often that I'd never be sure who was in control. My second instructor gave me my confidence back and said I was a good driver, but he didn't teach me very much and used to do his paperwork while I was driving! My third instructor was fantastic - patient, funny, gave me lots of encouragement, and I passed with him. Teaching someone to drive must be incredibly rewarding, but a lot of instructors seem to have forgotten how scary it is for learners.
A good instructor makes the world of difference, I was a nervous driver and didnt think id ever enjoy or drive alone. My instructor was amazing and helped me have confidence in my driving and made it such an enjoyable journey, I really do have her to thank!
I had an instructor that use to shout and punch the window if I did anything wrong. I changed to another instructor a few years back now and she was really wonderful. I passed first time with 3 minors . I wasn’t a confident driver after the fact he made me really nervous . But after I changed I gained more and more confidence
I had a Driving Instructor who used to shout and swear, call me names and then hit on the head with an RAC Book, I told my Mother and She went for him! I got a lovely Instructor after that and passed on the 2nd go. I'll follow James on here, I just like watching the videos.
was meant to have my driving test yesterday but the snow got it cancelled and now its re booked for next week i have watched lots of your videos and they are very helpful and have made me a more confident driver
Great video🙂 You are right about manoeuvres, since passing I’m still having to practice reverse parking, sometimes perfect but often have to readjust but doesn’t matter as I’ve now got time to perfect it.
Another nugget of information you left off (maybe by design) is that all approved instructors are graded ‘A’ or ‘B’ by the DVSA. These are grades given to each instructor by the DVSA depending on how effective they can give a lesson when observed by a DVSA examiner of instructors. So if you really want to know how good they are, ask them if they’re an A or B rated instructor. It doesn’t matter if an instructor is independent or with a driving school.
@@GazzaRed-gw7hy I’m grade a but I don’t think it’s a reflection of how good an instructor you are. Some people rehearse lessons and some others crumble under pressure 🤷♂️
Really good video, I've had a couple of instructors waste my time, therefore mess up my learning and put me back off the path to passing the driving test. Resulting in nervousness and low confidence. I would luv to pass a test. Hither Green is my preferable test centre. Trying to keep positivity up.
Surely the main point of a mock test is so that the student knows what to expect and then in the test can focus on showing their driving ability. A test is an artificial situation so it makes sense to do some preparation. In any case the argument that "I'm teaching you to drive, not to pass the test" doesn't make much sense as the driving test is meant to be a test of your driving ability so teaching someone to pass it is surely the same as teaching them to drive.
i would like to come on here and thank you for your videos yesterday i passed first time in bromley with the help of your videos thank you so much and god bless you 🎉

He is a great instructor and installs confidence which is what you want. Agree with it doesn't need to be perfect but you need to show you are safe and you have a good chance to pass. At work have an apprentice i believe i giving him encouragement rarther than shouting at him . I also believe in letting him make a mistake as that's how he will learn. Then have a bit of banter and if winding him will say . Then take the time to get know his hobbies and interests
Thanks Francis. My first instructor was a terrible person. A very angry little man who would shout & rant. If it was anyone else I would've decked him for speaking to me like that but being alone, miles away from home with a nasty little git felt very unsafe. He'd stop every lesson for shopping or the toilet and even once stopped at his house to stick reference points back on his stanky old car for the next student! He'd cut lessons short and forget days or just wouldn't turn up. He was on his best behaviour at first so I'd book 20 hours -which he pressured me into - and ended up owing me £500+ which took him weeks to pay back. I'd love to complain to DVSA but he knows where I live. As soon as I sacked him off and got a new one, WOW my new instructor was unbelievable. I passed with 2 driving faults and I don't think I would have with the first one. Thanks to every decent instructor for being the good guys! Shout out to Dale if you're watching ❤
Awww big up Dale! I get the feeling that he knows where you live so you don't want to rock the boat but if you made a complaint without any details in it that were specific to your lessons he might not know who it was from? Something to think about maybe!
@@DrivingSchoolTVI've definitely thought about it a lot. I worry about a teenager being put off driving because of him. If he can do it to me, then someone younger is even more at risk. I'm so petty that I bib outside his house when I go by, and I know it's doing his head in 😂

There are A LOT of driving instructors who do it purely for the money, are terrible at teaching, and should be doing something else for a living. I've had three instructors now and I've still learnt more from youtube.
I like the use of using side cameras when approaching junctions and the having the picture-in-picture for the majority of the video.
