Seven years ago, I wouldn't be caught dead listening to three intellects like this. The fact that I could follow along with much of what they were saying, is even more incredible. I am not highly educated. I barely passed primary education, as I have worked full-time since I was 14 years old...until my debilitating accident in 2014. During my recovery, I took to watching interesting videos on RUclips. Something that was easier to do while languishing in a hospital bed. This is where I found Jordan Peterson, as well as his seemingly infinite archive of lectures. More recently, this is where I also found Heather & Brett. So, while I was rehabilitating, watching endless strings of cat videos and selfie style channels, my mind began to turn as numb as my legs. Turning towards more intellectual videos, I found Mr. Peterson. He was, and still is, a fascinating speaker. He was just as passionate about what he was teaching, as he was intellectually proficient...or so I surmised...cause 'what the hell do I know', as Peterson has often lament. Back to the point of my comment, it is precisely because of people like this that I could awaken to a larger world of knowledge, where I would obviously not have, if not for my physical demise, technological advancement, cat videos, and videos that Jordan, Heather, & Brett keep producing. Thank you very much...all three of you...for what you do.

If it wasn't for Dr Petersons books and lectures online my life would be much worse off. As a fifty year old father of two daughters, I've learned more from him than I had ever learned in school. Yet delight was my instinctive feeling, as l saw the smiles and all of the body expressions that you notice only between people connected with trust and friendship. I thought it was beautiful.
So I've just listened to a 90-minute discussion incredibly packed with hardcore scientific and philosophical ideas of arguably tremendous complexity and I'm leaving literally with a smile on my face and an uplifting feeling in my soul. It sounds very strange to me when put that way, but it is true and so I think you were doing something right there and I was doing something right listening to this, so thank you very much for doing this. It is an incredibly engaging and informative episode, one of the best in my opinion. I hope that that discussion with the couple's undergraduate advisor will happen, if it hasn't happened yet, and will be posted soon cause it sounded like it might be a good one too. Good words , but just words which are human creation ! And thats one of the tools of our ability to abstract ! Indeed abstraction is the main function we gained , if you compare us with other beings but you have also to look what we lost gaining that function . There is not a win/win situation in the real life ( meaning evolution ) !
Jordan's note on how positive his RUclips comments can get was spot on. There are some corners of the Web that are horrible, but when people get a glimpse of something that comes from the heart and is honest it brings the best out of them, and we yearn to reach out and connect in this way (or so I like to think)
I think I would add 'deep' to that list of attributes. While honest and coming from the heart are also great markers they can easily be co-opted by cliché and stereotype right? That is why Hollywood movies (perhaps especially seen with European eyes) can become so teeth-grindingly unpleasant right - because it's all from the heart but lacking the depth or profundity that is needed for emotioanlity to have relevance as more than merely emotional porn.
I am so lucky to have been born in 1955, there were years of my life when people were not afraid to offend with conversation, this conversation reminds me of the days when people really talked.
As a new parent I really appreciated the discussion about not discouraging "Play" surrounding other genders. I have really been pondering how to handle that. This was a very impactful intellectual discussion. God bless you Jordan Peterson!!!!!
As a mom of two teenagers now, I just recently took a job with a pre k and am taking early childhood classes and have learned so many things that I could have used when my girls were little. One of My favorite things Jordan says is “children learn most when they are doing dangerous things carefully. “ it’s totally true. My take away from it is don’t be such a helicopter parent. Listen and guide but let them kinda figure it out themselves first before just taking over. ❤️ Good luck in the parenting world. You do what you feel is right by your child
How do we grapple with seemingly obvious attempts by major media to confuse children. Jordan said it himself, Pocahontas had a powerful impact on his niece. She phased out of it but media is far more available now and my fear is who our kids become can really be shaped far more by what they are watching than in the past.
Once again, as I trudge through the darkness of what is considered 'our society,' I am uplifted by Jordan Peterson and his incredible guests Heather and Bret Weinstein. It's often been said that listening to these dialogues is akin to sitting in on a post-grad level lecture and this conversation is no different. I am so grateful for this type of intellectual content. It's like cool water in the desert.

May I suggest you dig into Iain McGilchrist's presentations on why relying on the narrow-mechanistically inclined, over confident rationalistic worldview is a dumb proposition. If you still happen to be a reader (?) - he produced two huge books on the subject of brain hemispheres' differing attitude to interpreting the world (The Master and His Emissary, The Matter with Matter) - fantastically enlightening especially for narrow-thinking founts of wisdom, like you seem to be......

Being in Portland we're always grateful other voices like Heather and Bret come from this often schizophrenic place. They are a positive influence in promoting dialogue. Just participating on JP's podcast is awesome and help many of us feel that we are not as isolated in the wilderness as we may feel.
A false sense of security will lull you into your already complacent lifestyle. Change it…. Quit complying… that’s the only way you get out of your situation.
When dealing with a disease where the vast majority will survive, and many will get it and recover without even knowing it, perhaps the effects of the fear of the disease will be worse than the disease itself. Not saying don't get vaccinated, I'm vaccinated myself, but I'm not going to spend energy on it, beyond modest and reasonable precautions, when I'm vastly more likely to die from heart disease, obesity, or cancer.
When Bret said "our level of flexibility is not up to a rate of change where we literally do not mature into the same world in which we were born" I got a strong chill. I think this topic is one of the most important issues facing youth today and going forward and it warrants a full discussion all on its own. The problem is only further exacerbated when parents, teachers, councillors, etc., give children a vision of a world that just doesn't really exist anymore.
There are portions of our human history that NEED to be remembered and transmitted to those who will never otherwise comprehend how and what adaptations were made before the explosive pace of change altered everything. Some ideas must, MUST be understood before it is decided whether they live or die. Human life depends on such considerations.

Peterson obviously goes through it. Not every day is the best day. Some intros get straight to business. But when he says friends, smiling and excited, I believe he means that. Everytime I hear these 3 speak, I gain wisdom.
@@TheShootist Friends who knows nothing or have surface level insight into the persons life is more known as an acquaintance. This was an interesting discussion. But with a lot of guessing and some one-upping on JBPs side. JBP is getting to sound like a broken record at this point. The religious symbolisms, the egyptian metaphors... I get that he has been through a really tough stretch and he is amusing to listen to but I would caution to take him seriously. He is the old man telling the youth stories about the good days, trying to stay relevant. And if it keeps him sober, more power to him as he is used to say.
I can't say enough about how much Bret and heather have taught me. But also they were the very few truth tellers about the lab scenerio, I saw on bill maher they helped me continue to critically think thru all the propaganda. ✨🇨🇦

This is/was a really great conversation. I just wish it would have been longer. There were a few branches of significant thought that were left unexplored. For example, Heather was making a point how there weren’t many archetypal (female narratives). I wanted to hear what she was going with that. I suppose they’re going to need some more conversations

I grew up poor and relatively homeless on some occasions. All of this as a developing child. The system never assisted us (apart from the police) and my mother relied on shadow figured men who wanted to sleep with her. This allowed us to get a roof over our heads. All of this as a developing child who was becoming increasingly aware of the complexities & absurdities of life. My childhood involved attempted murder, attempted suicide, domestic assault, drug overdoses, food bank visits provided by churches, and being bullied at school for looking "weird" or what adults say, wearing glasses. Alcoholism further fuelled descent into familial chaos and as such my family was literally torn apart, irrefutably, for the rest of time. Both my parents could be held accountable for their failures including the grief and suffering they imposed on their children, however; I decided to take a self guidance path which led to me to where I am today. This included distancing(before "social distancing" was cool...) myself from my parents, reading alternative ways of living, different perspectives through friends and probably the most important lesson of all, not conforming to status quo ideals within the mainstream. My literal remedy for all this BS was, being alone with myself. Getting to know myself deeper, then understanding the ways of the world and its collective society. Understanding and studying the ways I which civilizations allow such damning things to occur to adults and children. Then I found the hive mind and I wanted to stand even further from the notion of "what everyone else does". Now after almost 34 years (alongside my wife of 16 years), I'm in a place where I'm in control of my life. Making my own decisions now that were once previously ironed with constant chaos. I was surrounded by a system that did not give a damn about my worries, insecurities and the mental fatigue which plagued (and to some degree continues too) me. I worked on it all by myself. No therapists, no drugs, & no alcohol. It was no easy feat but I am more assured in who I am today than ever before. It's a nuanced life of course, as all of ours are but my story lends Creedence to my distrust in governmental systems as a whole. I didn't conform back then and I certainly don't conform to the herd at present. All of this just to say, I refuse to comply with dictates by authorities quagmired in monetary gain who continue to sow a lack of basic common sense in regards to life and all of its risks. I've been face to face with death multiple times already, so who has the right to impose what we do with our time while on this planet? I lost my job at the hospital in November here in BC due to "non compliance" and I'll continue to fight against wrongful authority wherever I may. This is just my story and life continues until it doesn't, and then I'm ready to fight like I've already done for the past 34 years. Thank you for your never ending work to understand the human condition. That goes for Heather, Brett, Jordan and any of you reading. Much Peace my friends.

Good on you all for speaking to this. Deep within the matrix of 2022 I found myself turning away from some of my primary motivations and turned back to music - became a drummer. Truth is truth - wherever we find it. Drumming is fundamental to our evolution. The vibe, the beat will always be.

I like to think that Brett and Heather reminded each other before the podcast: "Okay, we know he's going to interrupt us, but we aren't going to get upset, because at the end of the day, he's a good guy."
I'm like that, and know others similar... in conversation, these complex, 6-sided ideas jump up, and if not grabbed and allowed to unfold on their own energy, in seconds they're totally unretrievable. And I end up telling some poor soul about electron spin resonance and DNA intercalation for 20 minutes. Peterson described himself as "hyper-verbal"; if that's a term, I have the same disease.
I think the two most destructive challenges of modern life are: 1. Overstimulation 2. Overcomfort Implementing strategies to habitually control for them are 80% of the battle towards a good life.
I agree but would argue that these challenges are not inherently destructive, instead they are conditions present in the environment that have destructive consequences for individuals that cannot adapt to or mitigate the dangers of them.
I have autism and I am multi-lingual. I have actually found that, while language is wonderful, it actually gets in the way a lot. People often are sending two messages at once, without even being aware of it. Our speech doesn't match what's actually happening the majority of the time and it is absolutely maddening to try to communicate with people who have no idea why they are saying what they are saying beyond trying to fill the 'uncomfortable silence'.
I am undiagnosed but a mishmosh of neurodivergent and mentally fucked up. I've always said the same thing, especially because I read people quite well. But just to play devil's advocate, maybe we are missing some of the nuances of why they do that, as was discussed in this conversation. I don't know if I'll ever be able to stand small talk that doesn't quickly veer somewhere interesting, though, no matter how much I understand its purpose :D
@@Magoover1 Sure, it does seem like the "emotional intelligence" meme is some vague measure of ability to "non-rationally" navigate social interactions. I also dislike small talk, because it appears to mean nothing. Judging by this freaking podcast, I might outgrow this some day.
Unfortunately small talk often veers into vicious gossip. People who fill their voids with empty words are just as willing to hurt others for entertainment.

When Jordan is talking about the value of listening in therapy, and Bret asks at 1:22:07, "do podcasts work this way?" - With his cheeky smile, Bret is clearly asking this question as a subtle dig at the fact that Jordan has a tendency in conversation to speak over his guests rather than listen. A very interesting layer of irony is at work here. In this conversation, there is much discussion about the value of listening and attention, but in the process of talking about listening and attention, listening and attention are somewhat sacrificed. Jordan talks about the dance and play of conversation, yet he is slightly out of rhythm. I don't mean to criticize. I'm just observing. Great conversation!
For sure. He's been that way for some time now., sadly. Even when being presented with something he admits he doesn't know about he can't help but keep interrupting. Look at the exchange from 1:15:15 to 1:16:38 - he doesn't allow his guests even a minute and a half to speak continuously.

Fun fact: The appendix is currently thought to be a space for gut bacteria to replenish after we have let's just call it digestive issues requiring immediate expunging of the gut. That action doesn't affect the appendix allowing it to be a reservoir for good bacteria to grow and replenish. Hence the adaptation of just space that doesn't seem to "do" anything in our ultra clean lives.
This was soulfilling! I had an NDE 5 years ago and returned with a few messages, one in particular, that humans have forgotten we're human. So much to say. Very curious in others thoughts regarding their comments when referencing "if a person created it." Love, Love, how Peterson kept interupting because he's so intellectually stimulated!! Don't know if it gonna happen. JP got lots of hate just for not bending the knee and having an opinion divergent to some political hacks. Dr. Thomas is and even deeper level of a topic that sadly has become politicized and weaponized by the corrupt establisment. Doubt JP would risk exposing to the drama that always brings.

Anyone else curious about what types of technology Jordan was referring to when it said there are 10 things more revolutionary than the internet on the horizon? Certainly machine learning/ AI, but I wonder what else he'd consider on that list?
It would be interesting to know his thoughts (he seems like a very smart person.). But with that said... it's not his area of expertise. - Personally I'm impressed with: The pursuit for procedural volition that some game designers/ programmers are working towards... Block Chains Smart Contracts NFTs Starlink Quantum Computing VR, omnidirectional treadmills, haptic body suits Traveling to and colonizing Mars... An academic return to intuitive thinking/ knowledge/ re-examining the history of intuitive understandings and meanings our ancestors held vs the modern analytical approach that we've pursued since the enlightment.. the list just goes on and on... our world is full of so much that's being worked on... it's mind blowing. 🤯

I so miss this flow....of ideas as a retired academic from the time before the woke takeover of the academy. This is how it was for me in the early 70s as an undergraduate and late 70s,as a grad student then professor in the 80 a life filled with similar discussions no censoring of ideas and expression.Things began to shift in the 90s with political correctness ...
I think one of my many favourite things about the Bret and Heather is the way they look at each other when the other is making a good point. Like they're falling for each other's beautiful brains all over.
1:13:00 or so Peterson mentioned that we need more and more powerful computers to tell stories. Yesterday I played Kennshi for about 16 hours. Not something I am proud of and then I thought about why I did that, (and why I am so addicted to games in general) and I realized that I wanted to play out the story of a survivor. I wanted to see what unexpected and tragic things would happen, and see my friends struggle to survive become enslaved and even maimed but then come out the other side. Sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. I know my life is better when I don't play games but I recently got back into gaming. I got back into gaming at about the same time my own story became uncomfortable for me. Peterson has a habit of saying what I can't articulate. Thank you Jordan.
Brett and Heathers reaction to Jordan's "Are women just men, then?", priceless. Hollywood has been trying to create their version of the Hero's Journey for women, by lazily putting women in traditional men roles, the last couple of years without much success.
Yes, our Hero's journeys are definitely different. But to be effective, they'd have to be much more multifaceted than Beauty and the Beast. It's a good teaching story, not dissing it. But it doesn't hold a candle to the Descent of Inanna. Women don't have too many stories that go as profoundly deep into the maturation of consciousness (courage in the face of death, humility, sacrifice, wisdom) as the stories of our male counterparts. But that one does.

He was just as passionate about what he was teaching, as he was intellectually proficient...or so I surmised...cause 'what the hell do I know', as Peterson has often lament.
Back to the point of my comment, it is precisely because of people like this that I could awaken to a larger world of knowledge, where I would obviously not have, if not for my physical demise, technological advancement, cat videos, and videos that Jordan, Heather, & Brett keep producing.

So I've just listened to a 90-minute discussion incredibly packed with hardcore scientific and philosophical ideas of arguably tremendous complexity and I'm leaving literally with a smile on my face and an uplifting feeling in my soul. It sounds very strange to me when put that way, but it is true and so I think you were doing something right there and I was doing something right listening to this, so thank you very much for doing this. It is an incredibly engaging and informative episode, one of the best in my opinion. I hope that that discussion with the couple's undergraduate advisor will happen, if it hasn't happened yet, and will be posted soon cause it sounded like it might be a good one too. I think I would add 'deep' to that list of attributes. While honest and coming from the heart are also great markers they can easily be co-opted by cliché and stereotype right? That is why Hollywood movies (perhaps especially seen with European eyes) can become so teeth-grindingly unpleasant right - because it's all from the heart but lacking the depth or profundity that is needed for emotioanlity to have relevance as more than merely emotional porn.

I am so lucky to have been born in 1955, there were years of my life when people were not afraid to offend with conversation, this conversation reminds me of the days when people really talked.
As a new parent I really appreciated the discussion about not discouraging "Play" surrounding other genders. I have really been pondering how to handle that. This was a very impactful intellectual discussion. God bless you Jordan Peterson!!!!!
As a mom of two teenagers now, I just recently took a job with a pre k and am taking early childhood classes and have learned so many things that I could have used when my girls were little. One of My favorite things Jordan says is “children learn most when they are doing dangerous things carefully. “ it’s totally true. My take away from it is don’t be such a helicopter parent. Listen and guide but let them kinda figure it out themselves first before just taking over. ❤️ Good luck in the parenting world. You do what you feel is right by your child
How do we grapple with seemingly obvious attempts by major media to confuse children. Jordan said it himself, Pocahontas had a powerful impact on his niece. She phased out of it but media is far more available now and my fear is who our kids become can really be shaped far more by what they are watching than in the past.
Once again, as I trudge through the darkness of what is considered 'our society,' I am uplifted by Jordan Peterson and his incredible guests Heather and Bret Weinstein. It's often been said that listening to these dialogues is akin to sitting in on a post-grad level lecture and this conversation is no different. I am so grateful for this type of intellectual content. It's like cool water in the desert.

Being in Portland we're always grateful other voices like Heather and Bret come from this often schizophrenic place. They are a positive influence in promoting dialogue. Just participating on JP's podcast is awesome and help many of us feel that we are not as isolated in the wilderness as we may feel.

A false sense of security will lull you into your already complacent lifestyle. Change it…. Quit complying… that’s the only way you get out of your situation.
When dealing with a disease where the vast majority will survive, and many will get it and recover without even knowing it, perhaps the effects of the fear of the disease will be worse than the disease itself.
Not saying don't get vaccinated, I'm vaccinated myself, but I'm not going to spend energy on it, beyond modest and reasonable precautions, when I'm vastly more likely to die from heart disease, obesity, or cancer.
When Bret said "our level of flexibility is not up to a rate of change where we literally do not mature into the same world in which we were born" I got a strong chill. I think this topic is one of the most important issues facing youth today and going forward and it warrants a full discussion all on its own. The problem is only further exacerbated when parents, teachers, councillors, etc., give children a vision of a world that just doesn't really exist anymore.

There are portions of our human history that NEED to be remembered and transmitted to those who will never otherwise comprehend how and what adaptations were made before the explosive pace of change altered everything. Some ideas must, MUST be understood before it is decided whether they live or die.

Peterson obviously goes through it. Not every day is the best day. Some intros get straight to business. But when he says friends, smiling and excited, I believe he means that. Everytime I hear these 3 speak, I gain wisdom.

I grew up poor and relatively homeless on some occasions. All of this as a developing child. The system never assisted us (apart from the police) and my mother relied on shadow figured men who wanted to sleep with her. This allowed us to get a roof over our heads. All of this as a developing child who was becoming increasingly aware of the complexities & absurdities of life. My childhood involved attempted murder, attempted suicide, domestic assault, drug overdoses, food bank visits provided by churches, and being bullied at school for looking "weird" or what adults say, wearing glasses.
Alcoholism further fuelled descent into familial chaos and as such my family was literally torn apart, irrefutably, for the rest of time. Both my parents could be held accountable for their failures including the grief and suffering they imposed on their children, however; I decided to take a self guidance path which led to me to where I am today. This included distancing(before "social distancing" was cool...) myself from my parents, reading alternative ways of living, different perspectives through friends and probably the most important lesson of all, not conforming to status quo ideals within the mainstream.
My literal remedy for all this BS was, being alone with myself. Getting to know myself deeper, then understanding the ways of the world and its collective society. Understanding and studying the ways I which civilizations allow such damning things to occur to adults and children. Then I found the hive mind and I wanted to stand even further from the notion of "what everyone else does".
Now after almost 34 years (alongside my wife of 16 years), I'm in a place where I'm in control of my life. Making my own decisions now that were once previously ironed with constant chaos. I was surrounded by a system that did not give a damn about my worries, insecurities and the mental fatigue which plagued (and to some degree continues too) me. I worked on it all by myself. No therapists, no drugs, & no alcohol.
It was no easy feat but I am more assured in who I am today than ever before. It's a nuanced life of course, as all of ours are but my story lends Creedence to my distrust in governmental systems as a whole. I didn't conform back then and I certainly don't conform to the herd at present.
All of this just to say, I refuse to comply with dictates by authorities quagmired in monetary gain who continue to sow a lack of basic common sense in regards to life and all of its risks. I've been face to face with death multiple times already, so who has the right to impose what we do with our time while on this planet?
I lost my job at the hospital in November here in BC due to "non compliance" and I'll continue to fight against wrongful authority wherever I may.
This is just my story and life continues until it doesn't, and then I'm ready to fight like I've already done for the past 34 years.
Thank you for your never ending work to understand the human condition. That goes for Heather, Brett, Jordan and any of you reading.

I need the audio of this episode saved. This was so interesting. I love these topics and ideas and they make so much sense. I wish I existed in realms where folks like this could be in my immediate community, who I could relate with about raising children and learn from their wisdom.

He's still stepping on others speech a little too much, I hope he gets back his flow.
I like to think that Brett and Heather reminded each other before the podcast: "Okay, we know he's going to interrupt us, but we aren't going to get upset, because at the end of the day, he's a good guy."
I'm like that, and know others similar... in conversation, these complex, 6-sided ideas jump up, and if not grabbed and allowed to unfold on their own energy, in seconds they're totally unretrievable. And I end up telling some poor soul about electron spin resonance and DNA intercalation for 20 minutes. Peterson described himself as "hyper-verbal"; if that's a term, I have the same disease.
I think the two most destructive challenges of modern life are:
1. Overstimulation
2. Overcomfort
Implementing strategies to habitually control for them are 80% of the battle towards a good life.

I agree but would argue that these challenges are not inherently destructive, instead they are conditions present in the environment that have destructive consequences for individuals that cannot adapt to or mitigate the dangers of them.
Meditation is more necessary than ever today
I have autism and I am multi-lingual. I have actually found that, while language is wonderful, it actually gets in the way a lot.
People often are sending two messages at once, without even being aware of it. Our speech doesn't match what's actually happening the majority of the time and it is absolutely maddening to try to communicate with people who have no idea why they are saying what they are saying beyond trying to fill the 'uncomfortable silence'.
I am undiagnosed but a mishmosh of neurodivergent and mentally fucked up. I've always said the same thing, especially because I read people quite well. But just to play devil's advocate, maybe we are missing some of the nuances of why they do that, as was discussed in this conversation. I don't know if I'll ever be able to stand small talk that doesn't quickly veer somewhere interesting, though, no matter how much I understand its purpose :D
@@Magoover1 Sure, it does seem like the "emotional intelligence" meme is some vague measure of ability to "non-rationally" navigate social interactions. I also dislike small talk, because it appears to mean nothing. Judging by this freaking podcast, I might outgrow this some day.
Unfortunately small talk often veers into vicious gossip. People who fill their voids with empty words are just as willing to hurt others for entertainment.

Bret is the best kind of scientist. The kind that delights in the subtleties of their craft. When he was talking about Bower birds he had this twinkle in his eye. Great discussion.
When Jordan is talking about the value of listening in therapy, and Bret asks at 1:22:07, "do podcasts work this way?" - With his cheeky smile, Bret is clearly asking this question as a subtle dig at the fact that Jordan has a tendency in conversation to speak over his guests rather than listen. A very interesting layer of irony is at work here. In this conversation, there is much discussion about the value of listening and attention, but in the process of talking about listening and attention, listening and attention are somewhat sacrificed. Jordan talks about the dance and play of conversation, yet he is slightly out of rhythm.
I don't mean to criticize. I'm just observing. Great conversation!
For sure. He's been that way for some time now., sadly. Even when being presented with something he admits he doesn't know about he can't help but keep interrupting. Look at the exchange from 1:15:15 to 1:16:38 - he doesn't allow his guests even a minute and a half to speak continuously.

Fun fact: The appendix is currently thought to be a space for gut bacteria to replenish after we have let's just call it digestive issues requiring immediate expunging of the gut. That action doesn't affect the appendix allowing it to be a reservoir for good bacteria to grow and replenish. Hence the adaptation of just space that doesn't seem to "do" anything in our ultra clean lives.

Anyone else curious about what types of technology Jordan was referring to when it said there are 10 things more revolutionary than the internet on the horizon? Certainly machine learning/ AI, but I wonder what else he'd consider on that list?
It would be interesting to know his thoughts (he seems like a very smart person.). But with that said... it's not his area of expertise.

I so miss this flow....of ideas as a retired academic from the time before the woke takeover of the academy. This is how it was for me in the early 70s as an undergraduate and late 70s,as a grad student then professor in the 80 a life filled with similar discussions no censoring of ideas and expression.Things began to shift in the 90s with political correctness ...
I think one of my many favourite things about the Bret and Heather is the way they look at each other when the other is making a good point. Like they're falling for each other's beautiful brains all over.
1:13:00 or so Peterson mentioned that we need more and more powerful computers to tell stories. Yesterday I played Kennshi for about 16 hours. Not something I am proud of and then I thought about why I did that, (and why I am so addicted to games in general) and I realized that I wanted to play out the story of a survivor. I wanted to see what unexpected and tragic things would happen, and see my friends struggle to survive become enslaved and even maimed but then come out the other side. Sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker.
I know my life is better when I don't play games but I recently got back into gaming. I got back into gaming at about the same time my own story became uncomfortable for me. Peterson has a habit of saying what I can't articulate. Thank you Jordan.

Brett and Heathers reaction to Jordan's "Are women just men, then?", priceless. Hollywood has been trying to create their version of the Hero's Journey for women, by lazily putting women in traditional men roles, the last couple of years without much success.
Yes, our Hero's journeys are definitely different. But to be effective, they'd have to be much more multifaceted than Beauty and the Beast. It's a good teaching story, not dissing it. But it doesn't hold a candle to the Descent of Inanna. Women don't have too many stories that go as profoundly deep into the maturation of consciousness (courage in the face of death, humility, sacrifice, wisdom) as the stories of our male counterparts. But that one does.
I honestly wish this was a 3 hour episode. Absolutely loved it. And yes to the idea of DarkHorse having a conversation with Johnathan Pageau!
