If there is one company I rarely find the occasion to mention when it comes to arcade video games its Gaelco. That's not to say they dont have some retro gaming gems out there...I just never got around to talking about their stuff! But today it's time for Tokyo Cop....one part arcade racing game, one part San Francisco Rush, one part police chase video game...and all parts fun!

Tokyo Cop is an unassuming retrogaming experience and its possible you've never heard of it...but take it from me when I say this video game is just straight up FUN! It's got all the racing game action you would want...except you really aren't racing anyone! It's like a pivot on the Chase HQ formula from Taito...with it's own unique spin. It's a rare video game as well as an obscure video game...and you know I love video game history and preservation!
It's certainly no Daytona USA or Ridge Racer...but it isnt even trying to be!
I played this Via Teknoparrot on my PC so its technically PC gaming as the arcade PCB was just a PC in a box anyway!

Long time ago, this game was everywhere. Now it's kinda hard to find it in the wild.
I used to play the hell out of this game every time I see it back in my teen years, and it was pretty fun.
Sadly that’s what happens with most arcade games. Unless they are huge hits
I love the horror show of the characters' bodies all broken up via emulation. It almost adds to the charm! 😅

Half my body dematerializes every time I move. Standard issue behavior
Everything in the city looks like normal reality then the character model gets out of the car and is raw sci-fi
they def have some big armor on!
Looks simple and fun as an Arcade game should be. It sort of reminds me of World's Scariest Police Chases on the PS1.

It's almost like a japanese Driver, and I loved the concept!
It does have Driver vibes for sure. Just whackier
i saw that they sold a couple of cabinets here in argentina. Gaelco got good sales here.

Not enough big chunky solid arcade-style racers let you drive into opposing traffic like an action movie extravaganza
It is really just an action movie as a game
Loved playing this game at the movie theater when I was in middle school. Even though it was $2 a credit 😅
