  • Follow up video to the grill swap showing how the bumper is attached/removed from the car.
    One point of correction is that I described the undertrays the wrong way around i.e the front as the rear and vice versa - sorry but clearly you will find that out for yourself when you start the job!

    Great video. This is just what I was looking for and has just saved me ££££££ by not having to go to Merc for the work! Unbelievably I have had to buy a whole new headlamp assembly at £1450 simply because the perspex cover had a crack in it from a flying stone that was sadly too big to mastic. I was amazed you cant simply replace the lens cover (like on older cars) easily ie without heating, cutting etc the sealed unit. Merc have found a total money spinner here, although not sure how binning a whole lamp unit because of a crack in what is a £10 perspex cover fits in with their environmental policy! Keep up the videos.

      Thanks so much for those lovely words Might have been with trying to heat off the old lense for that price (nothing to loose). There must be lamps with broken bodies on eBay to provide the lense?

    • @davidbentley8667
      @davidbentley8667 3 года назад

      @@mercedes_and_more Yep did that. Brought new unit but kept old one to play with. You can buy new, non Merc lens’ for c£100, but they are tricky to find outside China. I have yet to try the heat method, although some say the w213 use different glue to earlier models and it doesn't melt as easy.
      Even the 2nd hand units with broken brackets are c£500-£600!
      Wish i had of know i would have fitted lens covers!

      @@davidbentley8667 you need either to put in the oven , about 120c for 10 mins (and of you have a fan oven switch that off and don't use a gas oven!). Then you just gently prize apart. Can also use a heat gun to warm areas but keep the gun moving. Then start using a knife to start prizing apart. Once it started it should split. New cars are quite tough. Did a range rover Evoque a few weeks ago. It was tough and used the heat gun to mould some of the plastic back together. There are videos on RUclips but you just need to have a go. Good luck

    • @mercedes_and_more
      @mercedes_and_more  4 года назад

      @@rauldenes5068 if I remember the front half slides on top of the bottom of the bumper (engine side) and then you slide it to the back of the car so it clipped in under the central jacking point. The rear one then gets screwed on with the bolts on the front edge of the rear tray holding the rear edge of the front tray.

    thanks for the video. there is a small gape between the bumper and driverside wing in my car, no matter how you tight its slightly showing small gap. I am talking about that place where you call it mushroom 🍄 I replaced that part as well still have the issue any tips on that thanks.

    • @mercedes_and_more
      @mercedes_and_more  2 года назад

      Thanks for the positive comments. All i can think of is that maybe the bumper is slightly out of shape (?). If it is then you could apply some heat to the eye and reshape it, hold it in place until it cools or pour cold water over it to fix the shape by cooling it.
      If the gap wasn’t there before you started then possibly take the bumper off and mount it on that side first? Or maybe (and I mean this nicely) you haven’t quite seated the “mushroom” piece correctly-could be worth checking with the other side?

    Hi really helpful video thank you 🙏, at 4:20 you explain about the two under trays are they definitely the correct way round as you explain front being on the left( under engine to front bumper )and back on the right (inline with back of wheels towards rear of the car ,as I’ve ordered a replacement back one as mine is badly damaged on one side many thanks Kev

    Thanks for this! Is it really necessary to remove two undertrays to get the bumper off? I thought it's only few screws that connects bumper to the edge of the undertray and that's it

    • @mercedes_and_more
      @mercedes_and_more  3 года назад

      Yes you do need to remove as you need access to the two bolts by the temp sensor (and you need to disconnect the temp sensor).

    Do I have to remove the front bumper to replace driver's side headlight?

    • @mercedes_and_more
      @mercedes_and_more  4 года назад

      Yes I think you will have to as the bottom bracket of the light is accessible from the side. I suspect that even if you can access all of the headlight bolts the bumper will not allow enough space to get there headlight out between the slam panel and the bumper.
      Afternote: I've just rewatched the video and you will definitely have to remove the bumper as all the black surround under the lense that his hidden behind them bumper definitely will block it exit via the gap between the bumper and the slam panel.

      Ok, thanks for your quick answer, I'm a little bit scared of the pedestrian crash sensor in the bumper that it could trigger the active bonnet when it is plugged in again with an active battery but im also scared that the car save an error code when i dissconnect the battery😂😂 hmmm have to choose one
