- I'm on my first MSC Cruise onboard MSC Seascape! Even though I've been on over 35 cruises, for some reason this cruise line wasn't on my radar. However, I have to admit, our cruise hasn't been what I expected!
In this MSC cruise mini review video I share our experience on MSC Seascape, as well as answer questions from subsribers about our MSC cruise & experience. This includes how has the food been on MSC? How has the service been on this cruise ship? Are there things I have not liked on MSC Seascape?

In San Juan, make sure you wear bug spray! They have an epidemic of dengue. San Juan is one of the hardest hit.
We were fine in the city, and didn’t see a mosquito or bug. But good advice for excursions

Just got off the MSC Seashore, our first MSC cruise, on Sunday. We truly enjoyed it and will give them another try. We loved Ocean Cay!

Did the same itinerary as a solo cruiser (early 60s) on the Seascape in Feb 2024 and stayed in the Yacht Club. Loved the ship and my cabin - service was as good as the “premium” lines. Pretty crowded ship - lots of families and very limited adults-only space. Even the Yacht Club pool and spas had kids in diapers in them. Kids were mostly well behaved though; it was very busy and I found the passengers (perhaps 30-40% from outside North America) to be less open to conversing. I found the included food to be ok, not great, even the YC restaurant was only ok. Not on par with Celebrity, NCL or Princess but certainly not bad by any means. Specialty dining, on the other hand, was superb and worth the $$. Spent time chatting with a specialty dining manager who went through the investment they made in that service. Pizza was indeed among the best and plentiful. Also, you gotta pay for gelato on an Italian ship?? Lol But I think MSC is the current value winner among all cruise lines - for me, other than the included food, it’s as good or nearly so as the premium lines. But if you don’t like lots of kids or boisterous crowds, it might not be your cup of tea. I will definitely go on MSC again but probably not solo this time - it’s really the only cruise line I’ve felt a bit isolated on to be honest… looking forward to your full review and thanks for the great content!!
Recently did an MSC cruise on the Magnifica to the Bahamas. Wonderful experience, food was great, service was great. The bartenders could be a little more attentive however. We weren't ordering drinks, but did order a specialty coffee from there. My first cruise, was surprised how much they cleaned your room. Sort of reminded me of old Vegas, where they really go above to take care of you.
We are big fans of RCC but recently did our 3rd MSC cruise with some family and we re very impressed. The price is why we first cruised on MERAVIGLIA out of Brooklyn NY which did not require flying to Miami. These last two were on Magnifica from Miami with some of our grandchildren. The crew was incredible, especially with the 6 and 7 year old kids. Royal has made so many cuts in service while increasing prices but MSC still gave us morning and evening room service at a much lower fare. They also did match our Royal diamond status. We will definitely continue to cruise on both lines in the future.

The trick on the elevators is to have everyone in your party push the button. That helps the smart elevators know how many passengers to expect, and it won’t jam up the system.
Also, the glass elevators at the back don’t tend to be very busy most of the time.
Good advice
We just recently cruised on the Carnival Horizon that had the same system. I do truly believe that is it helpful IF and only IF everyone uses them the way they are intended. There was a silent video posted around the ship and minimum training which is a problem. The misuse continued throughout the week.
My 11 year old had a really good idea of making a 60 second training part of muster would go a LONG way to improving how they work.
We were on Icon of the Seas March 9th week, and they are trying out these elevators. As always, the forward, or front, Elevators are faster. We liked the Touch Pad where you touch the floor you want, and out of the six Elevators, the screen will tell you to go to elevator "D".
We liked that the pre-teens were not inside pushing all of the buttons which makes the elevators stop at each floor. However, we did witness some children tapping all of the touch screens. Luckily, the screen only shows one elevator. Some passengers were showing us videos of other antics that children were doing that they reported to security. Ahhhhh. Spring Break cruises! You gotta love them! Even on Icon.
We did have to wait a couple of times, and many people were lined up behind us. We saw one open up, with no one in it, and jumped on it.(well, I wheeled on) We learned that it has screens inside showing the next three stops. We're such risk takers! We got to know the ship so well, due to never departing at ports, that if the elevator took us to 7, we could go two directions to have fun. If your cabin is on 9, you can jump off and tap 9, in case you forgot your sunscreen. It took a while, but we got the hang of it. It was great that the kids were not messing with the elevators as much, but that gave them free reign for other shenanigans. 😅
Great to see you actually ON the ship. It’s so good to hear you being positive about the food - I hear such mixed reviews about the food on MSC, and I feel some people are so unfairly strict and totally forget the price point.

Do the cabins walk straight in or is inside the cabin entered through a very narrow walkway to only a bed as in Princess ship. And toilet etc in area like a garden shed. garden shed behind corridor.
I love MSC. 9 cruises in a row with them and each have been fantastic. I'll never understand the bad reviews. I've converted many of my Carnival and NCL fans to MSC and they rave about them. You can't beat the prices and the beauty of their ships and Ocean Cay!

@@jamesearnest5952I enjoy them - I don't consider them whiners at all. They were paying guests in a suite making a blog post about the accommodation and food. They did not seem intrusive to me. The line demanded they cease filming or photographing - things other passengers were allowed to continue doing. All that aside though - isn't it great that we have so many different types of you tubers and bloggers? There is someone for everyone. I would not prefer everyone to be the same - that would be so boring.

MSC Have listened to their US guests and I noticed a huge improvement compared to last year! More variety of foods to appeal to American guests.
PS- pro tip for MSC specialty dining. Like most lines, they offer a specialty dining package for 2 or 3 restaurants for a set price. That gets you a special, limited menu at most of the specialty restaurants. But the ones I went to (steak house, seafood and even Mexican) have more extensive menus with even better items for an a la carte pricing. I saw a family get and share a giant Tomahawk chop that the steak house that they were positively swooning over … next cruise I will likely skip the package and just go a la carte. Also note that the sushi restaurant (fantastic!) is not included in the package (only the teppanyaki place is included) but the sushi place is very cool (they send the fish around on little conveyor belts) and very fun. Also don’t sleep on the Venchi chocolate and coffee/gelato shop - extra $$ but the fresh chocolates are made there and they are amazing!

One of our favorites, at the buffet, were the fruit tarts and the pizza. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the negative reports. I loved the MSC Seashore!
We love the Seascape. The elevators take a while because very few people know how to use them. They are smart elevators. When you press the deck you want to go to, you press it one time for each person in your party. Example: if you are going to deck 8 as a couple, you press deck 8 twice. Unfortunately, there isn't any signage to explain and teach people how to use them.
Is the elevator that fragile that it can't carry 2 people as easily as 1?

Thank you for sharing your initial impressions! We are sailing April 20 on the Seascape and when we booked we also got the Fantastica/wifi/easy plus beverage package at a discount. Really looking forward to our trip. We also have a balcony. My husband thought we would be fine with an inside cabin but I vetoed him. I wanted a balcony for our very first cruise. LOL ((P.S. I've been watching so many of your videos in preparation for our first cruise and have learned so much!))

May considered MSC in the future, getting ready for my Oasis class ship transatlantic cruise in a few weeks to Barcelona and staying for 6 nights before getting onboard the gorgeous Sun Princess for a 7 nights cruise to Rome before returning home. We are a group of 4 that will be sailing on that exact same ship in about 6 days and I was starting to worry about the bad reviews and the rant videos that are on RUclips. I watched some of your other videos and we can see that you are being honest and nuanced when talking about cruises, so you really reassured me for our upcoming trip. We are French-Canadians and the European/international/multilingual part of MSC actually is a plus for our group (my parents do not speak English and we will have to translate some elements for them, but if there is French announcements on the ship, that will be great for them). Thank you for putting things into perspective regarding MSC and the Seascape ! I really hope that the rest of the cruise was great for you and your group ! :)

Wonderful to see you on MSC. They're a line that marches to the beat of their international drummer, so to speak. I happen to enjoy MSC because it's a welcome change from the usual American mass market lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, & Norwegian. As a huge Viking Ocean fan I'd love to see you sail Viking & what your impressions are with them. Another line that is in a league all their own. Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

We have sailed MSC a few times. We chose MSC for the price when we just needed a break.. Our favorite ship is Meraviglia. Glad you liked it.

Thanks so much! I’m so excited watching your video. I’m at an age where I don’t have as much of a budget for traveling. That is the biggest reason that I was curious about “your” opinion of this line. I’ve seen where they are more than competitive with Carnival. Personally, my latest experience with the Mardi Gras was more than disappointing. Previous to this, I’d only sailed Carniival once before on the Glory, which I loved. The other ship I’m curious about is the Norwegian Epic. They offer single studios. I lost my husband in 2015. We lived sailing, but after his passing, it took a while for me to continue what we both loved. We sailed on 31 cruises. The Glory was one of them. So, Ilana, I await with “bated breath for your reviews. Thank you so much!❤

We did 2 cruises with MSC and were supposed to go a third time but covid hit and it was cancelled.
On the first cruise the service wasn't good BUT it was a new ship, second week.
The other one was fantastic. We had the best service ever.
I find the food is good, not too fancy in the dining room but I never returned a plate. The food is more European oriented which I prefer as it is lighter and less salt, sugar, calories.
The only thing I don't like is the points that expire after 3 years.

Currently on the Island Princess world cruise. Today is day 77 of 111. About 10 lbs heavier 😢
We were on an MSC ship a few years ago and did not like it at all. But, sometimes some ships from the same cruise line are great and some are not so great. We booked the Seaside for next March. We will be with 5 other couples and 2 couples have never cruised before. I hope we will have a good cruise.

My husband and I were also on our first MSC cruise…we briefly chatted with you in the elevator on Day 2 or 3. Thank you for this first impressions video. We had similar concerns when booking the cruise. We had a fabulous time and already booked another cruise on MSC! Good to hear the first dinner in the main dining room on the Seascape was pleasant. Last month I was on the seashore for a weekend cruise and the MDR food was not good, which surprised me from previous MSC cruises. Without a doubt, the food in the specialty restaurants is excellent, planning a one week cruise on the sea side in September and I will be purchasing the special new restaurant package
We just returned March 9 from an MSC seascape cruise that went to the same ports that you have gone to. Perhaps we were even on the same cruise and I didn’t know it! We were part of the Holistic Holiday at Sea vegan cruise. The food was amazing every day! We were treated to five course meals at lunch and dinner by vegan expert chefs. They also had an enormous, vegan Buffet that was amazing. The staff was very accommodating and professional. Our cabin was terrific and we so much enjoyed the balcony. I am thankful I watched all of your videos because I did buy a lot of the things that you recommend to make our cabin more efficient which was very helpful. There were daily seminars by doctors that are experts in the field of being a vegan and was part of our daily schedule. They were very down to earth, regular fun people that were extremely knowledgeable in their field. My husband and I are not vegan, but have been vegan since we’ve come off of the ship for the last five weeks and are exploring this new way of eating. The ship was beautiful and the entertainment was so amazing and talented that they look like they came straight from Broadway. We enjoyed every bit of this cruise!

@@anastassia7952 I have a cancer diagnosis and I follow many experts on RUclips on natural cancer remedies and found it through them. We almost went last year but we were still worried about Covid. Some of the vegan doctors/experts I follow that were on the cruise giving terrific seminars were Dr. Michael Greger and Dr. Barnard. The food made by the vegan chefs was amazing every day. I would highly recommend it if anyone is considering transitioning from the SAD (standard American Diet) or are just looking to expand their knowledge of the benefits of eating a plant based diet.

Thanks for your review. All of the negatives about MSC you were anticipating happened on our Discovery Princess cruise last week. Food was subpar, especially the buffet. Elevators long! Crew members were hard to understand. Really I am excited to try MSC!

Glad that you found the positives on MSC. We have cruised four times on MSC and taking our fifth next month. We were on the same cruise as you last year. We agree with your assessment, especially with regard tot he food in the MDR and buffet; a lot of the criticism of the buffet results from people just going to the section toward the front and not checking out the entire offering. With regard to the elevators, they do have to better explain how they work: you press the deck number the number of times that there are people in your party and a car will be assigned with capacity for you. Much of the problem is people get on the first car that arrives even if it is not programmed for their deck. Perhaps it is too difficult for people to pay attention, though it is not explained well. Looking forward to your future videos for this cruise.

My wife and I did the MSC Divina in March for a Caribbean cruise and it was fantastic. I was a bit skeptical after seeing the mixed reviews but we really enjoyed ourselves. We also had the package you mentioned (the easy plus) and it was excellent value with numerous selections to satisfy any taste. I would definitely do an MSC cruise again!!!!

I went on NCL from Singapore to Thailand & Malaysia. You should try that one out one day. We had a great time.
