What to see in Northern Ireland?........Where to start!!
A sun rise over Carlingford Lough. The County Down Coast from the top of Slieve Donard. The Ulster Museum. Ulster Folk Park. The Folk and Transport Museum. Lough Erne and Enniskillen. Glamping in the Dark Sky Park at Davagh, Marble Arch Caves, Forest Parks at Gosford, Tullymore, Gortin and many more, Ballintoy Harbour, St Georges Market.....The list goes on!
I just visited Belfast for the first time a month ago. I too stayed at the Maryville B&B. I absolutely loved it. The breakfasts were so healthy and tasty. I expected the weather to be more like what you experienced, but lucked out with sunny warm days.
I am from Northern Ireland so good to see my homeland portrayed in a postive light
First of all thank you! 😊 Being from Northern Ireland I hear so much negativity, so it's so great to hear a fresh perspective from someone with so much travel experience. You did such a great job of selling us. For Belfast I would really recommend the Ballyhackmore area of Belfast for food. I love Enniskillen and the surrounding area for it's beautiful scenery. The Marble Arch caves are great. For Belfast St Georges Market - great food and crafts, and the Titanic Museum. One on my earliest childhood memories is screaming my head off as a toddler as my parents took me across the rope bridge. You went over on a windy day! 😮Nope! 😂 On another note I have had a bit of a career change which has freed up a few days a week. I am hoping to work part time as a tour guide somewhere so maybe our paths will cross when you are back. Also - I worked in Derry for 6 months once. Good luck with understanding that accent!😂
I had a great time! Would love to see more when I visit again :) Thanks for all the tips - so glad I made myself do the bridge!
Memories of the bridge came flooding back from my younger years. Now i wanna go back and do it again. Great video Phoebe.
From a Belfast lad.
Hi Phoebe. It's a pure joy to watch your videos! Ireland is so beautiful, and you give a good documentation of the beauty of Northern Ireland.Clever done! Look forward to your next adventure!
Thank you soooo much :)
As a local I hate these sites , which are natural being commercialised
Great video, nice you came up north. Derry is a perfect gateway into Donegal, which is a must next time. Belfast has really up'ed it's game the last 30yrs. So much to see there now, especially on a night out. Best of all (anywhere in Ireland) is the people. We're here to try and make any visitor's stay as pleasant as possible, and take great pleasure in doing so.
I'm gonna have to come back again and stay for much longer haha there's SO much more I need to see and do now!
@travelforphoebe For sure, can you please bring the Sun with you...
Always good to hear about the good of that part of Ireland. Normally just conflicts and negativity. You are giving us beautiful scenery and a refreshingly wonderful perspective of Northern Ireland in an exceptionally dignified manner. It speaks volumes about yourselves too. You are true to your "calling" - our Beloved Traveller!
I have been following you a lot whenever I visit my daughter, also called Phoebe. Since the start I liked what saw and I have decided to follow up on all the backdated vlogs too...still lots of catchup to do. Meanwhile also following your latest, like the current experience in Northern Ireland Ireland.
So, until my next encounter, keeping going, but safely. Praying much for you.❤ Gregory
That’s so kind of you 🥹☺️ thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words and support
I remember reading about the Giant's Causeway from a children's encyclopedia when I was a wee lad. Was super intrigued at the time but I had forgotten about it for the past 30yrs+. But thanks to your trip and video, it's now back on the agenda as a place I'd really love to visit. Thank you!
It's pretty spectacular! Would've been amazing to see it from the water or up high to get an even better view!
Hi Phoebe, this is my first time seeing any of your videos, you did a great job. I am a Belfast local, I highly recommend not skipping Titanic Belfast, , it is not your typical museum, infact its not even a museum but an experience with interactive galleries and a dark ride through a recreation of the ship yard, It has won the accolade of the world's top tourist attraction. Other places I highly recommend seeing in Belfast are the free City Hall tour, Stormont Tour, Belfast Castle+Walk up Cavehill, St George's Market, Lady Dixon Park, as for the rest of Northern Ireland, Newcastle & the Mourne Mountains, Glenariff Forest Park & Waterfalls, Binevenagh and so on, I could go on forever. By the way, another thing we like to say about the Titanic is that "she was ok when she left". PS You're also welcome to come along with my free Mourne Mountains hiking group if you fancy a hike.
I brought my Son up a couple of years ago as he was studying the Titanic in primary school, a great experience not to be missed! We had a great time, highly recommended!
WOW thank you SO much for all the tips - I feel like I need another month in Ireland to cover all the spots I missed (at least!) So glad I finally got to visit and fall in love with Ireland, it's so very beautiufl!
This is one of your best videos ever. Welll done, Phoebe. Keep up the great work.
Wow, thank you! 🥰
It's been beautiful to watch Ireland through your eyes, the castles on the bank of sea,the green moss stuck up with walls of castle, the pathway, and the green grass, green Meadows and dell,it's absolutely beautiful and nature draws attention from you,it's amazing ,you did amazing video
Thank you so so much!
Glad you enjoyed our wee country : )
I’m with your Mum Phoebe, there’s no way I would step foot on that bridge 😳🤦🏼♀️😂
Beautiful scenery everywhere, thank you for another great vlog. Happy travels 💕🌻🍀
hahahahaha
Wow what a video. Ireland is so pretty. This video made me happy but made me jealous too. U are so lucky Phoebe to visit this place.. Also thank you so much for showing us Ireland.
Isn't it just gorgeous? It's even more spectacular in real life too :)
this is Northern Ireland not Ireland (Ireland being the constitutional name of the Republic) NI is part of the UK
Ireland is so green. Cant wait to see where u end up next week.
It is soooo lush!
I hope someday I can visit many country, because it was really fun. Travel around the world is one of the best way to get new experience and extensive knowledge.
Thanks for watching!
Great video , really appreciate you enjoying our green & pleasant land.
Thank you so much for watching :)
Hi Phoebe, what an amazing vlog of our wee part of the world. Northern Ireland is so often over looked when people visit Ireland. It looked like you had an amazing time, crammed so much in to your road trip, but my goodness, missed so much as well. NI has so many beautiful places and cool places to visit and things to do, the gobbins cliff path, carrickfergus castle, glens of Antrim, Antrim Coast road, Mourne mountains, Ulster museums, the list goes on.
Thank you for visiting, recording and sharing!
Thank you so much for all the tips :) I feel like I need to visit again for MUCH longer!! There's just so much more I need to see!
Sending love dear Phoebe.
Ive noe introduced my son vic who is Aussie to your Chanel hes one in a few weeks . It's so hot today.
In Australia.
Sending love
Thank you so so much Chloe :)
Can't be a perfect timing than this, I was planning to go on a road trip through NI end of this month, and this is one of the first and best video I came across, awesome 👌 Thanks ❤️
Perfect timing! I’m so glad you found the video and that it’s helpful 🙌🏻🇮🇪
I lived in Northern Ireland with my x wife for years and I loved it and the people there's good and bad all over the world I loved my ulster fry 😊it's a special country my great grandparents are from co wexford lol from me in England 😊
I can definitely see why you loved it :) the scenery is gorgeous, the food is amazing and the people were so lovely!!
Wow .. spectacular scenery- looked cold though!! Loved the historical facts you included too !
Thanks Ben ☺️
I’m learning a whole lot about the world watching your videos. Ireland look so beautiful; I work with a lot of Irish nurses and I can understand why so many of them have moved to Australia (I think it’s a combination of the how busy the work is and the weather)
So glad you're learning so much from the videos :) Thanks for watching this one!
Housing that and there was a freeze on hiring medical staff in public jobs. Loads came back during covid and they weren't offered a permanent job.
Wowww! Those rock formations are unreal!
Right?! They look like they were made by aliens 👽
I visited Royal County Down golf club recently to watch the Irish Open, and its a really beautiful area, the course is nestled between the Mourne mountains and the sea. Gorgeous spot ...
This video is amazing. Ireland is so beautiful. You ought to go to Prague next and show us medieval European buildings. Keep up the safe travels. You are living the dream.
Thank you so much!! Oooh I’d love to go to Prague!
So beautiful place i wish to visit it too
Glad you enjoyed Northern Ireland. I think it has quite a negative reputation further a field so glad you ignored that and came on up!
Hi Phoebe glad you enjoyed Ireland so much. The Titanic museum is brilliant even if you think you might not be into it and a black cab tour of Belfast is a must, so interesting and informative. Hopefully you will come back to Ireland again, as you said there is still so much more to discover. Enjoy your next country. Love all of your videos. 👍
I'll have to check it out on my next visit! Thanks for the tip :)
great video series on Ireland...One day maybe i will get to go..
I hope you get to visit soon!
When you were in Botanic Gardens you were literally just yards away from the Ulster Museum which sits in the top end of the park. Closing time 5pm, admission free. Various exhibits.
That's unbelievably frustrating haha I wish I'd known! :(
The tow path along the Lagan river,a great walk….
Thanks for the tip!
the wild flowers are soo pretty ! 🌷
right?! :)
Harriet and I had a wonderful time in Derry and Belfast. We found the cuisine exceptional . We did a foodie and a history tour with a guide. Well worth it. We did do the Titanic Museum,
It was worth a look . Took a black car tour that talks about the turmoil of the past. The guide was quite informative and entertaining about Belfast. Phoebe, do go back. Hope you enjoyed your time there. Sending Best Wishes🙏🙏 and Safe Travels from 💞💞Harriet, Jim and Yuki currently visiting Washington, D.C.
Oh that all sounds fantastic! Great way to experience it! Thank you ☺️🙌🏻
Northern Ireland is one of those places everyone had heard about but few realise what a fab place it is, Lots to do and see not expensive and some really friendly people personally I absolutely love the place 😎 x
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video! Planning to do Northern Ireland in 2025 and you’ve got me so excited!
You’re gonna love it! ☺️🙌🏻
The Vlog Mobile 😂🚗 Pheobe you make me cry I love it 🤣 You make me discover part of Ireland I haven't heard of 😊 I don't know if you heard of the Channel Islands last year I went to Jersey Island which in between the UK and France and I love it there just in case you need ideal for future travel 😊 Take care 😇
😂🙌🏻 glad you enjoyed my lil joke haha thank you so much for the tip!! Will have to add to my travel Wishlist 🥰
@@travelforphoebe My pleasure if you need I did some videos on my channel 😊 have a nice day 😊
Hi from Ireland, glad you enjoyed your time here. I would recomend the Black cab tour of Belfast also Ulster Museum, so much more to see. Definitely do the ring of Kerry (stunning). Come for a longer trip next time.
Thanks so much for the tips! So much more I need to see and do :)
Looked like a mild day at "Dunlow Castle" 😊
Dunloy!!!!
I’m from Derry but live in Belfast so have a fair bit of knowledge of both cities. There’s so much to do in both cities in terms of culture, history and just downright exploring and what’s great is there is something for everyone to discover and explore. The food scene in both cities is incredible, lots of street food and start up restaurants as well as the trusted older restaurants that have been around for a while. Lots of markets, museums and of course great nightlife in both cities with live music. Belfast is a much bigger city experience if that’s your thing but if you aren’t really a city person then Derry isn’t too big and the perfect city to explore and spend a weekend.
Derry Tips:
Tower Museum
Walls guided tours
Murals Tours
Derry Girls Mural
Free Derry Museum
The Siege Museum / Apprentice Boys
Guildhall
Peace Bridge
Ebrington Square
Riverside walk
Walled City Brewery
St Columbs Park
Paedar O’Donnells (trad music / drink)
Many many restaurants and pubs and city centre shops.
Generally the city is just very historic but if you really want to have a good time in Derry then Halloween is the time to visit as it is renowned for being the number one place to visit for Halloween in the world with its carnaval feel and everyone dresses up.
Belfast Tips:
Comon Market
St George’s Market
City Centre full of shops, pubs / restaurants
Botanic Park (Botanical Garden)
Ulster Museum
Queens University
QUT (Queens Film Theatre)
Black Taxi Tours of Peace Wall
Escape Rooms
Titanic Museum
Mac (When it has good exhibitions)
Sports (Belfast Giants Ice Hockey and Ulster Rugby)
40mins south of Belfast is the GOT studio tour.
The beauty of both cities is you aren’t ever far from nature and somewhere to relax or be active in nature with the many beaches, mountains and hills you can explore aswell as ancient forests and some magical spots you would never know existed.
Thank you SO much for all the tips! I'm gonna have to visit again I think :)
Phoebe, the black taxi tour is a must in Belfast!
A few people have mentioned this in the comments and now I'm soooo upset! I can't believe I didn't see it anywhere when I was reaching things to do :( I feel like I missed out so bad!
I've travelled to every country on these islands, and every capital city. By far Béal Feirste (Belfast) is the friendlest capital city, with London and Caerdydd the worst. The rest of N.I. is very friendly.
Awesome video Legend ❤ had me 😂😂 ❤️♥️⚘️♥️⚘️🌞🤟
Glad you enjoyed
Beautiful nature
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! Some tips for next time:
In good weather, Divis & Black Mountain on the edge of Belfast (or alternatively climb Cave Hill)
Downhill/Benone & Mussenden Temple
The parts of the Causeway Coast route that you missed: Ballintoy, Ballycastle, Cushendun, Torr Head, Cushendall, Glenariff, Glenarm, etc.
Some of the above were, of course, GoT locations (plus a potential detour to The Dark Hedges)
The area around Strangford Lough is criminally overlooked by most tourists
The Mourne Mountains
Rathlin Island
Lough Erne & Fermanagh in general
Trust me, it'll take you at least a week. There are very few places in the world where so much is packed into such a small area!
Oh my gosh, I feel like I need at least another 4 weeks in Ireland to do it properly! I can't quite believe how much I missed and how much I want to see now - this first trip was such a great introduction to the country :) Can't wait to visit again!
Great Coast line,See Scotland on a clear day
Enjoying. Irish culture ☘️
Definitely!
And you ignored the Antrim Coast Road, a 30 mile drive with the sea on one side of you and beautiful green hills on the other side.
Hiya! Rain and overcast, that sounds like the typical UK/Irish weather. I’d rather pay 31 GBP than 45 EUR for my fuel. The landscape is breathtaking, regardless of the weather. Dunlace castle looks great. That bridge oer the sea, through the nature, is so beautiful. Sad that you couldn’t make it in time, but good that you still had time to walk around the botanical garden. I’ll be catching up in 2 weeks as I’m going to Spain this Thursday. Thanks for sharing your Ireland adventure and have a great week ahead 🤙
Have the BEST time in Spain! ☺️🙌🏻
Dunluce castle can also be seen in the Led Zeppelin film "The song remains the same"
WOW! I had no idea :)
You should check out County Donegall, not a long drive from where you are now.
Thank you so much for the tips!! :)
The Palm House is literally 60 seconds walk to the Ulster Museum (entry is free).
Seriously?! That's so frustrating - I wish I'd known! :(
@@travelforphoebe You weren't to know. You probably accessed the park via a different entrance. The Museum is on the right as you enter the front gate. You will know next time.
The last time I felt as cold as you looked Phoebe, was walking along the sea front at Port Lincoln Sth Aust.. the bitterly cold Antarctic wind burnt into our faces ❄️🧤🧣🥶.. not very pleasant at all so even though I am of Irish ancestry I think I will be visiting in summertime😂
hahahaha yeah it's a bit fresh! Thanks for watching :)
You totally missed trad music at Sandino’s girl! ☘️🇮🇪
Noooooooooo! I gotta visit again!
Absolutely fantastic 🍀🍀😘
Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
I am an Australian living in northern Ireland since 2018. There is a lot more to NI for sure, including many games of thrones filming locations like the dark hedges and Castle Ward. Also can visit the grave site of St Patrick in Downpatrick the St that causes the world to get drunk 1 day a year 😂
1. The titanic museum is actually brilliant and I'm not into the titanic either as its not just about the ship but the history of NI.
2. Games of thrones studio tour is a must for any GOT fans. Look a white walker in the eyes its creepy
3. There is an array of very old pubs like Kelly's cellar dating back to 1700s with live traditional Irish music and the Crown Liquor Saloon
4. Black taxi tour to learn the history of The Troubles
5. St Georges Market especially on Saturday and have a Belfast bap
And thats just a few things that I consider things you must do in Belfast and not to be missed
A night out in Belfast on a Friday or Saturday night is also good craic as they say here
I’m from Belfast although moved to England many many years ago. I willalways consider Belfast my home and the best place by far in the UK.
I’d agree with Sharon’s list above. You have loads more GofT locations to see. A must is a political black can tour to understand The Troubles which is such a defining and important part of Belfast’s recent history.
And you definitely haven’t “done” Belfast until you have experienced a real night out around some of the fabulous local pubs with plenty of live music and Belfast craic 😂
Thank you sooooo much for all the tips!! 🥰🙌🏻
The Irish, whether it’s in the north or in the Republic or lovely the Irish are wonderful people
Totally agree - Everybody I met was so lovely and welcoming!
Did you end up having breakfast at that BnB?
Lovely video as always
I did and it was lovely! Thanks for watching this one :)
❤ very impressive vlog well done😂
Thank you!! 😁
I carry a long scarf when travelling. 🧣 I can wrap it around my neck or my head. I can also wrap it around my waist if the hotel room is cold.
I had ALL my jumpers and socks on hahaha
You’ve things like ‘the dark hedges’ plus Balintoy harbour I think they were both in Game if Thrones, around the corner from Balintoy you’ve Bothy coffee which is a nice stop along the coast. Used to live in straya years ago, year in Syd then 6 months around the east coast, need to get back for a trip to see a few m8’s and Nrl finals or Origin
I definitely need to visit again and stay for MUCH longer :)
Yeah good for me you I sometimes think we take it for granted how lucky we are with the close proximity of countries in Europe. One of my Qld m8’s moved from Gold Coast to Bribie island it looks 🔥
I always think there should be a smaller version called the Gnat's Causeway.
😂😂😂
You didn't miss much with the Titanic museam. I've heard the Titanic hotel does a beautiful afternoon tea.
Thanks for watching! :)
U did actually!!
That white botanical garden building is very similar to the building in Sherlock Holmes video games.
It was gorgeous!!
Disappointed u didn't try the iconic Ulster Fry or the spectacular Titanic museum!
It's Dunluce Castle!!!
Happy ❤❤
🙌🏻
@6.50 I saw a UFO late one night whilst driving through here..
Loved this and Ireland is beautiful! How did you find driving in the UK - did you get an automatic or manual?
Suuuuper easy! I got an automatic :)
Id love to see old historical places in Europe
Thanks for watching!
Hello Phoebe!
Thanks for watching!
Petrol station - a lot of Irish would use that term 😂 or filling station 😊
Hahaha thanks for clearing that up!
A PINT AND A PIE 😅😮😢😮😅😊
Dunluce Castle
Thanks for watching!
That bridge and that wind was not a good combination!! I would have not liked that. I would have wanted to see the Titanic Museum.
hahaha it was pretty wild! Glad I did it - the views of the coastline were incredible!
btw its "DUN LUCE" not "DUN LOW"
You are SO right about all of it. 'The food removal' is a great way to rename the famine. Get this man into the Dail 🙏
You missed out the Antrim Coast Road?, you wasted your journey 😢
0:23 😍
also Northern Ireland is not "technically " Part of the UK, it IS Part of the UK the name of the UK is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland "
You didn't go aboard the Nomadic in Belfast?
What is that?
@@travelforphoebe the Last White Star ship, a tender ship for the RMS Titanic.
Great video. Wrong flag 🇬🇧
Changed!
Incredibly contentious to choose one flag over the other. About half the population here accept the UK "Union Jack" as their flag, and the other half the Ireland "Tricolour" as the flag. You are best including both or neither, but choosing one over the over is probably going to cause an argument.
getting an international drivers license is easy?
It was for me in Australia
As someone from Mexico iam visiting Dublin in November .I was thinking about going to Northern Ireland but I've read things it could be a dangerous place for a Catholic ?
Just avoid talking about religion and politics and you'll be fine.
No it is only if you were Catholic AND irish
Irish American and Catholic and visited in 2016. No problems people were so happy that the Good Friday agreement had bought some normalcy to their lives. I took the Black Taxi tour of the sights of the troubles (must see!) loyalist and republican areas, even went to Sinn Fein headquarters since our driver was IRA. He loved the peace, his grandkids could go downtown and he didn't have to worry. He loved they were living life. His son had become the first Catholic Lord Mayor of Belfast. Our hotel's parking lot had been the scene of a giant bonfire days before on the 11th night. It was a far cry from 1999 when I drove my rental car with Irish Republic plates into the north on the eve of the marching season on a quest to see the giants causeway from Donegal. Our landlady warned us to get out of the north before sunset. "They won't hurt you but they may burn your car." We also toured the Bushmills Distillery and the beautiful young guide who was likely Protestant when she saw me looking at the orange hand flags offered, "I wish this would all go away so I could be proud of my home". From the video Phoebe sent it seems they've continued their progress. So go! Enjoy! There are nice people there and I would gladly go back!
A Scouse Mexican? Nice try 🤦
@@ksc743 He’s just a bigot stirring I recognise his profile he’s Scouse, some people have way too much time on their hands 🤦
stay in hostels it's more fun and chaotic lol meet a lot of ppl from all over
Who this place
Wow! You are tough ,but be careful for solo journey , especially in female!
Such a grey depressing island
You have used the wrong flag for Northern Ireland as Northern Ireland flag is 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Changed!
You didn't visit Balintoy Harbour 😮, another film set from Games of Thrones , you totally wasted your journey to Northern Ireland girl , I'll not be subscribing , lacks content big time
Northern Ireland is Lovely. But it's too political,Flags What's your Surname & how do you spell it to identify if your Catholic or protestant.Nobody gives a crap in the South. As Long as your Sound!😊
Apart from certain areas it's a lot more normal now. People just get on with stuff. There is none of that where I live.
@@youngcrippenI don’t know about that. Is it as bad as the 80s? Absolutely not. But it’s not normal to drive through villages festooned with flags, painted kerbs and banners across the street. Murals of lads with assault rifles and balaclavas. People gawking at the reg on your car. It’s better but it’s still not “normal”.
@@DreynoThat still happens - don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's a defining characteristic any more. We still have slow learners who haven't caught up with the rest of us.
@@youngcrippen Maybe when you live amongst it, you don’t see it quite as starkly. As someone from down Mexico way (half an hour from the border) the dysfunction still sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s no longer debilitating the place like it used to but it’s really very odd.
Odd maybe, but sadly in 2024 not as odd as it should be. I've been in a number of big European cities where dividing lines are at least as stark, just not down the same axis. It's not a good thing. I do live a genuinely untroubled (pardon the pun) life with absolutely no issue about walking down any street anywhere. Bizarrely the only time I have been asked what foot I kick with was in Glasgow - twice in one day.
The first thing youll probably notice about up here is how horrible the roads are compared to down south. Watch out for those potholes
