  • Today, we analyse the active aerodynamics of the Ferrari LaFerrari, which includes active front and rear diffusers, as well as an active rear spoiler. The Ferrari was my middle ground from the Hypercars, largely because I considered its spoiler too conservative and would have preferred an active wing.

Really need to have the lights off...and just a "Spot light on you" so the images are easier to see.

Very interesting, great job! Thanks for expanding my knowledge of the laferrari

    ferrari has a wing policy
they are not gonna use wings on their cars to produce downforce, which explains the lip spoiler (look it up)

bucketslash11 Intriguing, given the F40, F50 and FXX all had rear wings... Weird policy to bring in now...

KYLE.DRIVES the policy does not regard racing cars/XX-cars
and yes the F40 and F50 seems to have gotten away from that policy, i'll see if i can find something official:
"A rear wing was rejected because engineers consider them kludges and, as Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo declared after helicoptering in to Fiorano from nearby Bologna, "I find them vulgar."
From Automobile, February 2014, on the 458 Speciale"
      found it on oppositelock
i don't think enzo ferrari was a fan of wings either
i still don't see the reason, more surface area to create downforce with, though drag increases usually when a wing is added and if the wing folds in then it shouldn't be a problem

+bucketslash11 If an aerodynamics engineer who has an wind tunnel at his/her disposal r needs a massive rear wing to create downforce, you know he/she is not the right aerodynamics engineer for your company. Ferrari has some of the most genius aerodynamics engineers in the world so they know what they are doing.

+Sam R Completely correct. It is well known that wings are just there for looks and are only put on there by ricers like Hondas and McLarens.
95% of all downforce can be generated by the floor of the car and by pointing the exhaust exits upwards and using the thrust to push the car into the ground.
That is why drag cars are so fast.

Correct, they think that wings don’t look elegant, hence why they don’t put them on road cars. In fact, on the P80/C they put a wing that can be taken off in case you’re taking the car to a concourse d’elegance (they literally said that this way!). Definitely a weird company…

Kyle...in your Opinion...would much quicker (track, top speed) would an ACR Viper have been if it had all the active aero bits?

The 458 Speciale features a very similar aero package to LaFerrari. I wouldn't be surprised if both act not much different in same conditions.
Great video as always. I'm pretty sure Ferrari engineers wouldn't like it.

Laferrari's aero design is so clever that it didn't need a massive rear wing. Also, the reeason for rear wing is downforce. Laferrari doesn't need that much downforce as it compensates for it with its incredible traction control/electronics. Also, by looking at the body design, you can see the areas of high pressure at the back of the car. Laferrari took them nearly 10 years to develope, a lots of wind tunnel testing and input from their F1 team added to its incredible aero design.
I under its diffuser, it creates pressure incredibly low to suck the car downward. The rear spoiler is there to slow down the air and create high pressure on the top. Totally different approach to those of p1 and koenigsegg.

110% correct. Anybody with half a brain knows that the most aerodynamically efficient cars in terms of negative lift to drag coefficients are Formula Ford and Formula Vee race cars, and they do not have any wings.
95% percent of all aerodynamic grip a car generates can be provided by traction control systems.
Wings are entirely superfluous. This is most vividly demonstrated by rockets which launch space vehicles- why would a plane need wings when a rocket can travel higher without them. It is obvious to anyone with eyes and not lobotomized that wings on cars are completely uneeded so long as you have rockets.

WWYD78 Ah but that's only because Earth's atmosphere stretches many light years into space, so while you're technically correct it still stands that rockets are more aerodynamic than anything with wings because all the Earth air in space would slow them down if they weren't aerodynamic.

KYLE.DRIVES how much would you charge?

    • @KYLEENGINEERS
      @KYLEENGINEERS  9 лет назад +2

Ali Ahadi Depends on what you want, I really need a lot more info to quote, like:
Photos (More is better, Clearer is better)
Race type (Drag, Circuit, Off Road, Autocross)
      What tracks and surfaces
Specs of Car (Power, weight, current peak lateral G)
Copy of regulations that we can inspect
How much/what type of work you want done
You can run all this through the business email under the about tab on my channel if you want a quote. To give you a rough idea, my charge out rate is 175AUD/hour, which isn't bad when you consider a good mechanic charges 110AUD/hour

KYLE.DRIVES Sounds good, when the engine is finalized I'll hit you back up. The shop I'm working with keeps changing up things. So it's either going to be a turbo 4cylinder, V6 or V8. The body is a IMSA Celica GTU Replica. Your rate sounds reasonable considering the work that is involved. Thank you for the response.

You've got to get your audio levels sorted out. There's no reason for your intro to be so God damned loud. Are you trying to blow the speakers of your viewers? Not only is your intro substantially louder than the average volume of most considerate RUclipsrs intros the content of the video is half the volume. It's absolutely ridiculous.
