Sailing on her soon to Alaska in Neptune Suite Balcony Suite. We now always book an Aft Neptune Suite and love it. Koingsdam Aft Balcony suite in April 2024 also. Plus deck 7 is the same floor as the Neptune Lounge. The views we like better aft than port or starboard cabins. Just need to look at deck plan above you! Stayed in Neptune Suite on Zaandam in Feb 2023 for 14 day Panama Canal. The Lido deck was directly above us and heard the food carts going late into the night. No cool. Safe sailings and thanks for sharing.
The room key is a game changer! And yes, we will throw in some comparisons with Regent as we release new content. There were a few things on HAL that we enjoyed more than on Regent, entertainment and enrichment for two. But that review is coming!
Great video 🎉never cruised this line. However the annual jazz cruise l attended is going on this ship in 2025 so l am doing some research. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much for your comments! As you could probably tell from the video, we really love Nieuw Amsterdam and Holland America. Sure, Nieuw Amsterdam is a bit older, a bit smaller, and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of their newer fancier ships, but it is one of our favorites. And it will probably be a perfect ship for the jazz cruise. Hope you give her a try!
Thank you for the most thorough tour I have ever seen of a verandah cabin on the Nieux Amsterdam, including your informative thoughts on choosing an aft location!
Very interesting. What it lacks in modern/contemporary décor, it makes up for in space and comfort; and we often feel that is the best trade off when choosing older ships.
Although we were first surprised by how beige everything one, we learned to love our little verandah stateroom. It was roomy, comfortable, and had a fantastic cabin attendant. It turned out to be great all around.
If you pack an over-the-door shoe organizer and hang it on the inside of the bathroom door, it provides a great place to place toiletries and other items that tend to take up shelf/cabinet space.
That's a great tip. We have taken a shoe organizer with us in the past, but have forgotten to bring it on our last view sailings. Thanks for the reminder, though, it will likely come in handy when we sail on Volendam in a few weeks!
@callingallports thanks so much for the review. My parents will be staying in this exact unit. My mother is asking if there's a hairdryer in the bathroom...we didn't see one. Usually at hotels they hang on the wall over the sink. Could you please clarify?
Thank you so much for watching! There is a hairdryer located in the vanity unit in the main part of the cabin. I hope your parents enjoy the cabin - it was so spacious and had great aft views. And our room steward was top notch!
I was somewhat disappointed. The stateroom & even the hall areas shown seemed to lack something. I like muted shades without too much bling, but not almost boring. Thanks for the informative video!!
The room is definitely muted, that is for sure. I think an artwork update would make a big difference. Fortunately, the ship is great - we didn’t spend a lot of time in our cabin. Thanks for your feedback!
We certainly love our smaller ships, but we decided we need to check out a bigger one this year - we'll be sailing on Norwegian Encore in November. It's not the biggest out there, it is only 4000 passengers, but it will be the largest for us - by far.
Never ever book a cabin on this ship close to the elevator. The louver in the door let’s in all the noise of the elevator’s arrivals (very loud dings), and conversations of the guests. We had to put pillows against it to lessen its intrusive noise. Complain to the front desk and they will offer you earplugs!
That's a good tip. We try to book away from the elevator for that very reason. And fortunately, we did not hear any noise from our neighboring cabins. Which deck were you on when you heard all this noise?

We are tempted by the suites. Perhaps next time we will book a Neptune. Thanks for watching and have a great time in Alaska!
Good tip about the room key thing! Throw in some comparisons with Regent as you go along please.. And have a fun journey!!

Amazing video
Thanks so much! We’ll have more Holland America footage in the upcoming weeks!

Id love to see you go on one of the mega ships to see your reactions.

Would like to see layout for handicap rooms
We weren’t able to film any accessible rooms, but I think @travelingwithachair has a video on one.

Why would you sit on the arm of the love seat?
Perhaps it’s not a question of why, but why not? The rest being for an arm is just an arbitrary decision.
Do you do presentation on dining?
Not yet, though it is something we will be working on soon!
Great video. This cabin looks much bigger than the aft verandah I stayed in

Thanks so much. It was a very large cabin. Our recent one on Koningsdam was much smaller.
Love the video but leave out the music!
