I v e said it before but I'll say it again , getting old .(78yrs young) I've learned a few things and one of them is that one of the saddest phrases in the English language or any other .language for that matter is , I SHOULD HAVE , I've been lucky enough to do everything on my bucket list and good job I have as now I have medical problems that would have prevented me from doing so now or in the future ,remember your a long time dead , so get off your collective arses and just do stuff , everything is achievable if you want it bad enough there's always a way and its better than sitting around later in life wishing , I SHOULD HAVE

Good luck in trying to find a house to rent in Australia, there's a huge housing shortage in all capital cities. That's the big stress here. There's a lot of people couch surfing or living in their cars.

I know you have established a theme of advising potential emigrants X U.K., but might I suggest that you extend that into "showing" why, not just chatting and trying to embarrass " the maybe's " or the "one days", and annoy the living sh*t out of them by showing them the reality that is this wonderful area of Australia.

As a dual citizen UK/Australian who has lived and worked in both countries on and off for 35 years one of the trickiest timing issues is GBP/$AUD exchange rates. Over my time I have seen the rate vary from 1.50 $ to the pound to $2.60 to the pound. Partly because $AUD is a very heavily traded, resource based currency. It is only a decade or so ago when it was worth more than the US $. This can make a huge difference if you are looking for the sale of a UK house to finance an Australian one. I cannot speculate on what will happen except to say UK economy is not looking crash hot now. Some people say lease your house in the UK. Certainly a strategy but as I know as I have assets in both countries once you become tax resident in Australia, the Australian Tax Office taxes you on income generated anywhere in the world. There is no such ting as a "non dom" in Australia. It might be OK if you claim a mortgage as a deduction. I wish I had used UK accountants who knew about Australian tax rules. You do not want to fall foul of the ATO when applying for visa extensions etc. Thanks for the channel.

Been thinking of doing this for a few years. My wife is half Australian so should be able to get an ancestral passport and I should be able to go on the back of that with a spousal visa. We have a one year old and are super stressed here all th time. We both have good jobs and good family and friends but feel we should just go and experience it. We have a house and mortgage would you just sell up and go or keep the house and see how we get on. We've been to Aus 6 times between us and love it.

I would think twice, unless you are up for an increasingly totalitarian government and ever more restrictive 'freedoms'.
And let's not get into Australia (and New Zealand) being front-runners for every decision the WHO makes.
Medical autonomy is being eaten away.
But, lots of folks are good with that so, if you are also, everything else makes Australia a wonderful place.
