My parents brought me to Australia when I was a teenager & although I didn’t realise it at the time it opened up opportunities for me that I could only have dreamed of. My wife & I now live on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane having raised our own family & witnessed our children grow & prosper in the land down under

Hi Mal. I also migrated with my family and we experienced the same, like so many other migrants. Thank goodness we decided not to go to France, or worse still America.

I came from England in 1964 and live in Melbourne. I love it completely and agree with your comments about Australians, especially that we embrace other cultures and won't tolerate abusive behaviour. I recently lived in Vietnam and Africa and it made me realise how wonderful it is here.

@@SP-free Just thought you'd like to know. Going overseas I was scammed by Nigerian men and became homeless 3 times returning to Australia. This last time I thought I would end it all, until this incredible organisation called 'Wintringham' rescued me. Now I live on the 11th floor in Melbourne overlooking a beautiful park (Lincoln Square) and the city sky line. They made a video of me thanking Wintringham for saving my life. Now I live in the best place in Australia. Dreams can come true and I have been helped by angels. Thank you in particular to Bryan Lipman, the founder.

As a kid in Australia, I was taught that everyone is equal, from the local Garbo (Rubbish Collector) to a wealthy Business person or a brilliant Scientist. I was taught to respect them all as equally human. That is why I, and many more Australians, struggle with the concept of Royalty. While I am happy that some countries see Royalty as the thread that keeps their countries together and helps tourism, I will never bow to any human or address them as if they were a higher human being and I was a lower form, and I still believe that Royalty aren't anymore special than the local hardworking Garbo. Yes, Australia has a long connection to English Royalty, but that will wane when one day when Australia becomes a Republic.

    • @TheBAMFamalam

It seems peculiar that anyone would think differently. We are rather fond of the royal family, we are currently watching the Crown, there’s a lot that we didn’t know x

We are a part of the Commonwealth and that also means royalty. I don’t understand why some Australians want to become a republic. You do understand that this would mean “we stand alone” in a country that has high resources and lots of land with little military and no allies to protect us. Go figure!

There's many lovely places on Earth to live, but no place has more to offer in totality than Australia. That our national informal sport is arguing among ourselves as to *which* Aussie destination is indeed the best in the world tells you a lot. Thank you for choosing Australia, and it's great to hear it's worked out so well for you all.

  • @PeteV.53

my parents migrated from Europe. They had the choice of the USA, NZ or South Africa. I will be eternally grateful to them for choosing Australia. I love travel (69 countries at last count) and truly enjoy experiencing other cultures; and I have lived overseas for extended periods (three different countries). However, when its all said and done there is no country other than Australia that I would choose to live in permanently, as my home.

Here's a tip on the mulch. Tree loppers would gladly drop off their loads for free to you as they will have to pay if they dump it to the tip. Gum trees are good chips as the weeds can't stand oil in the wood. So it's good for the garden to spread around.

Another lovely video, and your dog is just beautiful!!! We used 7Seas when we moved from the States. We had decided not to bring furniture with us but there were plenty of other things that we did want. We packed our items ourselves in their really sturdy boxes. It took 3 months for our items to cross the ocean which worked very well for us. None of our things were broken, although there was a slight dent in a cake pan. I definitely recommend 7Seas as they delivered exactly what they advertised. It isn't easy trying to navigate the visa/moving overseas situation, so having a service like this makes life a lot easier.

Your right about the beaches though , there's a secluded pristine beach within reach of practically everyone , mine is 9 miles long (I'm old and don't do kilometres) and sparsely occupied most of the time and if I want I can travel north or south and find lakes ,bays and other isolated beaches . I've been to Hawaii, Tahiti the Cook Islands and Fiji and believe me we have nothing to worry about when it comes to unspoiled breaches even Bondi our busiest beach is cleanner than some of the overseas tourist icons .

I have a BA (Hons.) degree and a masters degree in Photography but because I haven't been able to get any work using these qualifications it makes them worthless even though there is a demand for people with my photographic skills, I don't see the logic in that it's a wasted opportunity as far as I can see.

In the center of Sydney it might be safer because of a lot more police presence and CTV as well as the need to protect tourists and the image but go to the suburbs and it’s thefts and break ins and violence every day of the week. So you must be living in another country. Are you willing to let your daughter walk up the street to the shops after dark. Over here there are kids that ride their bikes down the darkest alley ways at 11oclock at night after cram school. Can’t do that in Aus. In the 70s 80s and 90s you could do that in Aus too. Even small country towns now you can’t. Aus needs to somehow fix its unbelievable level of needless violence and people with no respect. I grew up in the Isa and Cairns a s well as living on theGoldy. Things are a lot different now

On a quiet beautiful sunny morning last year some idiot driving up ahead was busy going around others in the most deplorable way possible deliberately angrily causing havoc with each pass of a car (yeah the d head was so hopeless he couldn’t pass more than one at a time - idiot!).
As I viewed the scene ahead my ire increased - hell NO ONE was getting their own back - they all just took it!
No way mate I thought - not today f wit! (Yeah I am that B).

Sounds a bit ‘look at me’ I get that but I coulda waxed lyrically bout saving groups of teens over the years during Schoolies or stepping in between blokes (strangers) over the years to ask if the obvious victims needed help.
    Wots happening with the world!
People just walk on by or in the case of schoolies drive around (oh yeah baby I’ll block a Rd with my car if it’s obvious the rest of civilization won’t stop & help - jeez that pisses me off).
I’m a 52 kilo 160 centimeter not as young as I used to be female so WTF! Where has all the traditional Oz stepping up thing gone!

If Australians do not care about how people live or have a class mentality as I understand here. Then it is more similar to thinking like here in Scandinavia. We also have the "Jante law here" that seems similar: Don`t think you are better than anyone else.

Our new minimum wage goes up to $22.70 from April this year. We have slightly higher living costs here though compared to Australia.

Products can cost more in NZ and your dollar buys less than the Australian dlooar compared to the US Dollar. I know because I work in Distribution and a lot of products we make here in Australia or are imported from China and Europe are an afterthought when being then sent to NZ, if at all. Sorry, a fact of population size. And just like why things are cheaper in the US compared to Australia.

Well into my 60's. Australia has changed somewhat, we used to be far more laid back. The biggest difference I have noticed is government regulation and intrusion into our lives.

Having visited qld as a non Anglo the amount of racism from the white Australians towards me is incredible. It’s not always true that people are very anti bad behaviour to people.
Perhaps your experience is different as a white passing person but people would refuse to engage with me due to my ethnicity.

I’m 50, white and have witnessed far too much racism for my liking in Australia. Especially towards Aborigines and asians and lately it’s the anti-Muslim fad. It’s certainly not a majority and I’d like to think things have gotten better but there is always some group being targeted by the angry haters of society.
