  • Once again, it's FOLEY & MILES !!
Playing one of FOLEY's tunes that had become a staple in the 80's
with MILES' set lists. The Skoolin' continues.....
    Enjoy,

Miles was just a conductor kickin back in the later years with awesome world class musicians doing the work with a very pin point critical eye and long solo's

My GOODNESS! I'm surprised that bass ain't on fire after that! I had his CD back in the day and loved the whole thing!
His music was unbelievably innovative and the female singer's voice was just a perfect choice. I can't remember her name. I think it was Bonita something.
But anyway I had never heard this version of the Senate until now. That was powerful!
I just love how just when you think it was too funky for words, they kept bringing it back again!!
    Thanks for the feels, Smartalec

My boss at work saw Miles during this tour and he was going "I hear John Scofield but I don't see him, what's going on here?" Until he noticed that it was Foley doing all that awesome leads.

Great player. His tone and phrasing remind me of Mike Stern, but with thicker, throatier sound.

would you say that the theme in the first seconds (00:00-00:20) is played by the (rythm) bass player with effects or is it the keyboards? (there is another keyboard player on the other side of the stage, not the one who appears on 00:09)

Foley chose to play lead on a bass. He is not the bass player in any Miles work.

Foley was a pioneer of the piccolo bass (strung with strings one octave higher like a guitar, but on a bass body). Depending on who's taking notes he's either listed as bass or guitar. I was a young bass player in 1991 when I saw "Miles Davis & Friends at La Villette 1991" (still a favorite of mine) and didn't know what the heck he was playing. Now I routinely carry both a normal bass and a piccolo bass, specifically because of that video and its influence on me.
