- Four years before he became Ward Cleaver, Hugh Beaumont played an ex-con on "The Big Squeeze" episode of The Adventures of Superman on Sept. 25, 1953, in black-and-white.
George Reeves was the best Superman in my opinion. He even played Clark Kent better, with confidence in himself, and no signs of clumsiness.
RIP George.
I agree although I posted this just to show Hugh Beaumont
I agree, although I posted this edited video to show Hugh Beaumont's performance
I agree he was 100% manly as Clark Kent and Superman I couldn't understand why Christopher Reeve acted nerdy doing Clark
Reeve acted like that to further the ploy. Superman stands up straight with his chest out and is confident. Clark slumps his shoulders and is not confident.
@@FilmThePoliceFTP Well he didn't have to. George Reeves didn't act like a clumsy idiot, and he still was able to keep everyone from identifying him as Superman.
George Reeves was the very best Superman. RIP George Reeves. You have been my Hero for 74 years now and will remain my Hero forever. U.S. Army, Ret. Texas
That intro where he's standing in front of the 48 star flag and the announcer says "fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way" still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Now in 2019 look at the swamp, the corrupt media, all the totally unethical shit politicians that just care about money/power and not America. I probably shouldn't make this political but Trump may be all that stands between the old America and some new socialist nightmare. We really do need superman more than ever.
@@wrotenwasp If you think Trump is the only problem in this country, then the lying media has succeeded. Truth be told, ALL the politicians of today sold out our country.
Richard Herrington ......me too Richard! ....I watched him after school at a friends apt. .....I now have all those on CD that I was able to buy at Best Buy! 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Amen Richard. George Reeves is the one & only Superman. Seasons 1& 2 are the best.
Thank God Superman saved Ward four years prior to the start of Leave It To Beaver.
Beaumont was a second choice to play Ward Cleaver . Casey Adams played the part in the pilot but Beaumont was hired to play the part in the series .
Rest in peace hugh Beaumont
I always wondered what Ward did when he left the office. Now I know.
That is funny!
These are two underrated actors
Hugh was quite a handsome man.
June Cleaver certainly thought so also.
My favorite television shows as a child were "Superman" and "Leave it To Beaver". R.I.P. Hugh and George.
Me too.
@@JohnPMitten stop lying.

I wish the loose fitting suits from the 50's would make a comeback. The were sharp looking and must have been comfortable.
I wish the "Patriotism" of the 50's would make a comeback.
I agree
@@WG-tt6hk Yeah we need more patriots like Joe Mc Carthy and Roy Cohn.
When this was over, Ward talked to Superman about responsibility: to others, to himself, to society. Superman understood.
Well, he was a Presbyterian minister! Did he thank Superman for doing all the heavy lifting (I can't remember, I think he did)?
@@johnamaral1786 Yes, I know who he was. I was not speaking literally, just commenting on the moral authority that "Ward Cleaver" always had on the air, how respected he was during his life time.
@@jimquantic Yeah, I got it. I was making a little (sorry, I forgot to add my iconic smiley face) joke. The real intent of my comment was the question of whether the character Hugh was portraying actually thanked Superman for helping him earn the citizenship award. /:-)
@@johnamaral1786 I understood John, I think we of that era were all fans of both these men, probably on and off the screen as well
@@jimquantic Yes! I agree, if it's not true...it should be! Still no answer to my question! /:-)
What's amazing to me is when I was born in 1958 this show had already ended and George Reeves would be dead a few months later but this continued on into the 60's as strong as ever. From the mid 60s to early 70's it definitely was one of my favorite shows and everyone else I knew as well that were friends at the time. I'm glad none of us realized at the time that "superman" was really gone. he got to live on thru a whole new generation of fans anyway.
I used to watch this with my great great great grandchildren when it first was on TV.
@@fjccommish lol nice. which made them born about when....1750 ?
@@RJ4O4 No, they were born between 1950 and 1952. I was born well before 1750.
It didn't exactly continue into the '60s; but around 1961, the show went into rerun syndication in the kid's show market around the country, and lasted a while. The syndication seemed to happen about the time that the Superboy and Superpup projects tanked; I have long suspected that the syndication deal was the studio's fallback alternative.
We had the first t.v. on our block in upstate New York. All the kids would come to my house and watch Howdy Doody and Superman. A fun and great time in America.
Ward shoulda put that award on the mantlepiece so Beav could show Larry.
Or Eddie Haskel.

Superman's greatest superpower is that no one recognizes him with a disguise of glasses.
Didn't work for me.
It’s not that he’s wearing glasses, it’s that he’s wearing THOSE glasses. The lenses are made from a Kryptonian glass that hypnotizes the person looking at him into believing that he’s smaller and weaker.
That's because their stupid anyone with common sense by looking at Clark Kent and superman real good that their the same person
Can tell their the same person
Noel Neill (Lois Lane) was cute as button. I had a major crush on her in the early sixties watching Superman reruns. She was probably the only starlet of her time that talked in a General Standard American accent. All others talked in a funny "Mid Atlantic" half British and half American accents. Used to drive me nuts not knowing where the actors were really from.
It was Lynda Carter for me.
The perfect TV father.Unconvincing as a bad guy.
Beaumont was once a Methodist minister!
It's that touch of sadness that works in both roles. Thinking of what could've been.
Ward Cleaver seemed to have straightened out his life and had a nice family.
Now I know why Ward Cleaver had compassion for Eddie Haskell.
Why; exactly? Was he into boys?
Eddie became an LAPD cop who served with honors. He was wounded by gunfire in the line of duty.
@@liquidpowder839 Compassion has nothing to do with sexuality. You seem to be confused. 😕
😆🤣😂😹
I love this superman series, never missed it!
Superman triumphs again. Ward rescued by the Man of Steel.
Hugh Beaumont was a good actor, George Reeves was the best (especially as Clark Kent), and Lois Lane (Noel Neil) was super HOT!
I liked Philis Coates.
Beaumont had already developed his trademark inner sadness.
I always thought that sadness was a result of having to deal with Eddie Haskell … not to mention Lumpy.
That would sure make me sad!
My one n only original Superman!!! RIP George Reeves!!!
Ward giving Superman the business.
......said wally
I'm 62 yo and I've loved the Superman character for as long as I can remember. My younger brother has collected comics all his life so he knows a thing or two about superheros. His opinion of where Superman ranks amongst all others is mediocre at best. I beg to differ. Superman (especially George Reeves) is the most beloved of all.....just my opinion
I'm 62 and agree with you. Superman George Reeves was the best! It's weird seeing Ward Cleaver play a gangster tho 😱😂
I agree!
I'm 64 and I agree.😊👍
I’m 69 snd I outrank all of you - but I agree.
One of my favorite episodes.
I always knew Ward lead a double life.
He had a short but successful musical run in The Hugh Beaumont Experience.
Does anybody remember Superman rescuing Lucy Ricardo on I LOVE LUCY?
Did June know what Ward was mixed up in?
I knew there was something suspicious about Ward Cleaver.
He settled down after the Beav was born.
He was hard on the beaver.
Superman knows all the stars
Ward calls in Superman to handle that troubled. Eddie haskell
Gee Beaver, dad's on TV!
Golly Wally !
Is that really true, or are you just giving him the business?
Eddie Haskell should have made a cameo appearance in the episode and given a single line. "Oh hello Mr. Cleaver. I feel it is my civic duty to tell you Mr. Cleaver that your friend Clark Kent from the Daily Planet is really the Kyptonian they call Superman! Well have a good evening Mr. Cleaver!"
If Wally and the Beaver knew that Ward was an ex-con, they will brag about it to their friends saying 'my dad can beat your dad up'. 😂😂😂😂
XD
I remember seeing this when I was a teen and knew that Mr. Beaumont played Ward Cleaver later.
I have seen Him in Some Movies too!
Yes! "The Mole People"(not to be confused with "Superman and the Mole Men"(lol)).
So what, dumbass?
Just watched this yesterday on Heroes and Icons.
‘You take care of the copper!’
Ah----SUPERMAN! My childhood hero!! Thanks for the video! AWESOME!
Didn't knew Ward knew Superman. No wonder he was always a man of integrity. Everyone has a dark side & I wander if his family knew of his past. After that talk with Superman Ward turned out to be a good man.
When he gets the citizen's award the says exactly the same thing he says when Beav and Wally give him a hunting jacket in the LITB episode "Bank Account".
"I just don't know what to say"
Good thing Superman saved him, now he can make it home in time for June's pot roast.
Who knew Mr. Cleaver had a rap sheet?
Golly Wally !
"Golly, Wally, how are we gonna explain this to Eddie or Lumpy?"
Thanks for this! I did not know!!
OMG, I remember this episode. I never once put this character together with Ward Cleaver. I loved Superman as a kid but by the time Leave it to Beaver came along I was getting a little too old for that show.
➡ Baylor School salutes alumnus Hugh Beaumont. ☑
Ward Cleaver (Hugh Beaumont) in Superman Margaret Mondello (Madge Blake) in Batman
I used to hide a "cape" behind the sofa that I would wear to become Superman.
Hugh Beaumont also was in a number of film noirs before he became ward cleaver.
Yes indeed, I've got scenes from most all of Beaumont's film noir here on my channel
Thats the beavers old man lol
I was 67years old when diss can out in 1953 it still good now in 2019
We agree, Leave it to Beaver still just as great to watch now as when it originally aired from 1957-63.
Yo U seré 67 yo ? S0 YOU over135 now?
So handsome 😍
OK this is super cool Mr. Ward Cleaver meats Superman super cool
How? Just how was it cool?
Beaver: Gee Dad you actually met Superman?
Ward: Yes , Beaver , Superman actually rescued me before I met your mother
Wally: Golly Dad , wait till I tell Eddie and Lumpy about this.
Beaver: This is better than when we talked to Don Drysdale!!
Tragically Tim ran away from home, became a hobo and was never seen again. Dan left Metropolis and had a new identity manufactured for himself to get a fresh start. He became Ward Cleaver and married June a year later. The rest is history...
Look Beaver, I brought you a sailboat!
Let this be a lesson to the Beaver!!!
The Beave always had to learn the hard way, just like most of us. /:-)
@@johnamaral1786 "Weren't you a little hard on the beaver last night?"

Happy Birthday Superman
Hugh Beaumont was a Church Minister. It's very telling that he felt comfortable playing lost/unsavory characters. He understood their nature & sympathized, as a Man of the Christian Church...."confess & be forgiven."
and as an actor he also felt comfortable playing many villains and ruthless characters that I have clips of here as well
Hey Beav, , show superman that baseball signed by Baby Ruth
And of course, while Superman scanned the environment with his x-ray vision, he'd never notice a room-size chunk of lead with no reason for being there! 🙂
Before this and before the Beaver Hugh played Michael Shayne Private detective in five movies.
I looked on RUclips at the movie and tv series, Hugh Beaumont wasn’t in them.
Yes indeed Hugh Beaumont was Michael Shayne -- I have posted hilites right here in my RUclips Channel, and later Sue Randall, who played Miss Landers, was also in Michael Shayne... ruclips.net/video/NwE2uEWB6Lg/видео.html
@@shettrick And he was in a movie where he played the nice guy who was divorcing his wife to marry another woman, and in the end he tried to kill her. I don't remember the title but it was a good movie for Beaumont.
@@chadkincham You're not looking at right videos -- there were many versions of Michael Shayne, including one I posted and provided link to in previous comment below - here it is again since you obviously missed it... ruclips.net/video/NwE2uEWB6Lg/видео.html
@@shettrick He might have been in an episode, but didn’t play the part of Michael Shayne - the clip you sent shows Robert Denning is Michael Shayne at the end of it at 1:42.
So Superman saved Ward Cleaver. Two years later,Superman dealt with Lucas McCain.
Conners was superman sylvester j superman in that episode
Now you know what Ward Cleaver did for work I always thought he was a heroin Dealer
His name was Dan Grayson. His son's name was Tim. In this universe maybe the boy Tim is Dick's (Robin's) cousin - if you use your imagination.
He wasn't Ward Clever then. Just a part he's playing.
The Beave was just a baby then.
It weird seeing Ward Cleaver play a gangster.😱 Doesn't seem normal🤔
Did Luke not know lining the cave with lead was a health risk? 😏
No them days they were in the dark
Luke should have also lined the cave with asbestos, to make it more soundproof.
😊😊
What would June Cleaver say to his choice of friends!
Like father, like sons.
Did he say, 'I'll be right home, June ?
George Reeves was never nerdy playing Clark Kent like Christopher Reeves
Christopher Reeve.
Eugene also narrated a series of railroad documentary dvds (probably VHS rerecorded).
Who's Eugene?
@@shettrick taa daa - Eugene Hugh Beaumont (February 16, 1909 - May 14, 1982) was an American actor, television director, and writer. He was also licensed to preach by the Methodist church.
That's who. LOL
@@frederickwise5238 Ah, OK, of course I knew all of this except never heard anyone call him only Eugene. the audio is a bit hard to understand in places
When Clark and Superman helped Ward Cleaver, did June Wally and the Beaver at least thank him? Where was Eddie Haskel and Lumpy?😂😂😂😂😂😂
Go ward
How do you line a CAVE in lead?!???
How do you line a cave with cave walls with lead?
With lead??? First, the bad guy had to "remove" the copper !
Why you callin me Beave?
The other man in the first scene that said "take care of the copper" was the father, Red, on "That 70's Show" wasn't he? Maybe not, he would be quite old. Did look like him.
Now Beaver how many times ?
John Kellogg from 12 o'clock high movie. Major Joe Cobb.
The second nickel never dropped.
Good catch!!
Superman (the George Reeve version) is an element of my childhood that I wish I could get rid of.
"Reeves" is the proper spelling.
Was George reeves the only one that played Superman that wore a girdle 😅
Where does he get his clothes from if he going to be some where else and talk like mr Kent
He’s Superman.

Now we Know What Beavers and Wally's Dad did for a Living . LoL "Ward..Speak To The Beaver" BEAVER!".. Yup.never talked what happened at the office... Or what was the Office .Was..
What happened to Tim?
Tim ran away from home, never to return, as he was ashamed of his dad thinking he was a criminal. Tim's mother was so upset about this, that she divorced her husband.
After the divorce, Dan changed his name to Ward Cleaver and he married June. They then started a family, and had two sons named Wally and Beaver.
The real Superman Not From Earth.
I always thought Hugh Beaumont was a real good looking man. I was sorry to hear of the tragedys in his life. And George Reeves who played Superman, i never have believed he committed sucide.
Did he steal the toy boat!. And still earn citizen of the year? Metropolis must be New York or San Francisco
Skyline of Metropolis was initially modeled on Toronto but Metropolis of Superman has almost always represented New York, and Gotham in Batman was always New York -- Gotham is nickname of New York City
SO THAT'S WHAT HUGH BLOWMONT DID BEFORE HE TRIED TO TEACH THE BEAVER HIS LESSON?
Grow up. What are you, 12?
Very sad George Reeves died from the Mafia he must have had a bad gambling problem rest in peace
That’s was pretty corny
