  • Jagaux is a solderless bluetooth mod which allows you to have native bluetooth functionality in your old Jaguar. You can listen to music, podcasts, sat-nav etc. through your sound system and control it all using the steering wheel controls. There is also a microphone included for phone calls which can be answered on the steering wheel if you so wish. Sound quality is VASTLY superior to a bluetooth radio transmitter.
    I have made a beginners guide to installing the 2023 Jagaux bluetooth adaptor in my Jaguar XJ (x350) from 2003. This guide is for the PREMIUM Alpine stereo bluetooth kit but you can buy a kit for standard audio systems as well. The kit also works with X-Type, S-type but the radio removal will be different of course. Skip to the 16 minute mark if you want to get to the radio mod part.
    The guide is very much a beginners bolt-by-bolt guide to removing the centre console, the radio and CD player and splicing in the Jagaux Bluetooth. As it is intended as a beginners guide, please understand that it is a long video but do feel free to skip to an appropriate time using the time codes below.
    I did not make and nor do I supply or fit these bluetooth modifications but I hope this helps some of you out there. I take no responsibility for any damage caused while installing one of these yourselves.
    Thanks! Enjoy.

    Very Good and very well explained, I have the SE and a plug in Bluetooth that actually works very well and the sound is good, I got some clear clips that hold the cable and you don’t see it, but I have mini disk unit and thought of changing that so knowing how the other things detach is very helpful, I thought it was an excellent the video and especially using the ratchet with screw driver bit! So thank you I’m subscribing and will see if there’s anything else. Two tips, if your not sure if battery is knackered
    Put a multi meter on it it should read over 12 and the boot floor that lifts up, clips over the rubber seal that goes around the boot, so it holds it out of the way!

      Oh nice. Thanks for the tips. The minidisc! Is yours a Japanese import? They’re pretty rare. I was one of the few people years ago that liked minidiscs.
      This green car (sadly) was written off on the motorway by a careless driver (not me!) but I now have a new x350 which is a Japanese import. I have to say, mechanically it is MUCH better than the one in this video.
      As for future videos, shortly I’ll be installing an upgrade to the screen. Keep an eye out for that one. It keeps the original styling of the interface but adds modern functions like maps, DAB, phone calls, Apple CarPlay etc.

      Ah thanks for the compliment! Thanks for the sub! Not sure how many videos I’ll be uploading but when I do small jobs, I’ll be sure to do a video.
      I love the colour. Hard to describe but in the sun, it has an amazing metallic finish - slight hints of orange in the deep green. Hard to describe or photograph but looks amazing in real life. Green or black are the ones to go for I think.
      I’ve had it for about a year now. It had quite a few issues that needed fixing, especially at the start but its running well now. It is a quite exceptional car and every time I drive it, the word “luxury” is in the forefront of my mind.
      It is a complicated car though so do keep some spare cash to one side if you do buy one. It does amaze me how many things need to be removed to access what you would think should be an easy thing like the radio. I had a similar reality check with the windscreen washer bottle and installing a reverse camera (which is a MUST I’d say).

      Dashcam is “WOLFBOX Mirror Dash Cam Front Rear Camera 12". Its quite life changing when it comes to reversing the XJ and gives a fantastic wide angle lens view out the back when you’re driving. Like everything in the XJ, its a bit of a faff to route the wire to the camera (which I’ve mounted above the number plate). I had to take out the rear seat back and route the cable through to the boot lid, drill an exit behind the number plate. Took a good 3 hours (but I am slow)

      Yeah I think this is more in line with the Jagdroid BT that he sells for the CD player. My only issue with the Jagdroid option is that you have to send it off and wait for its return so its sort of the same amount of work with dismantling the console and CD player and then takes a while for it to come back.
      Anyway, its been a great addition. No drop outs or anything. I like it so much that I’ve just done the process in reverse to remove Jagaux. My car was crashed in to on the motorway and its been written off so I intend to buy another XJ and re-install it. Hopefully soon…

    I have a 2002 XK8 with the same radio setup. I find that the cigarette lighter bluetooth FM transmitter plugin works very well without all the complicated disassembly required. I saw that you had one ss well. I don’t see why I should go to the trouble of all that work with all of the possible problems that my ham- hands could cause?

    • @JaguarLDN
      @JaguarLDN  Год назад

      Firstly, I’m VERY envious. I really want an XK8 and keep trying to find an excuse to get one. You’re a lucky fellow.
      Second, regarding the bluetooth transmitter, it depends how sensitive you are to these things and also how built up the area you are in (as things like pirate radio tends to interfere as well as other cars with these transmitters). I’m somewhat of an audiophile although not a super expert but I can tell the difference like night and day personally. Much more presence in the music and also steering wheel controls are great to have.
      I also found the transmitter degraded my normal radio listening somewhat. The radio sounded better when unplugged the transmitter.
      Like I say though, depends how sensitive you are to audio things. If your transmitter works well for you, you’re all good! Agreed… its a bit of a job! Many things on these cars are. Hah.

    • @JaguarLDN
      @JaguarLDN  8 месяцев назад

      If sound quality isn’t a priority for you in a car, then yes I agree, it’s super easy to use an FM transmitter of course - by a million miles in fact. I had one before installing a bluetooth Jagaux. It was… ok. Felt like all my music was, well… radio quality only. i.e not great.
      That said, for you, an FM transmitter might be all you need. If you are even slightly interested in decent quality audio with no interference though, then this modification is a good bet. So that’s what this guide is for.

    • @JaguarLDN
      @JaguarLDN  10 месяцев назад

      I’ve looked in to this before and it is far from straight forward sadly. Have a search around the jaguar forums for “retro fit heated seats x350”.
      Basically the seats don’t have heated elements in so you need to replace the seats with ones that have the heated element, wire it all in, change your head unit to include buttons and have the car programmed professionally to recognise the seats… so not really feasible. You can also do aftermarket heated seats but again, its not an easy job to take out the seats, remove the covers, wire your own heating etc.
      Upsettingly, the green XJ in the video is no more. Somebody crashed in to it on the motorway a couple of weeks ago. I’m getting a new black one though and have maxed out on the extras this time - heated seats, 4.2L V8. Can’t wait to get it.

      @tik-tok 10 месяцев назад

      I also ordered 2004 Black XJ8 from US auction and then just to find out that it does not have heated seats, its not like I care about that too much but a bit upsetting and surprising that it does not have the feature that basically all of 80% XJs have from that era. I also can't see that small dots on the bumper which are parking sensors, but when you check Vin Code it says it has parking sensors, we shall see.@@JaguarLDN

      Well, I have my new XJ and can confirm that the front and rear heated seats are (I’m sorry to say), really great to have now it’s getting a bit colder here in London.
      Maybe your car had the front bumper replaced at some point? Hence no visible front sensors. You may be able to ask a specialist to check for you as it might be a matter of swapping out for a bumper with sensors fitted and you’re good. Be warned though, the sensors are temperamental. My new XJ has them front and rear but I can imagine the’ll go out at some point. You can tell they’ve gone out by a loud 3 second beep when you put the car in reverse.
      Look on the plus side: the front bumper looks better with no sensors cluttering it up at least!

    • @tik-tok
      @tik-tok 9 месяцев назад

      yes it does have front and rear sensors, it just was not too visible from the pictures. and yes again, I hear beep when I put in reverse and P button at the top of the car (Near sunroof) has red LED light on. • @JaguarLDN

      If one sensor goes out, all of them act as faulty. Annoying. You can just replace the dead ones. Best way to check is to put it in reverse (obviously not with the engine on) and touch each of the sensors with your finger. You will feel a VERY faint tapping from the working ones and the dead ones will have no vibration at all.

      You just need to make sure you buy the bluetooth kit to match your audio system. If the lower door speakers have an “alpine” badge and there is a subwoofer on the parcel shelf, buy the premium bluetooth kit. If there are no badges or subwoofers, get the standard bluetooth kit.
      You are applying the mod to the CD player only so it doesn’t make a difference if you have the screen or not.
      Hope this helps you!

      Any idea if the premium kit will work with a non alpine car? The standard is currently out of stock@@JaguarLDN

      @@KaiRuffin2121 Unfortunately it won’t work. You have to buy the correct kit for your car stereo. I now have a different XJ and had to buy another kit for the standard audio system.
      He does restock fairly regularly though so keep an eye on his website!
