    I skated from 1990-2000. Skateboarding does something to you that you can never truly walk away from. I still support skating after all these years. Some of the best days of my life involved a skateboard. My friends dad showed us carpentry when we were building his mini ramp and now I flip and rent houses for a living. Everyone has a story to share but skating has brought us all together.

      Same as me, I will always support Skateboarding/Skateboarders anyway I can. It gives you so much and it's important to keep it going for the next generation. I can't skate much now because I'm old and back problems from regular work but I will always wear skateboarding clothes, shoes and will always have a skateboard setup ready to roll.

    I'm 43 almost 44. I had stopped skating a few times in my life due to bad negative choices I had made in life at that time. Even during those times I still looked at the world through the lens of a skater looking at spots and watch other friends shred.
    But long story short I've spent about 25 years of my life on a board and YOU CAN NEVER TAKE THE SKATER OUT OF A SKATER EVEN WHEN THEY STOP SKATING

  • @mildogslad
    @mildogslad 2 года назад +6

    I understand the guys all being pro skateboarding "It'll never leave me" "skateboarder 100%" "I'd never turn my back on skateboarding" but its just like any other career, chapters close in life and there should be no guilt in wanting to step into new areas.
    I felt during that segment that Chris has some genuine feelings of wanting to express his desire to walk away from skateboarding at times, not due to injuries or falling out of love, but more around a logical approach of potentially not seeing a future in the types of roles available to him, just a general discouragement about his future in skateboarding. Which is totally understandable as you get older.
    I can imagine financial pressure really starts becoming a problem to older skateboarders that have nothing else behind them to figure out what to do next.

    I’ve skated now 36 years, wow. I feel the progression and mindset of a skater transfers to every area of my life. The process of perseverance has given me confidence in other parts, my art, my business, I know I’ll fall a thousand times, but I get back up and that’s what gives me my unique style and empathy. Now I get to support my son who loves skating and get to ride with him in all these sick parks everywhere. What an incredible journey and community. It’s not everything, you need spiritually too, but it’s a huge piece of my operating system!

    i felt like eldy, i had my first concussion and it was a big one. Then 2 years later right when i got my groove back i broke my knee. i was at the best i ever was skate wise and then had a total reset after both injuries. those back to back injuries drained my bank account especially the concussion with all the head scans. I was so upset at my skateboard and skateboarding that after 15 years of skating this was all happening. i was in my 30s and and my age caught up with me during recovery. I hated it. but of course the urge to hop back on and ride down the road ollie some curbs came back. i realized id never be at that level again but i can find other skate styles to fill the gaps and bring the joy back. From big airs to long mannys. what ever makes it fun!

    I'm 54 and been skating since I was 10. Still skating and coming back from a gnarly knee injury. I've never been in the skateboard industry other than some small time fun tshirts my crew put out locally. Otherwise I've worked in aerospace and have to say that being a forever skateboarder has brought a certain creativity to look at things in a totally different way. Kids ask me if I'm sponsored and I usually tell them I sponsor myself.

    I skated in the 80's and it was a different time then. Cops would chase you down at skate spots, no skate parks really other than some bowls in Del Mar but for street skaters there wasn't much. So it was easier to walk away from vs now. I will say once a skater always a skater. Even to this day i still see a sweet spot and think if i had a board i would totally skate that😁 My mind says yes my body now says you crazy haha😂

    Interesting topic, it's so different how everyone treats this thing. I had what some called a "career" in skateboarding but I just suddenly fell out of love with it. I've been skating since about 1999/2000 and haven't skated in well over a year now, I just don't feel it anymore. I'm still watching skate clips all the time as well as this show but I have no desire whatsoever to skate myself.

    Skating gave me an identity as a teen, without I would have been a fat video game nerd for sure and never gotten laid. Now I’m 30, been sober for 2 years and started skating shortly after I got sober and it literally saved my life. Sobriety can suck and be so painful but with skating it sparked that inner kid in me that fell in love with skating 20 years before. If I’m stressed or anxious, I get on a board or go film the homies and it’s the cure.

    This hit deep. I was pro for a while, and things were going great for about a decade, just grinding and making a living as a pro, but then one day I was board sliding down a kink rail for a transworld photoshoot and a bird swooped down and bit my dick and balls off. I'm talking clean off. It threw off my equilibrium and I started having tinitus in my ears, and my feet and hands were also shrinking. It hurt me deeply to walk away from the industry and my family that I had created over the years, but I just couldn't keep on going at that rate. No hard feelings, but I'm telling ya, it ain't for everybody.

    True essence of skateboarding helping that little kid out at the park that just got a new board or even got a shitty Walmart board and we let them know to buy a shop deck it’s expensive but if you really want to try to learn how to skate a quality board is worth the money. Then teaching them how to place their feet for a trick or skating and then having a awesome sesh with randoms and hyping each other up to land that trick you’ve been trying to land

    I think you should ask Josiah Gatlyn about that because he is the only skater that quit the industry legit not because of injury

    This segment could’ve been cooler if Kelly and jeron were more realistic. Most pros don’t get the opportunity to do a talk show after their careers that pays the bills. Chris gets it. If your whole life has been focused on one thing your entire life, and then you are physically unable to do it, that can fuck with a person.
