Shoutout escapist , the best skate shop and the shop that has been there the longest. So many good skaters came up from escapist helping them out, malto most famously. I buy all my skate needs from escapist
The best thing a local shop can do is have obstacles to skate and a good spot to chill. Have events and reasons to be there other than spend money. There used to be a shop in Tulsa ok called board shop and they had a mini ramp you could skate for a dollar and a spot to watch videos.
No Comply Austin has the best set-up. Shop on one block, city skate-park (House Park) on the opposite side of the block. Don't even have to cross a street, for the kids not allowed to cross the street. Dope for kids. Notable mention, Geometric Skate in Houston! Shop is right across from the city-owned skate park (North Houston Skate Park). The street between is active, but still a dope set-up.
+1 for No Comply ATX, their location with having the skate park just around the block is too perfect. Can't believe the city snuck a notice for a vote to force them to relocate within days of that city meeting last year. For now they can remain, but there's gotta be a way to make their spot permanent.
If skateshops sell stuff besides clothes and skate stuff, like sculptures or artwork or even books, I think that helps people support skateshops. It brings different kinds of customers in who might never buy skate stuff but rather something different. Maybe a skate shop can do night events, like open mics or something with a donation or something to get in. That helps people support it too.
Shout out to Beacon Hill Skate Shop, Boston. Been representing since 80' or before. They were corner stone in the late 80's thru out the 90's having demos and bringing pros like Mullen and Vallely........ Last I checked they were still there. They have always treated their customers the best. So super shout out to them. Check em out and give em props. That where Jamal William's (Molotov) came from I believe.
Asylum Skateshop in Oceanside, CA 🙏 I remember like 10 years ago when my dad was sick and mom wasn’t working. They delivered me a board cause our car was broken down. I think the dudes name at the time was Pablo Now that I’m older and working ,, I go there all the time to buy hats (I unfortunately don’t skate anymore) but I still have that skater vibe.
Thanks for this! How long have they been in SA? Recently moved back to San Antonio from Austin, but I still find myself going to No Comply. Alta Vista and Fast Forward (when they were here) were my go to's in SA/
@@ChrisCataluna It’s been about a year. If you went to Goodtimes when it was open, I believe its the same owner. Great location and guys at the shop. It’s on broadway and 410 by the airport.
Shout out to United Boardshop in Lakewood, Ca. I use to skate for them in the late 90s early 2000s and I remember they hooked it up pretty good with the products. No charge, they also hooked up a couple of trips. Good times.
I do find it odd that skateboarders seem to be the only ones not "awarded" for pro models. There is no reason skate companies can't keep the 40-60$ price point on artless team decks and charge 80+ for pro models. It would give more options to consumers without a compromise in quality while promoting competitive growth from within the industry. Guitar pro models are typically 3x more expensive than the base model and do sell well. I dont even have to get into the sneaker head industry lol. I never want to advocate for something that makes the consumer pay more, but what's fair is fair. Of course this is just my opinion. Cheers!
Shout-out Orchard skate shop, Boston!! Take the green line to North station or Orange line to Haymarket!! You'll find it on North street. Also, just don't buy online man and put stickers everywhere
sadly when i was growing up my town only had a little skateshop for like a year and there wasnt many skaters and no skatepark at the time so it didnt last long then the next closest thing was a zumies so before ordering online was big that was our best option sadly but man i miss skating them ATM board lol.
SHUT UP AND SKATE ! VAL SURF ! RIP CITY ! RAT CITY, BROOKLYN HOUSE ! THE SPOT FOR SKATES ! L.A. SKATES ! AND LAST BUT NOT IN THE VERY LEAST RENE’S ALL EARS RECORDS.
80-110 dollars is the price of most boards of renowned brands here in Europe. You can get boards for around 45 dollars though if you’re buying blanks of so and so quality.
My local skate shop doesn’t sponsor or do events or nothing to keep pushing skating or motivate younger skaters I am one who has been through the time of skating the nearest park but there needs to be a skate park I mean you would think shops selling skate products would want to try back up skating to the community that keeps the shop going.
When I was buying $30 completes from Jeron's teammates at lockwood they weren't saying to go to the skateshop. Why is it more important now than back then?
Back then there wasn't an alternative to buying from shops now in-person retail is dying so much, now days many skate shops barely make a profit and are really so important to the great community they often are the first steppingstone to becoming pro
Boards should be more? Is kelly crazy and they haven't stayed the same price for years boards were literally cheaper 10 to 5 years ago if not 3 and are you forgetting about people in other countries where spending a 100 on one board is just seen as normal now with average compelet costing upwards to 170 or 200 i don't see how these companies arent making enough money just more greed as usual
Be mindful of their business too, ya know? I do skate shop decks. They're alright. Wood is good. I figure the shop has better margins on shop boards and DEF for soft goods. Why not rock a local shop tee or hat or whatever.
Gotta say skate shops is where I saw all the best pros at these demos small skate shops and I seen the A-Team at their height pretty sure I saw shorties they did a vans demo they had 1 million different guys on it so many great memories

When I was buying $30 completes from Jeron's teammates at lockwood they weren't saying to go to the skateshop. Why is it more important now than back then?
It’s tough for small skate shops paying high rents and employees to compete with internet websites
Back then there wasn't an alternative to buying from shops now in-person retail is dying so much, now days many skate shops barely make a profit and are really so important to the great community they often are the first steppingstone to becoming pro
