  • Today we are coming to you with the new video comparison of two self-standing 2 person tents from different price categories. One tent would be really cheap - Quechua MH100 this one. And one on a more expensive side - MSR Elixir 2. They have similar weight and dimensions and we wanted to explore what would be the major differences. So the MSR tent we bought just recently as an upgrade for our backpacking trips. And this Quechua tent we’ve had almost for two years now and it was used mostly by our family members when they were coming to visit us and we stayed in the campgrounds. So we hope you’ll enjoy this fun little comparison as we had fun filming it. Let’s begin!

    As a budget backpacker, I love the quechua soooo much. One of the biggest advantages is that you don't actually need any stakes at all. Just set it up and get in: your weight will keep it from flying off (most of the time :) ). I leave the stakes at home to save weight. Also, you can set up the tent with no stakes and then pick the entire thing up to place it exactly where you want.
    In the past I have owned tents with two entrances, but I found myself only using one of them anyways.
    I really hope they don't change the design too much. This tent is perfect in its simplicity.
    PS: Green is the best color for wildcamping ;)

    I own both the cheap Quechua tent and other more expensive tents, and it is really above its price category.
    I replaced its pegs with lighter, aluminium ones, bringing down its total weight closer to 2 Kg, which makes it excellent for solo hiking/backpacking. When used solo, there is enough room inside for all your luggage, so the lack of a porch areas is no longer an issue.
    I recently bought the new version of this tent (the grey/blue one), but I haven't had the opportunity to test it. However, it is noticeably heavier (2.6 kg vs 2.2 kg with the green version).
    Also, the back side needs a loop in the middle for tightening the flysheet better - as it is now (without a loop), the flysheet is limp and touches the inner tent - not good when it rains.
    Otherwise, they are very good and underrated little tents - the materials they use now in these low price tents were actually premium materials 10-15 years ago.

      Thanks a lot for leaving your feedback. We do believe also that the Quechua tents are giving a lot of value for the money and quality wise they are above its price category as you said. We were always very interested in trying out the new version of the tent, now we will have better idea about it. Hope they will continue coming up with new upgraded versions of the tents.

    Thanks for a great review guys. very enjoyable to watch. :) It's weird, I have no interest in buying a new 2p-tent yet it is nice to hear your thoughts (since you are seasoned trekkers). :) I own the Roben's Boulder 2, which I bought during a sale. It's spacious like the MSR with double entrances, and vestabules, but it doesn't have the MSR footprint. It makes the assembly a bit easier (more similar to the quenchua). I must say though, the tent bag provided by Roben's was huge... I have never used it. I could fit both tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag into it. But it becomes way too tall for my 33l bag. xD

      Thank you, friend:) Yeah, we are also always interested in seeing such type of videos even if we don't need to search for a new equipment. You tent sounds similar indeed with MSR, it has a huge bag with it too:)

    I spent six months cycle touring around Europe in 2019. After my original tent broke in the first month I bought this exact Quechua tent from a Decathlon store in Spain for €20 until I could find a better tent to replace it. I subsequently used the tent almost every night for five months and it was fantastic. There was no need to replace it with a more expensive tent. It survived strong winds and heavy rain on a number of occasions. I also liked the tent because it was free-standing, allowing me to pitch it without pegs when the ground was too rocky, like in Croatia. It looks like Decathlon no longer do it in green, which is a shame as it became almost invisible when stealth camping at night. A great little tent!

      Thank you for sharing your experience with this tent, it is very much appreciated. As we haven't tested this tent in hiking conditions for a long time, mostly in the campgrounds stays. Nice to know that it seems to be even more robust than we thought.

    You are suuuuch an adorable sweet couple, and you really know instinctively how to make some good engaging videos!!
    Only comment I'd like to make is, that maybe if you can, remove your sunglasses while you are filming? I've seen it on quite a few of your videos.
    Coz it's a bit odd.
    It would be lovely seeing your faces you know? 😊😊🙏🏻👌🏻⛺⛺🍃🌿🌱🏞️⛰️🍂🍁🌾🌾⛺⛺🌱🍃🌿

    From Decathlon..te quickhiker 2...low price for a tent with two entrances, aluminium poles, and a semi- lightweight..outer and inner tent connected. Poles in from one side, and up! Have this tent for a year..no problems.

    I own the decathlon quechua mh100 in grey. It's the cheapest tent in the decathlon range yet it is probably the most practical and useful of all their tents. The value at only £29.99 here in the UK speaks for itself. The tent folds up small and compact and weighs very little making it the perfect tent to take with you everywhere. The roll up carry bag makes putting it away a breeze as other tents have been very difficult to fold back up once opened in my experience.

      Thanks for sharing your experience with this tent. We overall think that Decathlon makes a good jobs with their products and gear and for a budget price it is hard to beat it. But you now summarize the things why this particular model of the tent is so popular among people. As the majority of backpackers/cyclists/motorcyclists we have seen throughout years of staying in the campgrounds choose this tent. We have been wanting to try out a new model and see how it differs with the older one, may get to it soon.

    Hey guys. Thanks for another wonderful video. I think I've already mentioned it but my fiancé and I have the MSR Elixir 3. We mainly use it for biketouring, however we took it with us for the GR52. Of course, we would have preferred to have a lighter tent. That said, it really held up during a severe rain/hail storm. I also have the Elixir 1. It held up well in a storm as well!

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 года назад

      Thank you for your kind comment:) We think this MSR pretty much can't be beaten for the comfort it gives. Sure we would prefer it to be lighter too. Good to know that it held up in a strong winds as we haven't had such conditions to test it yet.

    Nice comparasion. In the end is about value for money. Is the MSR the better tent? Absolutely. Is it 10x than the Quechua? Not in a million years. For 99% of holiday campers around the world that only use their tents a handful times a year, the Quechua is a no-brainer.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 года назад

      Thank you for commenting. Sure it is, and we've always thought that Quechua produce the good quality tents for the price. And of course it is all about different use that people want out of the tent, for holiday campers and short time use they are excellent.

      Bonjour, nous ne pensons pas que vous puissiez trouver les arceaux compatibles pour cette tente au moins sur le site Decathlon. Faites-nous savoir si vous découvrez autre chose. Ces arceaux sont déjà très légers, le tissu de la tente est lourd, c'est ce qui la fait peser plus.

    Hi I'm from South Africa but am planning to hike the Via Francigena in June next year. I do not know the climate in France/Switzerland. Is the QUECHUA suitable for this 3 month hiking trip?

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 года назад

      Hello, that's a nice plan! We personally would take more robust tent for long term use like Quechua Quickhiker for example we did a review on here: ruclips.net/video/-PGOyVdEhpk/видео.html As we think this basic Quechua tent MH100 is fine for short time use and nice weather (also staying in campsites, not pitching it and wrapping for many times)and not so much for the mountains and strong winds that can occur on Via Francigena on Switzerland part. So if you plan on using it only couple of times on the trail this MH100 will be fine but if you want to stay in tent all the time we suggest you to look at Quechua Quickhiker instead.

    • @JohnVianneyPatron
      @JohnVianneyPatron 3 года назад

      @@WalkingNatureWorld I looked at that option but it is more than 1kg heavier. That's a weight of approximately 10 kg more (accounting for gravity) that I will have to carry. 😒

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 года назад

      @@JohnVianneyPatron We are not sure what you refer to exactly but the weight of this MH100 tent is 2.4kg and the Quickhiker tent is 1.9kg. You can check it on the Decathlon website

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 года назад +2

      Такими были выводы в конце видео:
      Это две совершенно разные, но в то же время в чем-то похожие палатки. В целом, мы думаем, что MSR имеет явно более прочные материалы и намного надежнее по качеству. Quechua может быть отличной палаткой для краткосрочного использования во время коротких пеших или велосипедных поездок несколько раз в год, особенно если вы не хотите вкладывать большие деньги. Если учесть цену, то все становится на свои места.
      Но вы также можете включать русские субтитры в течении видео:)
