    Saw them earlier that summer and can still remember when this song was played, since it was such a chill encore. My first Dead show and I lost my buddy, but then realized it didn’t matter because everyone was my friend !

    More folk/jazz with a country/rock influence. The grateful dead played something over 2300 shows. Maybe 2-300 different songs. Plus each setlist and improvisational section was different. Sometimes it was magical, sometimes a little flat. I'm so grateful to the band and the tapers who preserved so much of their music.

    I’m telling you, check out China Cat>I Know You Rider from the Europe ‘72 if you want to rock out. Uncle John’s Band was from the Workingman’s Dead LP, a more acoustic, harmony driven album influenced by their time hanging in Canyon with CSNY, Joni Mitchell & the gang. ✌️❤️🎶

    Grateful Dead combine every musical genre. Folk, country, rock, jazz, funk, blues, bluegrass, reggae, and even polka, just to name a few. We are barely scratching the surface. Live Truckin'

    Phil Lesh plays the bass like no one else, because he had never played the instrument before joining the band. He didn't listen to other bassists. He approached learning the instrument from a purely musical viewpoint.

    This performance is an outtake from the filming of "The Grateful Dead Movie", which was recorded over a five day stretch in October 1974, and released as the movie in 1977. These shows were with The Wall Of Sound PA System,, hence the dual microphones for sound cancelling. This song is not in the movie, probably because of the slightly muffled vocals. Generally, Jerry and Bob Weir are the two main vocalists, but Bassist Phil Lesh did some Lead Vocals, and over the years, Keyboardist Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Brent Mydland, Bruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick, and Donna Jean Godcheaux, wife of Keyboardist Keith Godcheaux, also sang.

    Welcome aboard! Dead Heads love sharing their music! There are too many cool things to list, but they were the original hippies that go back to the 60's (along with other bands). Cool things they never play the same show twice. A lot of times they don't play the songs the same way. They would let their audience tape the music (true artists) I know everyone knows this but what are ya gonna do... It's like the old saying " Ya hadda be there", thank G*d for those tapers!

    They each sing the songs they wrote. Robert Hunter wrote all the lyrics pre 1972ish, then John Perry Barlow started writing for Bob, and later Brent. This is a Hunter/Garcia song, which is why Jerry is singing lead. They also each do specific covers

    Jerry and Bob tend to alternate lead vocals depending on whose song it was. Their genre varies between rock, psychedelia, bluegrass, jazz etc.

    Bob Weir, the rhythm guitarist, also sang a lot of the lead vocals.
    In fact, he was the lead vocal on "Truckin'"
    Phil Lesh, the bassist, only sang on rare occasions .
    Next Dead song?
    How about..."Lost Sailor/Saint of Circumstance"

    Taylor Swift probably broke their career attendance record. They didn't pack them in like she does, but they basically lived on tour for like 3 decades. The single show record of Metallica in Russia, will NEVER be broken. It really can't be.

      @rickc661 2 месяца назад

      well, there's Woodstock. ( Joan Baez was the principle radio advertising feature where I lived, central NY ) and the Watkins glen show a couple years later broke that attendance , > Dead , Band , Allmans. and typical NY summer rainstorm.

    Classic. Cosmic Country Folk Blues Rock & Roll. Rock & Roll includes many styles. There was an April Fool's joke this year that Taylor Swift was going to record a cover of the entire Workingman's Dead album. This song is from that album. Otherwise, it wasn't clear from your remarks what tour record of theirs that she broke. I would find it kinda strange if her fans proverbially "dropped out" and took to following her tours caravan style. Who could afford tickets show after show.

    this is ( woo hoo ) my all time fave DVD / LP -- the 2 nd disc from the dvd set ' Grateful Dead Movie' - no interviews etc just songs. a collection from diff concerts , not straight thru. someone (not affiliated with band. ?? ) made a Utube video of one of the euro 72 concerts , Tivoli > about 90 min. including 3 Pigpen tunes. pretty good , surprising actually quality.

    NOT too smooth to be considered rock. In fact, The DEAD are THE GREAT AMERICAN rock-n-roll band. You’re scratching the surface and that’s fine, but you gotta do a full scale rabbit hole dive through the Grateful Dead catalogue beginning from the beginning in the mid ‘60’s to fully appreciate this band’s versatility and mastery of everything they ever played, but certainly rock-n-roll is one of those genre’s in their wheelhouse. Plenty of live recordings of Truckin’ too numerous to mention. Seek and you shall find!
