  • PS5 Controller, the DualSense R2 or L2 triggers are becoming loose overtime. This is because of an issue on the spring being used by the trigger buttons right above the Adaptive Trigger motor.
    This quick tutorial will show you how to replace broken spring on Dual Sense R2 button, fixing it's resistance and looseness issue.
    For the springs you can just search "R2 Trigger spring in Lazada or Shopee or any online stores and make sure to get the 'new version' or the springs for DS4 version 2 and up and not the old school one.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. My R2 button was busted and had no resistance. I found your guide, managed to get a pack of 10 springs on Amazon for 7 dollars CAD and I already have a precision screw driver set. I didn't have a pry tool so I just used a flat 2mm head like you did. Once I opened it up, I found the broken spring near the bottom of the controller. The only tricky part was getting the spring in. Had to use both my precision screwdriver to keep it in place with the 2mm head to move the spring arm into place. Got it after about the 5th try. I was about to buy another controller and your guide saved me. Overall this took about 15 minutes to do. Thank you so much!

      @Username I thought of calling Sony's customer support but I don't know what to say to them. Hello my controller's R2 busted out of nowhere what can we do about it? Idk seems kinda weird to me. I'll try to contact with the shop I bought my ps5 if my 4 years warranty includes controller fix or replace

    • @PantaxouParon
      @PantaxouParon 3 года назад

      @Username I forgot to mention that until now my DIY fix with the help of this video is doing a pretty solid work and I even replaced it with a stronger wire to be safe. I think it's even better than the original in terms of smooth button pushing and the adaptive triggers option

    • @PantaxouParon

      @Username well seems like we are (not in a bad way) stuck with our DIY options

  • @RishabhAneja
    @RishabhAneja 3 года назад +25

    This was very helpful! One suggestion I might add is that I found the resistance felt more similar to the original when I took both springs from the DualShock and put them on the R2 trigger. It's a bit tricky to hook them in without tweezers, but they seem to stay in place once they are there.

      I took apart a DS4 to grab the spring for this DS5 fix, and the DS4 has less parts to disassemble but is much more fiddly. Pretty sure I broke a plastic clip in the DS4 and I was trying to be careful. The DS3 was a dream to take apart. Didn't even need a video.

      Managed to do it. You have to have a pair of tweezers really. Get the spring loop on the centre piece and the bottom clamped in to the non-trigger part, and use your finger to jam them so they don't move, then get some tweezers to force the other part of the spring past the trigger and into the clamp. Gotta push your finger against the spring so hard it hurts a bit to stop it slipping, but it does work fairly easily this way.

    Perfect guide. Thanks dude. I thought my trigger spring had dislodged as I couldn't hear any parts rattling around, but alas, it was broken. Just popped open an old PS4 controller and swapped the spring over. Hardest part was aligning the two black prongs either side of the touch pad on reassembly as they're very easy to misalign. Just be careful with that part.
    Otherwise I'm happy to have fixed it. Sure, I could and should have sent it back to Sony, but lockdown is making that really hard to do. Plus I'm sure they'd just send me a brand new one anyway, so this feels a little less wasteful.

    First of all - if ANYONE has this, it’s too soon. It’s only April and the console only came out 5 months ago. I bought mine in February. It’s already broken. So 2 months of very light gaming. I have a kid and a full time job so I’m not gaming like a teenager for 6 hours a day- but even if I was (and I used to!) no console in my life has this ever happened even dating back to Nintendo systems and I used to throw those things.
    I expect free replacement very quickly with no postage costs given it’s a known fault or flaw of the controller.
    Ps great video man. It helped me take it apart east with no issue. Yeah my spring is just straight up missing and I can hear it rattle inside but I’m not touching it anymore it’s going back.
    PPS to take off the shoulder buttons very easy, just hold down the triggers and get in from back there.

      @@psxgaming5089 Exactly the same process however the part where you put the spring is on the inside of the trigger which makes it a little harder to get on

    Hi there, that's a super helpful video! I've already had the controller replaced once while I was playing Days Gone my r2 just stopped working. I got a replacement but even that controllers r2 died this week while playing horizon zero. Fml. It's been 2 controllers in 3 months. Wondering if this is covered by the Sony warranty still. Just a tad bit too anxious that I may mess something up while replacing the spring!

    Sir, you really helped me out. Have you ever thought about doubling the springs up, just to have a reserve spring already installed on standby or do you think it will make the trigger that much harder to press? You got a sub if you respond?

    • @GlennThoughts
      @GlennThoughts  2 года назад

      I thought about that but it wont fit on the plastic holder and it might actually just cause it to breal due to too much resistance. 1 spring is enough. Mine works wonder since then

    He man, just wanted to say thank you for the video. Was really easy to follow and understand, had this issue with both the controllers that came with my console, both R2 buttons went within a year of having the console. Just took apart an old broker PS4 controller and used both the springs in there to fix my ps5 pads, was super easy thanks to this video!

    I've got the same problem but thankfully here in Canada you get a one year warranty. After a year, this tutorial will be valuable though as I expect that this very cheaply made controller will break again since I've only had it three months.

    I just replaced my L2 spring. It's also pretty easy if you remove the battery and the PCB. Just be careful with the ribbon cables. There are many teardown videos that show how to safely take it apart.

    • @OwnedByZerox
      @OwnedByZerox 2 года назад

      @@rossgipps PCB stands for Printed Circuit Board. This is the green board in the controller, under the battery. All components of the controller are soldered on it or connected to it with cables.
