I wanted to give you a huge thank you for this video. I was watching several "how to open the Dualsense" and yours was the only one that was helpful enough for me to manage without damage. Thanks!! Could finally fix my broken R2's
I was going to post the same. I was able to clearly see exactly how the top arm slots into the trigger plastic in your video unlike any other video on youtube. I had some trouble and lost one of my 10 springs but ultimately was able to get the bottom arm to slot in place. Hopefully Sony makes these springs more durable in future revisions of the Dualsense.
Legend, cheers mate! Tip for everyone else - The spring in the PS4 controller for the R2 and L2 triggers are the exact same. So if you have a faulty PS4 controller like I did, disassemble that and use one of the springs inside.
this was the best tutorial so far for replacing the R2 spring the proper closeup gave me confidence on what I was doing with the spring and the technique worked well. (after about 6 attempts)
Thanks for the video :) I had two controllers, the R2 spring on both broke and the second one happened after not even 24 hours!! The hardest part was honestly getting that black faceplate back in. But I got it!
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad the vid was useful for you. The black faceplate was tricky especially at the forward points as you can see from the vid. Glad it’s all sorted now though!
Had to open mine because when the faulty controller was connected the console wasn't getting past certain games loading screen or I couldn't "press X to continue", I was SO WORRIED it was an issue with the ps5 lol, turns out the L2 button was being pressed on without me pressing it, which was interfering with that initial game loading screen, but after adjusting the spring a bit it worked like a charm and everything's fixed!
Thank you. Managed to fix my controller with this video. It was a bit fiddly to get the spring in, but I managed. No idea where the broken spring went though
Had this issue with with a new controller less than 2months old. Having replaced the broken springs back to working order. Saved me buying new new controller 😁
Thank you for your video. I got mine the first weeks of December, and noticed this problem around January. The DS5 is very nice and feels great in my hands, but the springs are a major problem since they break so often. Add to this that they made them considerably harder to repair than the DS4, where the screws were exposed. I'm kind of disappointed.
Thank You very much! My R2 was weeaak and I just fixed it eith this video!!! I'm gonna share it with some peple I know who are having this same problem!
Thank you so much! I just bought a new scuf controller and this happened to me today while playing destiny. I switch the spring from the controller that came with my PS5. Works like a charm again. Im gonna give u a like and well earned follow mate, thanks again!
Great video mate. This happened to one of my 3-month-old controllers. Spoke with Sony support today and sending it back for a replacement. This seems like a pretty common issue. I've got 4 generations of PlayStations still with working controllers. This is a bit of a joke how bad these are.
@@aziak1317 I called them. I googled the number here in Australia. Pretty long on-hold waits though. About 45 minutes. I'm still waiting for it to come back. 🤞
Thank you so much for this, I just repaired my R2 while watching along to this, you made everything very clear, thank you!!!! My only feedback was that when I levered my R1 off by the corner, it got wedged in deep on the other corner, and I sweated for a few mins trying to get it off, I'd recommend going for the middle of the LR1 buttons to pop them off.
Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! -- Followed you step by step and everything turned out great -- Also a very helpful tip from BallerMan - I couldn't have done it without you guys - Excellent easy to follow video!
Great guide. I have now repaired my controller and it works better than before. Following your guide while doing it was very easy. Thank you very much for the upload.
Thank you so much. My R2 just went a few days ago but thanks to your video it is now fixed. I tried with tweezers but honestly found it easier holding the spring down with my finger and using a screwdriver like you. Saved me a lot of hassle. Nice straightforward unbloated video, simple and clear.
The bigger piece of the spring (3/4)was stuck to the motor for vibration, obviously there is a magnetic element inside. My son didn't even realize it was broken. I was tearing down to do a POD replacement, damned stick drift. Fun stuff. Oh I didnt know the spring was broken so I pulled one off his old ps4 controller, but bent the ends of the spring differently so the triggers had no play. The springs are a tad different.
6:40 I tried to open this part REAL gently but still ended up breaking the clip. tried on all 3 controllers and broke all of them still don't know how to pull it off without doing any damage.
ok I've found a few ways to do this. Some inwards pressure on the joint between top and bottom seems to help. Or of you look down from the L1/R1 there are little ports, easing a flat blade driver in there separates the clips.
Thanks brother, this was very informative I just looked it up on ebay and they're very cheap, a pack of 10 springs is around 2 to 4 dollars Given how my controller took 4 months to break both springs, 2 dollars a year for just fixing a controller is a bargain
Dude, i don't have any repair skills, but this tutorial is fucking good! Today i could repair my R2 button and keep gaming on callisto protocol, thank you so much!
Wow, awesome. Now on to ebay to order some springs. Was going to send my pad back to Sony, but I'm thinking this will probably be happening again in the future, so I think all PS5 owners need to get used to taking there pad apart and replacing the spring.
@@TheCallinswood my pad died in under 5hrs of gameplay. Totally agree that it shouldn't happen and there are major flaws with the controller. I just received a pair of trigger springs for dualshock4 which are the same ones used in dualsense, to fix the same issue i've run into on the dualsense. Now comes the tricky part of placing the spring on the L2 trigger
You're awesome my guy, I've bought 2 (3 with the included) controllers so far, just had a second one break and was able to take the good spring from the 1st broken controller and use it in the 2nd broken controller 😁
I take apart my PS4 and PS5 controllers all the time, I actually think the PS5 controller is a nice controller to take apart, just be mostly careful with the ribbon cables. a lot of it is modular, so you won't break anything if your careful.
I used one of the coils from one of my old broken ps3 controllers. The metal in the ps3 controller feels different than the one in the dualsense and seems to not be able to break like the original dualsense coils. To get the coil out of the ps3 controller you have to bend the coil to be straight then bend it similar to how the dualsense is. It doesn't have to be perfectly bent just enough to allow it to stay in place and allow the trigger to work properly.
