Hey Gabriel, this brought back some great memories. I did the trek in early February 1989 and man was it cold. The night we stayed at ABC got down to -18 C and the lodge was a lot more primitive back then. There was only one large dorm with very thin mattresses on the floor. I don’t think anyone slept much that night. We were blessed with beautiful clear skies in the morning but with deep snow on the ground and more expected we decided to head back down for a warmer, less spartan bed for the night. I’ve also done the Langtang trek in 1985 as well as Sagramartha NP. I’d planned to do the Annapurna circuit on that trip but decided against it after hearing that the Torung La was too dangerous due to very deep snow and the risk of avalanche. If I had done the trek back then it would’ve taken about 3 weeks but these days I hear you can ride the bus or even fly all the way to Muktinath. They probably have comfy 5 star hotels there now. Oh well
Have watched all your clips of Peru, and also India. You are the best presenter on You Tube as I like how you walk and talk, you don't just put yourself on camera for the whole video and not show us anything. I also like that you take everything for what it is, whether it's a situation, a food, a custom, the locals, whatever, you never criticize or make fun of anywhere you are. In December I am in India for four weeks, hugely looking forward to taking on the adventure, as you do every time. Thank you.
Love mountains. Watched these then in 2016 and here I am watching them again 4 yrs later. Gabriel I love the music you picked for the last one with the morning sun peeking onto the ridge of the mountains. That choice of music made it even more epic, and a sense of what mountains bring to your soul, peace and tranquility. I could never make it to Nepal, however these videos inspired me to bring my husband last March to the Rocky Mountains in Banff Alberta, Canada and only 15 hrs from our tiny town in rural Manitoba. They may not be the tallest nor as spectacular as Annapurna but certainly amazing. Thanks for bringing your travels into our home...we love your videos and still catching up on the ones we have missed! Enjoy your break Gabriel!
Breath-taking scenery and you worked hard for it! Thanks for sharing it with us. Good luck with the circuit trek, I did it a few years back and really enjoyed the smaller villages and contact with local Nepalis.
Sweet. Just wait for the videos from the Annapurna Circuit (that's where I'm trekking right now), they're waaaaay more epic. :) Going to take a little while to finish those ones though.
I love your videos, your someone who has inspired me to become a world traveler. I'm currently traveling America, but in six to eight months I'll be ready fro Europe, Russia, Thailand, Japan, Africa, South America and hopefully will get a job working in Antarctica. God Bless you Mr. Traveler and as always Jesus Loves you!
wow it's amazing mountain thank you very much for sharing with us and youtube let the whole world see your incredible journey keep it up i would like to say thanks alot to visiting our small county
i used to watch videos like this and think now my wife and i have given up our jobs cleaned out our house given up THINGS that meant so much so we can travel. now i watch videos like this and the thoughts have changed now from its ok for them to we could do that
Thanks, yeah I had better content to work with on this one thanks to the stunning views and also was just inspired to try to capture the scenes as well as possible.
Amazing video. I've been following you a long time man and I am so glad your healthy and still going. Living in the present moment and loving life I hope.
Amazing Gabriel. A fantastic movie absolutely awesome views. As I said before I did the Annapurna circuit in 2009. Enjoy the views mate. The day over thorong la pass is extreme (at least it was for me) but one of the most amazing sights. Enjoy, keep the awesome footage coming.
I just hiked over Thorung La pass today. It was epic and brutal. Going to make a pretty awesome video whenever I get the chance to edit and upload, still trekking.
stunning views... .thanks for sharing. planning to do the Annapurna circuit in a week or so,,, it's been raining the last few days in Kathmandu..hope it stays dry.
+Gabriel Traveler awesome! one question... trying to pack light.. do you think sleeping bag is necessary? if so what temp sleeping bag would you recommend.. i have 5 degree down, but think it might be too warm. thanks.
Yes definitely bring a sleeping bag. The lodges usually provide one thick blanket. So between that and a bag you should be good, I've been toasty warm every night so far.
Absolutely stunning. I'm working my way through these posts now. This one made me tear up a bit. In part it's because of the beauty and in part because I feel a sense of loss as I don't think I'll ever get to do anything like this in my life. It makes me grieve/purge over it. And yeah, it really would take major miracles for the kind of shift to happen to make it possible. It feels a bit like that movie Sliding Doors -- one choice and you're on a completely different path.... Anyway. My motto is Only Forward. I'm super grateful you chose to share this with those of us who cannot.
Gabriel Traveler It should be! It's very, very well done. You should be really proud of the whole works: the journey, the filming, the editing. God, the sheer beauty. Just incredible. A little follow-up: My "inner advisor," let's say, got on me for being mopey about the possibility/probability of never going to the Himalayas after watching & commenting (and getting more emo about it all). The gist of the advice was that I live in Colorado for pete's sake and don't take advantage enough of the mountain beauty here. It's a bit like the idea of having gratitude for where I am already before more is extended. I felt a little put in my place about it. I thought to myself, "Challenge accepted." I am not set up for winter hiking/X-country, nor rich enough for skiing. But next summer? I'm going to be mindful of being checked by my better self and attempt to get up into the high country again. It's in my power to do so.
Karin Lynn Bates Sweet. Lots of great exploring, that's for sure. My dad lives near Longmont and we've been up into Rocky Mountain national park snowshoeing and stuff.
Gabriel Traveler Cool that your dad is here. Such a small world. Longmont & RMNP are not far from where I am. It's a great park -- my second marriage took place there, lol. The other two were in other countries, ha. Talk about adventures. 😜 Colorado has just so much in it, though, it's true. I gotta be mindful of just how lucky I am to be where I am.
Sweet, glad to hear it, that's kind of what I was going for. My videos of the trek I'm on now are going to be even more awesome, but it's going to be a while before I get them posted.
We hear the word epic thrown around much too easy, at least I do. This trek is what the term epic was meant for. When my funds open up a bit more I will be helping fund your adventures. I feel like I've been traveling with you for free and I'm mooching. Sorry for not chipping in. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Exactly man, I totally hear you on that. Just wait for the coming videos of the Annapurna Circuit trek (I'm in the middle of hiking it now but just finished the most epic (seriously) parts of it, hiking over a pass of 17,769 feet. Those videos are going to be even better, but it's going to take a while to get the editing done and then find somewhere with fast enough internet to upload.
Hey Gabriel, I've been following along with all your videos and have really been enjoying your latest Himalaya trip! I'm planning my own trip to Nepal within the next year and I had a question. I noticed in your latest videos, and have also read, about the lower elevation visibility (or lack thereof) towards the end of the dry season. Do you feel like that effected your trip versus trekking in Oct.-Nov. where the views are typically incredibly clear, but much more crowded?
It was a bit of a pain in the lower elevations, but you can't see the higher peaks much from there anyway. Basically you just have to make sure to get up early to see the mountains, and often you can see them during the day anyway. Especially on the Annapurna Circuit it wasn't much of an issue. I think any time of year there's going to be a certain element of chance as to whether you get to see the mountains, although the colder months are generally better for the views.
Hi Gabriel, great video once again. Quick question, have you ever had a situation where a lodge was fully booked? I'm planning a trip later this year but I'm wondering if there will be any issues during peak season. Thanks.
That's a good question. It hasn't been an issue for me so far, but I'm trekking in low season. Annapurna Base Camp especially can get booked up, so you can ask the lodge where you stay the night before to call and book something. I think you can do this at a lot of the lodges if you're concerned. That's the only solution I know of. Not sure what you do if things are booked up, but I think they might try to accommodate by giving people a floor to sleep on at least if possible.
Thanks, it's been a few days as I've been trekking again. I have four more videos all finished and ready to go, I just don't want to post them all at once. So it might be a few more days before I have internet again.
I'm not certain about that. I know K2 is one of the deadliest, about 1 out of 4 people who attempt to climb it die. If you search for "world's deadliest mountains" you should find a list, pretty fascinating.
Annapurna 1 or south is the most dangerous mountain in the world. It's even more dangerous than K2. Anyways, what makes K2 even more dangerous is it's location--Pakistan: terrorists and terrorism :)
Wonderful video Gabe :) you are giving me big inspiration for my future travels. I bought your Guide for Budget Travel last week, well I already know how to travel cheap but the most interesting for me is the chapter 2 with your favorite places. You and your videos have a big potential and I hope to see more :) Do you know about Patreon.com? This could be interesting for you! Namaste Lukas :)
Internet is super sporadic along the trekking routes, though mostly it's ridiculously slow. I uploaded these videos of the Annapurna base camp back in Pokhara, but waited to actually publish them (you can upload the videos without actually publishing them, and then you just need to do one click to publish it so people can see it). I've only been able to upload one full-length video while trekking (haven't published that one yet) and a few of the shorter ones. As for editing them, I bring my laptop with me and have been able to edit while trekking, though that too can be sporadic due to lack of power in some places, being exhausted, etc. I currently have a huge backlog of video footage to edit.
What cell service do you use when traveling in nepal? I have been looking around and I can't find a good company to use that isn't crazy expensive. TIA.

Breath-taking scenery and you worked hard for it! Thanks for sharing it with us. Good luck with the circuit trek, I did it a few years back and really enjoyed the smaller villages and contact with local Nepalis.
This is amazing! Thank you for all the work you do to give us this experience.

Worth every second.
Sublime.
Sweet. Just wait for the videos from the Annapurna Circuit (that's where I'm trekking right now), they're waaaaay more epic. :) Going to take a little while to finish those ones though.
I just love the descriptions you use that I can relate to. "It's right about there - somewhere." Nice.
Gorgeous Himalayan mountains views
When I see beauty like that, I am just absolutely dumbfounded.
Wow !!! Just an amazing view of Annapurna Base Camp. Trekking here one day is definitely one of my future plan.
The only word that comes to mind is: magestic! I am so doing this..
I love your videos, your someone who has inspired me to become a world traveler. I can't thank you enough for that video. It was a spiritual experience just watching it. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually be there.
Sweet, glad to hear it, that's kind of what I was going for. My videos of the trek I'm on now are going to be even more awesome, but it's going to be a while before I get them posted.

does someone shoot the video of you walking away from the camera or do you just set up a tripod and walk back to retrieve it? 🤔
I set the camera down myself, walk past it, then go back and pick it up again.

Amazing location Gabe ,how far away is Everest from your hiking trek location
Everest is a long ways to the east, maybe a couple hundred miles.

welcome back to RUclips Gabriel ;-)
Thanks, it's been a few days as I've been trekking again. I have four more videos all finished and ready to go, I just don't want to post them all at once. So it might be a few more days before I have internet again.
+Gabriel Traveler You can upload when you have internet and schedule the publishing. So youtube will publish them as and when you scheduled it..
arul +1
Super Man
Great🙋🏻👀👍
13:45 awesome
Gabe, I'm curious to know. What's it like going back to and reaching Annapurna Base Camp again 8 years after your first visit there?
Definitely hard to describe. Totally different experience. Very cool to revisit.
omg amazing
Hello amazing Post.
what month were you there ? you seem to have hit some great weather, clear skies and it doesn't appear too cold
I was there April/May, definitely a good time to be there.
13:15 When did that glacier disappear?
hey man would you ever consider traveling to west africa to places such as Mauritania. I heard its meant to be an amazing and inspirational country
Hmm, I don't know anything about Mauritania but sounds interesting. I'm considering going to Morocco on this trip, not sure yet.
Awesome😍😍
Looks amazing. Which one is the most dangerous mountain? Annapurna 1 or Annapurna south? Enjoy and have fun in my country :).

Hi, thanks a lot. I do actually have a Patreon account here:

Brilliant - Where are you taking us next? :o)
The Annapurna Circuit which is another trek in the Himalayas even more amazing than this one.
+Gabriel Traveler Great - I'm really looking forward to seeing the videos. Take care and stay safe Gabriel!
Gabriel, how and where do you edit these? Do you have internet up in the Himalayas?

T-Mobile, not cheap but they have the best international coverage.
